This is my power song. This song is a song that helped me at the beginning of my sobriety. Whenever I am feeling beaten down by work, life, my mental well-being, and those that try to supress and erase those of us who are marginalized, I listen to this. Whenever I start feeling my anxiety getting bad again, I listen to this. It reminds me of all that I have fought for and the distance I have gone to get to the point I am at in my life. We still have a long fight ahead of us, but this song is a reminder that we will not be beaten down.

I am a 36 year old Mom to a 1 year old girl who is fighting cancer right now. This song is everything to me right now. Everything. We have been through a living hell fighting this thing with the most aggressive treatments and surgeries and I hold onto this song as a source of strength. It helps me when nothing else does. I'm waiting for brain surgery to remove a 3 cm cystic mass in my right cerebellum right now in the hospital.
I will take singing lessons and I will sing this song for my family when I get through my brain operation. I will Rise from this.

You really don't understand the concept of a vocal minority, do you? There is no single consciousness on the internet, no general consensus of anything. Instead what you get is one group saying they hate X but love Y then another group that says they hate Y but love X. You're always going to find people that don't like something about whatever is put out there and they're always going to be loud about it, that's how the internet works. "I don't get it, people say they want one thing then when they finally get it they say they want something else". Because it's not a singular opinion, you're picking out the negatives given by different people with different thoughts and tastes. For me the video and the song symbolise a fight against a mental disease, like depression, anxiety, ocd, etc. She is the person, and the parachute is the disease. She's constantly trying to fight it, trying to go her own way, dragging it her way. But the parachute/disease doesn't let her. She keeps trying, but most of the time she falls down and goes back to the beggining. There's even one scene where she's just hanging and doesn't know how to move on from there. And then water comes, which is like hitting rock bottom for her, but the lyrics say: "just fight it, just fight it, and be transformed". And suddently she gets out of the water, and she tries again, after all she's done, she keeps trying. And in the end she flies. She recovers. The parachute/disease is still there with her, and will always be, but she has learned how to survive with it and use it to be okay again.
(Plus in the end the parachute falls down, so maybe she even got to live without the disease and fully recovered.)
But this is just what it means to me, just my theory. If you have a different one I would love to read it ♥
