The teacher did the quick bye because teachers know that prolonging it tends to stress the kid more. While as a mom, I knew it was hard on the parents, I also knew the kids usually feed off their parents emotions when they are upset.

And I think that spending it making something you could just buy, just to give them something special… I admire you so much.
