    Any discrepancies between the original myth and this interpretation can be easily explained with "Midas can't learn his lesson if the world is destroyed, so his gold touch only works on things the gods want it to work on."
    When you use science to analyze magic, it simply fights back with more magic.

      Yeah technically he would be coated in a very thin layer of gold constantly and all of his organs will also be coated in this thin layer constantly. This would happen because the air touching his skin would turn to gold. This means he’s constantly touching gold and can never turn anything else to gold.

    • @wren_.

      if midas’s power was to actually be feasible (through magic), it would need to follow a few rules:
      1. midas’s power only turns solid things to gold, no turning the entire atmosphere solid
      2. he can only turn things to hold with the tip of his pointer finger
      3. his power has a radius. something like 10 meters or so should be good
      4. midas doesn’t create new matter, he just moves existing atoms around and somehow doesn’t cause them to go nuclear. since we’re not turning an entire planet to gold, that weird spongey gold shouldn’t have a huge effect on anything.
      or you could just say it’s magic and not think too hard, your choice

    I would like to mention a few things. Fantastic video and excellent work. I'm a little surprised how the video never mentioned the possibility of the moon crashing down to Earth due to the shift in gravity and how it may affect its orbital pattern which can result into colliding with other planets, or even the Sun. Here's an interesting question, how much gold can the Earth contain before the mass of gold start affecting the Earth's gravity? If space voyages, travels, and excavation are a thing of the future, then to what extent can we haul things back to Earth before imported material affects the Earth's gravity and how much more before the Moon is affected by Earth's gravity? And on a reverse note, how much material we send into space do the same which causes reduced gravitational pulls and ultimately sending the moon hurling into the vastness of space?

    • @markinipannini
      @markinipannini 2 년 전 +18

      @yak B. because most stuff in our body is made from molecules, but when each atom turns into a gold atom the molecules fall apart releasing some energy and also gold atoms which are initially as close to each other as original atoms in the molecule were, are now much larger so they get violently pushed apart?
      I have no idea how they calculated what the energy of that explosion would be though...

    • @yakb.7690
      @yakb.7690 2 년 전 +13

      @@markinipannini I read up on it now and not quite.. its just that gold atoms are much much larger than most of the atoms in the duck (water, helium) so if each of them swells up there is suddenly much less space available between the atoms. Now GOld is naturally denser than water but gold atoms are so much larger that it becomes too dense even for gold. Thats what threw me off originally
