This brings back memories. An older lady had a shop in town near my primary (elementary) school. One day I went in with my mom, saw her doing embroidery and said I wanted to learn. She said i could come learn from her each day after school until my mom finished work and stopped by to pick me up. So that's what i did in the evenings after after school- sat in her quiet shop and did stitches like these that she taught me. RIP Mrs. Rattigan!
Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks? I am 75-years-old and completed my first embroidery project (a dresser scarf with a day lily motif) at age 7. That means I've been embroidering for 68 years! When doing the fishbone stitch, I always started at the bottom of the leaf and worked my way up. I have to say that your method of starting at the top and working your way down looks as though it would give a more uniform appearance. I happen to be doing a project right now that requires that stitch and I'm going to switch to doing it your way, to see which I like best. I loved your video because you showed beginners a very nice variety of stitches and presented the lesson without a lot of unnecessary words to go along with the footage. I actually started out looking for a refresher course on the woven rose stitch because it's been years since I used it. I'm so glad I chose your tutorial to view! Thank you for an excellent lesson! I'm off to play with my needle and floss now!
@@lilmiss_jean Thank you, Jean! I believe if you are going to do something, do it with passion, no matter what it is! BTW...I love doing the fishbone stitch from the top down. Thank you, again!!!

My mother taught me a few basic stitches when I was about 5-6 years old back in the early 1960's to keep my hands busy and keep me "quiet". The days before TV programs during the day. Only test patterns until the nightly news. I wonder what mother's today would think about giving a 5-6-year-old actual needles and scissors? You learned quickly not to move around and to pay attention to your work, or you would stab your fingers. I did embroider a bit in the '70's with all the other hippies. Thank you for the refresher. I'm recently retired and now have time to pick up this hobby again. And I actually remembered the stitches you show here!

I've recently decided to start learning embroidery, after doing cross-stitch for about 15 years and crochet for 7. I bought a beginner's embroidery kit with all the basics I need and a book that explains the stitches, but I was having some trouble understanding how to make the knots, and the stem stitch didn't make much sense either. This video is exactly what I needed to figure them all out - easy to follow and straight to the point. Thank you!
Thank you so much! I’m starting off new to this, what a work of art and I can’t wait. My first project is going to be beautiful flowers on an apron for myself!

Thank you so much for this. I used to embroider quite a bit when I was younger and I recently wanted to get back into it. This video has been immensely helpful and is much appreciated x
Thank you so much! This was incredibly informative! it was much easier for me to understand than if someone just tried to explain verbally. The calming music and the names were incredibly helpful so thank you so much for putting in the time and thought to do this video!
pretty much every embroidery thread i’ve ever used was six strands, for these you pull the embroidery thread apart so they’re three strands ! ik different stitches can use different amounts of thread strands but all of these can be done with three i think. i hope this helps !
Thank you for this video. I decided to try my hand at embroidery and seeing you do the stitches here has helped me understand better how some of the patterns I've seen come together. Especially the more 3D looking ones. I'm still going to start out with the printed screens beginners kits, but, this gives me hope for the future that I am shooting for.

For the rose you must know this: Don't pull the string tightly, just leave it around the circle without tightening, because it wont work if you tighten it!
I’m getting into embroidery and am thinking about turning it into a business, and this video is very helpful! I’m bookmarking this for future use. Thank you!!
I’m in a similar position here! More with making clothing than embroidery, but for a piece I’m making I needed to embroider one part. Good luck to you on your (potential) business!
So I'm a 21 year old dude, who sews my work pants back together when I rip them, because I'm cheap. And I am actually enjoying it, so arbitrarily I wanted to learn to embroider. I have no idea what I'm going to embroider, or on what, but here I am.

👋😊Buen día, gracias Let's Explore a practicar las puntadas se a dicho.

Just wow, you are so good at this skill. Seeing this I feel relax.
I watched this video through, then went out and bought some supplies, and I just finished all the stitches in this tutorial. I liked how there was a nice variety of stitches, some more challenging than others. And no unnecessary chitchat! Then you for posting this video. I'll be practicing more tomorrow.

Thank you so much for this. I used to embroider quite a bit when I was younger and I recently wanted to get back into it. This video has been immensely helpful and is much appreciated x
You are so welcome!😊
Thank you so much! This was incredibly informative! it was much easier for me to understand than if someone just tried to explain verbally. The calming music and the names were incredibly helpful so thank you so much for putting in the time and thought to do this video!
Hi, newbie here! How many strands of thread did you use? Do different stitches work better with more strands? Thank you, this was very informative!
Keen to know the answer to this too!
pretty much every embroidery thread i’ve ever used was six strands, for these you pull the embroidery thread apart so they’re three strands ! ik different stitches can use different amounts of thread strands but all of these can be done with three i think. i hope this helps !
This was so incredibly relaxing to watch! Thank you. I was having a hard time reading and comprehending from my instructions! ❤
Wow! Best video I've ever seen for teaching a good variety of stitches in such a short amount of time! Being able to refer back to this will be invaluable. Thank you so much.🙂
This reminds me of my grandma. Used to watch her embroider all the time. I still use the blanket she embroidered me. Miss her a lot. Thank you for this. I wanted to learn from her but life's got different plans. I might as well learn it from you. 💕
Thank you so much for this video. Brought back memories of my mother doing embroidery when I was a kid... Back in the 80s. .. nostalgic.
Thank you for this informative and straight forward video.
I've just begun my first embroidery last night and this short video might very help me know what I'm doing, Thank you for your time and effort. :)
Thank you for your tutorial!
I enjoyed watching this immensely. When I was a little girl, my Mother used to do embroidery. I was drawn to crocheting. after watching you embroider,, I'm going to start a new craft! thank you 😊
Thanks a lot, i made my first piece with only this video, really helpful

Watching this is better than a tranquilizer. I told my daughter if she ever wakes up in the middle of the night with anxiety to watch this video, it'll calm her right down. I actually shared it with her on messenger so that she could have it available if she needs it .

Thank you for this lesson. I cant wait to get started now on my new hobby x
For the rose you must know this:
Don't pull the string tightly, just leave it around the circle without tightening, because it wont work if you tighten it!
Thank you for the important tip!
Lindo demais! Gratidão 🙏☺️

So lovely to have watched this - I think I know now what hobby I would like to start
Oh wow! Now I can finally embroider names and stuff on the little things I give to my family members!
