This is exactly how criticism must be conveyed to trainees/students in a non rude but straightforward and practical way.

I don't think enough people realize how big of a deal Mamamoo's success is. Hundreds of groups debut every year from small independent companies, most of which we never even get to hear of. Imagine being one of those groups and then fighting your way all up to the top. The fact that they fit none of the standards only made it harder. It's hard to even comprehend what that journey must have been like. Huge respect to these four wonder women!

Honestly her criticism and tips weren’t even bad. Purple Kiss will be RBWs first girl group in 6/7 years since Mamamoo and with rookie girl groups nowadays, they’ve got to bring something to the table other than visuals and talent. Solar being not only their label senior but a senior in the industry has been there and seen it so she’s really preparing them and that’s very commendable. Yeah it’s nice to hear praise but netizens are gonna be even more harsh than Solar. It’s nice to see her have that senior/junior relationship with Purple Kiss.

She sincerely cares for her juniors and she didn't want them to go through what they did before.

I actually really like how Solar gave her feedback, because she was practical about it.
Unlike many judges in these shows, she wasn't rude or heartless at all. She actually explained how her suggestions would help them (practicing singing for confidence, dancing to look even better, etc)
Plus, while confidence is important, empty praise isn't going to help them. Especially knowing how difficult the competition is in kpop.
But of course people can't stand a woman giving serious feedback lol🙄

I’m surprised and hurt by the approach for “comedy” with editing in this show. Portraying Solar honest talk like a boring and annoying conversation to bleed the trainees ears was very disrespectful, I hate it.

Solar : makes it more comfortable with the girls, tries to show them that even though she's a judge, she does understand their problems and that it's hard for them. But that, they have to practice and become better no matter how hard it is and gives valuable lessons and even tells about her own experiences which makes it more relatable.
Editors : let's edit it in such a way that solar is boring the trainees out and just make it all funny and just throw the serious and heartwarming aspect out.

She is right. They need to be able to stand out. Great feedback. Not like the men rubber stamping the mistakes. She is trying to help them understand her experiences. What I love about all the members is that they are unique. That is the draw for me.

I mean like it or not, Mamamoo literally BUILT RBW from the ground up. Without their hardwork, perseverance and tenacity there would be no Onewe, Oneus, Vromance, or Purple Kiss. Just pure facts.

Honestly I don't think Solar was being cold-blooded during the evaluation. She was frank, honest and objective in her judging, but not mean or cruel. She used her experience to help them, and this advice will be valuable to Purple Kiss in the future.

When Purple Kiss becomes a huge success they’re going to look back on this moment and say Solar was right. They’re also going to say thank you Solar-unnie for everything.

I like that she didn't just praise them and say they got better, she actually gave them constructive criticism they could go back, think about and work on. Yes, it's good for their confidence and self-esteem to encourage them or to say nice things, but at the end of the day they're going into a cut-throat industry where it's not enough to be good, you need to be show-stopping! That's something that Solar understands all too well, this is her way of preparing them for all of that. It may seem a little harsh to other people, but she's doing this as a senior observing, critiquing and looking out for her juniors. It's better to get this criticism from someone they trust who is in the industry and probably heard it all before rather than from the public when they debut who will be 1000% more critical, especially since they're debuting from the same company as Mamamoo! I hope the girls do well, FIGHTING!!

These kids are supposed to debut in a few days in a competitive af industry where everyone monitors every moves and the comments are ruthless. Solars tryna guide them thru this, her being a industry senior every advice is helpful to the girls. I can't believe this evil editing it's so annoying.

Sometimes you’ll need a constructive criticism for you to be able to grow and not a sugar coated lie that can comfort you to the point that you’re reassured from ur talent.
Solar just gave a criticism from a unique idol group perspective for them to be unique and not just an ordinary idol group who’s just a copy cat of every other groups as well.
She want them to become an artist to enjoy the stage, Not just a performer who only stick to their routine.

To be honest, Solar's feedback was spot on.
The competition amongst the groups these days is on a different level as there are many of them that are extremely talented to an extent just being associated with a company or famous group isn't enough.

I tear up everytime MAMAMOO talks about the way people spoke about them before their debut. But MAMAMOO really showed the industry that their prejudice does not matter.

Overall, I think Solar was just looking out for her juniors. She knows what she and her group went through. And she's trying to teach what she learned to her juniors.

I teared up slightly hearing that Mamamoo was told straight to their face that they would be a failure. It's literally so funny because 6 years into their careers, they have absolutely reinvented what it means to be a girl group in the K-pop industry - their charms, unabashed personality, KILLER skills (easily at the top of their game).
I was never interested in girl groups before, bc the girly concepts really didn't stick with me. But Mamamoo is my first GG I can say I'm a 1000% a fan of!!! So proud to watch them break barriers again and again 💕🥳 Major love from SG!

I discovered Mamamoo because of Solar's We Got Married. I fell in love with her personality in her very first episode. Then I checked her group. Then I immediately fell in love with their songs, voices, visuals, and especially their personalities.

All trainees need a realistic mentor...and that's how Solar is a perfect leader for MAMAMOO because she's realistic, practical & very driven.

This making me recalled old days that time mamamoo aren't popular, as a old moomoo, Mamamoo have been through so many things. 😭 And my job that time keep promoting them to my kpop friends and all in social media. Now I get why Purple Kiss has that different aura unlike other rookies. This is what Solar meant to be an aura like Mamamoo, they're different than the others. I'm happy they ended up really good.

