You don't realize how iconic it is that Lady Gaga and Beyonce have a song together until you get older
I knew it was iconic the _day_ the song came out. I was a young teen back then but had been a massive Gaga fan since Just Dance (still am today and almost 30).
Ever since she released her debuts, I always knew there was something special about her. Then... the day I saw she had collabed with Beyoncé, that's when I officially knew Gaga "had made it!"
Back then, there were a lot of one hit wonders (don't even get me started about the 90s lol 😅), and if you didn't prove yourself as 'more' that was all you were. I was soooo happy for gaga when she released this.
Likewise with "Videophone" with Beyoncé..

Gaga’s record company denied the idea and insist on using Applause as the lead single. So Gaga leaked Burka even before the album came out as a “F you”. Things got messy. The collaboration didn’t happen. Gaga changed Burka to Aura. In Burka, Gaga says “ I killed my boyfriend” referring to Paparazzi. In Aura Gaga says “I killed my former” referring to Burka.

I mean, she was collaborating with Beyoncé AND Tony Bennett. If that's not generational coverage, I don't know what is.
