In 2019, my cat TT was diagnosed with feline kidney disease.
When cats develop kidney disease, their kidneys are no longer able to function properly, leading them to waste away until they die.
There is currently no known cure for feline kidney disease. That’s why I’ve spent the past few years painstakingly giving TT medication on a daily basis. These medications aren’t even meant to help her get better - at most, they just keep her disease from getting worse.
Obviously, TT wasn’t a fan of having to take her medication every day. Maybe that’s why she’s lost a lot of energy and motivation over the years.
However, last autumn, I learned about a lab in Japan that was working on a cure for kidney disease. I made a trip to the lab to see if I could find a way to help TT, and found hope for her future.
Now, TT and I are planning on making a trip to Japan to participate in the drug trials. I want to make sure she can participate before she gets any older, or before her condition deteriorates.
I know it’s not going to be easy. She’s a house cat, after all, and house cats aren’t big on long-distance trips. Even so, I have to try.
I hope that the end of this adventure can bring hope to not just TT and I, but all cats and cat caretakers around the world who are also suffering like us.

감사합니다. 예전에는 수치가 한 번 훅 올라가면 계속 올라가기만 했다고 해요. 죽음을 기다리듯. 하지만 이제 잠시 멈출 수 있는 방법을 찾았고 더 나아가서 나을 수 있는 방법까지 찾게 되기를 바라고 있어요. 오래 사는 것을 바라는 것이 아니라 함께 하는 시간 동안은 건강하고 행복하기를 깊이 깊이 바라고 있습니다.

이렇게 다그닥다그닥 뛰어나온 건 처음이라서 마음이 짠했어요. 야옹이의 시간은 너무나 빠르게 흘러가네요.
절 랜선집사로 인도해준게 크집사님이었어요.. 작은 집에서 작은 고양이들과 요리하고 발톱깍고.. 그게 벌써 5,6년은 된것같은데.. 시간이 지난걸 아이들을 보면 알겠더라구요..너무 빠른 아이들의 시간이지만 진짜 진짜 기도합니다 그시간이 오래이길
I am still amazed at how Claire is at least trilingual, if not more! Her Japanese is fluent and her English is pretty damn good too, though she has less confidence in it it feels like. She is so smart and talented!

Thank you for your kind comment. All my talent came from the effort for TT. These days, I started learning Japanese again because the biology and pharmacology words are so difficult for me. haha. I think TT is making me a better person.

고양이 스무살도 성공했다고 하는데도 서른살까지라니..! 상상만으로도 가슴이 두근거렸어요. 영상을 보면서 다양한 생각이 들었어요.. 그리고 언니는 정말 대단하다는 생각이 들었어요. 티티를 사랑하는 마음으로 직접 연구자분들을 만나고 한국에서 함께 약에 대해 연구하고. 생각하는 것까지와 실행하기까지는 엄청난 에너지의 차이가 필요하다고 생각해요. 언젠가 aim 이 한국에 들어오는 날이 온다면 그 날이 앞당겨진건 크언니의 공이 아주 클거라고 생각해요. 언니도 열냥이들도, 세상의 수많은 고양이들도 모두모두 건강하고 행복하길 바라요.

티티를 돌보면서 이 세상에는 참 많은 좋은 기술들이 나와 있다는 걸 알게 되었어요. 다만 그 멋진 기술들이 여러가지 이유로 고양이한테까지 돌아오지는 않는다는 것도 알게 되었고요. 다는 아니더라도 고양이에게도 조금 나눠 줄 수 있기를 기대하며 열심히 달리고 있어요. 희망을 현실로 만들기 위해서요!

I am so happy for the research that’s coming out to help cats live longer. Most cats die from kidney failure (including my brother’s beloved cat last month 😿), so this research is such a breakthrough.
I also got a kick out of the guy at the restaurant who was trying to impress you by speaking Korean. It was really sweet.

I think it’s every cat parent’s dearest wish to have their cat live happily with them for as long as possible. Thank you, Claire! I hope that this kind of treatment will be available for everyone’s kitties soon.

Claire really is a medicine resercher on her own, and it thanks to how she want to help, and love, to her cats, so she does a lot of reserching. She meets lots of people of different areas of society, and make friendships on her way. But by doing so, she also helps other people with cats, on the same state of her cats, and helps them as well.
TT thought it was another of their adventures, so she waited next to the door, but the best part is where she really missed Claire, that she dashed to the door. Those advrntures and the medicination really have helped her to become a stronger cat 😍

I used to have a very loving cat who meant everything to me. He died at 15 years old, of early kidney failure, and I was devastated.
While it is too late for him, Claire's updates about AIM project give me hope for other cats and their owners.

Thank you for continuing your fight. It's thanks to you and your research that I found out about AIM and started my two cats on the dry food. One is 8 years old and the other 5 and has a heart condition, so the med are hard on his kidneys. They've been eating it for the past 6 months and seem to be doing well. I'll know more when I take my heart kitty in for his checkup in December.