Honestly Solar’s feedback is the nicest constructive criticism anyone can get. In the real world, trainees get treated much more harsher and the evaluators will say things that can make anyone cry.
I applaud Solar for being 100% honest with the girls and telling them what they need to work on. I hate how the show is lowkey trying to portray Solar as a mean person who points out the mistakes. If she is there to evaluate and judge then let her do her job. She is a professional as she has been in the Kpop industry for years. She knows what she’s doing and she’s there to give advice.

These girls should listen to Solar. She is the living proof of hardwork over talent. Especially when she belonged in a group of highly talented people.
At first, she wasnt the best dancer in MAMAMOO but now she dances passionately and gracefully. And at singing, a vocal coach said that solar is the kind of singer that practiced very hard to achieve in her level today.

In some ways, mamamoo and bts have really similar debut stories. They came from small companies, had only their ceo, family and staff who believed in and supported them. Others were so sure they wouldn't make it. But they defied all odds. They made it.

I love how Solar as a leader is not sugar coating anything!! She knows what it takes to be different and stand out in the industry. Mamamoo has the best vocals out of any girl group that I've seen. Even though they do not dance like other groups, fans can see that Mamamoo is truly talented. Always eating their CDs. Im excited to see this new group debut!

I really hope they will always remember Solar's advice. The 4th gen girl group game is soo competitive. The market is incredibly saturated, and guess what? Everyone can dance, everyone can sing. They HAVE to be different to stand out. Unlike GG from the big 3 there is no instant success. You can have talent but you have to really show it. Mamamoo's story is just incredible, they had ZERO resources. They sold only sold 100 copies of their debut album in the first week. They had no marketing hype, no stylist, makeup artists, choreographers. They had virtually nothing but talent. Purple Kiss is extremely lucky to have humble, seasoned professionals like Mamamoo to guide them.

However, I love this clip from Solar and the beginning was funny. As a professionally trained artist, getting real, honest feedback is perhaps the best feedback you can get. The best critiques I got in school were the harshest. Praise does little, because you come away with nothing to think about. Critique exists so that colleagues can honestly and directly give you their thoughts about your work. If I had critiqued any of my colleagues’ work the way the men did here, I would have been prompted to say something else - “I like it and you have improved” is not a good crit. Solar is giving not only a general review of the group, but member-specific responses as well as advice going forward, which is constructive and actually helpful.

This is the first time I'm watching any mamamoo content, even though I've always heard of them before. I must say, I'm so impressed with how solar gave her opinions. I feel that receiving fair and honest criticism is very important for one to succeed. It's not good to receive praises always, neither is it good to receive harsh criticism all the time. But one must know what their strengths and weaknesses are.

I love Solar. What she said has weight ‘cause she’s been in their shoes before. She just wants them to be better that’s why she said all those things. Empty praises don’t help in improvement. If you want to be the best and be noticed in the industry, then you have to work hard for it.

I understand they will make their debut soon and that's why staff is sweet talking with them but I like how Solar is making sure each member knows what they need to focus more to improve. I always thought Moonbyul was the leader of MAMAMOO and it was later that I knew it was Solar. Idk but Moonbyul gave me the leader vibes. But this has totally changed my mind. The way she is honest in her feedbacks, checks details, delivery of the right words and not hurting anyone with the criticism they have to go through is what a leader MUST do. She has got the leadership qualities.

I am rewatching this to see Purple Kiss but literally cried because so happy that Mamamoo didn't give up so we have such an amazing group now.

I actually got to know them when they appeared together with GFRIEND in a show several years back, and to this day I cannot help but be amazed at both their artistry as well as personalities.

It was great for Solar to sit down and talk to these trainees alone. It gave them time to get critical advise from someone who has been in the business for many years. I love Mamamoo and yes I am also a Moomoo here in the Philippines. It's not because they where pretty or anything like that. But they have the talent that would make you fall in-love with them over and over again. They have raw unadulterated talent that cannot be matched by any groups. They are witty with their adlibs and I haven't seen any other K-Pop Idol groups capable of doing this.
That is the problem with the Korean Entertainment Industry now days. They think that us fans want the usual pretty idol look all the time. But in actuality, with the pure talent that would make you love an idol all the more. Here in the Philippines we do have famous singers that became internationally known not because of their looks, but with their amazing talent. It's this that even after their prime people still adore them.
I believe that this will also happen to Mamamoo. Although they already have started to have their own singles and had done solo concerts, we MooMoos will continue to love and support them as a group. If you imagine, this is the only K-Pop group that I have seen that even gets very close with their fans during fan signing events and even during musical shows or any other show that they are in. Their schedule is jam packed and I see that they continue to do this even before the start of this stupid pandemic. That shows that they truly do love and adore their fans. They are also a K-Pop group that I have heard and seen with perfect harmonizing. As a musician myself (I play the violin and viola for 36 years now) my ears are very keen with even the slightest error when it comes to being flat on a note or within a harmony. I have never heard Mamamoo done such mistakes and I am very proud and adore Mamamoo, especially Solar.
Mamamoo, thank you for giving me hope through your music and talent. Thank you that during my loneliest days of my life, I just have to listen to your songs and watch your MVs and even just watch you being silly in several KRplus videos and it brings a smile to my face. I will also continue to support even your solo singles. Hwasa, I love your feat with Loco and I enjoyed it very much so. I will continue to pray and even hope that Mamamoo will be Mamamoo for years to come.
