Pity sotita mum..coming all the way to korea and end up treated like a servant by the in laws. Very suprised to see her in the kitchen doing dishes for the restaurant and crouching over due to exhaustion on the kitchen floor. Although I’m disappointed at the Husband for not sticking up for the wife I’m also sad that she’s treating her mother like that:( she’s trying so hard to gain the favour of her in law that she’s forgetting about her mum. I feel sorry for the wife and her mom, her in laws are deliberately making it difficult - bear in mind this is on screen, meaning the in-laws likely have tone it down because of camera. This is very common for asian setting, it is commonly observed in Chinese and Korean family settings. Not applicable to everyone but it is fairly common. On the bright side, we have to thank shows like my neighbour charles to better inform koreans of areas that need improving.

Oh noooo...I also married into an Asian family and my mother in law loves me, but is very opinionated. (She usually gets jealous for little things like when my husband brings me food super late at night lol). When she starts complaining about him treating me better he defends me and always takes my side. I don’t say anything because of the language barrier and out of respect to my husbands mother. I think that’s why my husband defends me...because I always tell him to understand his mom rather than pinning him against her. I feel bad this woman.

My mom used to get somewhat a same treatment from my grandmother but as time pass , my grandmother liked her my mom more and she said sorry to her for treating her badly on her deathbed ..Treating her badly in a sense that she urges my mom to be responsible and stuff n take the whole family burden on her

It really depends upon the individuals in any given situation. When a woman is pregnant, everyone in both families should be making allowances for her, especially her husband. She's already in a stressful situation being pregnant so she needs to be catered to. The last thing she needs is more stress. And even after having the child, more stress comes. Then she needs lots of support both physically and emotionally to get through it.

The husband and his family definitely need to be respectful to Sotita and her mother if he decided to take this responsibility.
