An Honest Review of The Sims 4: Werewolves

if you told me a year ago that simsie would like a werewolf pack over a wedding pack, id call you crazy

The second this pack was announced I started planning out a humble little Werewolf married to a Vampire living in Henford-on-Bagley and struggling to raise their adopted spell caster child family

I was initally in love with the idea of mermaids. They all looked so pretty but seeing how fleshed out the other occult sims are, I'm hoping if ever they did a pack refresh for Island Living, they'd give the mermaids an Atlantis-like secret world or something similar.

I think my biggest issue is that the werewolves look too much like humanoid dogs. I personally would have preferred a more monstrous look. Customization is cool, though.

I feel like this is a good sign, that werewolves is a better pack than vampires. I feel like for so long, vampires has been the standard for a game pack and for occults, and it’s one of the earliest ones, so was kind of a shame that nothing lived up to it. I’m so glad that we have werewolves, because each pack SHOULD be better than the last one.

Kayak if you add a werewolf to your occult bowling league, make it share a room with the cat because they are both human/animals lol😄

I love that to this day the whole sims community, even the gurus, call James by his full name. “James Turner formerly know as The Sims Supply” 😂

I hope that now this pack exists, EA will do a revision of Vampires like they did with Spa Day. (and eventually revise mermaids and aliens too!) But I feel like compared to modern day game packs, the vampire pack is TINY. The furniture the pack has is amazing, but it's far less than a lot of newer game packs come with. Same with clothes. I'd also love to see that suspicious boarded up bat cave be turned into something, like a hidden world, or some secret vampire coven or something like that. Just add more lore to vampires. Like others have said tho, it IS a good sign that werewolves is so much better than vampires. Shows that the sims4 actually wanted to improve, which is great.

The most interesting thing about mermaids is that they dry out near fireplaces

I really want them to update mermaids like how they updated spa day and stuff. mermaids deserve so much more. Like a secret world only mermaids can access like they have for spellcasters would be so incredible

I think they realized how much the players loved so much the lore in Cottage Living and decided to build on that. The storyline, backstory, lore, everything. That is something that we love!

Honestly I paid $10 for my first pet stuff so $20 for werewolves is a fair price.

On the body scars, I think it also could open the door for things like stretch marks and c section scars! It would also be cool if those were auto/randomly added to sims once they experience pregnancy and after they give birth.

It would be cool if they added covens for the spellcasters and packs for vamps. Also the vampire world does need help. They should Amp it up like the spa pack. More gameplay would get me more interested in the vampire occult

My pack refresh wishlist:
1) Dine out (for obvious reasons)
2) Island Living (mermaids need more to them)
3) My first pet stuff (needs more build/buy. More small animals)
4) Vampires (Add more to the world)

I was SO disappointed with the mermaids when I bought Island Living. I love mermaids and they were such a nothing occult in this game, even though they FELT like they should have a skill tree. I personally think they rushed the Sulani pack, like Mua Pel’am feels half-finished compared to the other 2 islands and also why is there no wall art for that pack? Not a single poster or painting? But werewolves and vampires get so many and even spellcasters had enough. It really feels like they put all their effort into the beach and swimming and then rushed out the rest of the pack to hit their release window.

ahhh im so excited. i have a household in my game called "Peculiar Orphanage" run by a strict older human woman named P. Sigrid Peculiar who cannot have any children of her own, so takes in orphaned occult children: vampires, spellcasters, aliens, and mermaids. Two of the teens (vampire & alien) just aged up to young adults, so now I'll have room for a werewolf kid!

Honestly, my favourite part of the pack isn't even the wolf's. It's the world. It gives me such a life is strange vibe (especially before the storm when chloe goes to the lumber mill to party) I'm so excited to get this pack one day!!

5:22 ngl when you said the scars thing, the first thing that came to mind was that it would be cool if they let you get zuko's scar, like a burnt eye lol

Hey Kayla try the “Stand still mod” it allows your sims not just occults to stand completely still and straight in CAS…you should try it ❗️

The way Kayla goes “greg lives here” all nonchalant after all the intense demands for greg related answers

You know what would be cool- if they added that same skin customization paint tool system just for regular human skin so people could make vitiligo on their own sims

Another piece of mermaids I would love to see updated is the tails. There are so few tail options but imagine if we could paint them completely.

So, I hear a lot of negatives about the old packs. Which is fine, however, this just means that the sims team is not only improving but LISTENING to simmers. Those packs are old, swings in the dark. Vampires was the first of its kind, it had the skill tree. Building block one. Then spellcaster which, other than the crazy houses and bad buildings, had the magic realm to explore. And now werewolves, which pulled in the storyplay from cottage living, one of the best expansions we've gotten in my opinion, as well as all the next blocks from the other occult. I was so nervous after Wedding Stories. That felt like a massive step down for Sims 4 in general. But I'm hoping for the best for Werewolves, I can't wait.

As someone who has stretch marks it would be cool to see different stretch mark swatches added in the body scar category :)

I can’t wait for modders to turn werwolf paint mode into a better tattoo/scar/birthmark system!!! It’s something I’ve wanted for so long and def possible now

My mom (who is also an avid Simmer, but not really in the online community) knows how much I love occult Sims, and saw how excited I was for werewolves, so she preordered the pack for me as a birthday present (though I wouldn't actually be able to play it on my birthday which was the 9th). At first I was really excited about it, but then I remembered how broken My Wedding Stories was and got super nervous because I didn't want my mom to have wasted her money on a broken pack or to have kinda my one birthday present be disappointing. But after the guru's Livestream and the early access reviews I'm seeing, my excitement is back and I can't wait for tomorrow!

I wanna see how she reacts to werewolves in her gameplay cuz I’ve seen her delete a lot of vampires who approach her sims 😂

After being able to select your hemisphere in Animal Crossing, I find it interesting the mismatched moon phases on build items and the calendar. It would have been neat if half of the worlds became Southern Hemisphere so you could have opposite seasons in game play. Full and new moons would still be synced just waxing and waning would be reversed.

When the person who doesn’t even really enjoy occults that much recommends the pack that makes me really excited. I adore occults and have wanted werewolves forever. (: I can’t wait to play tomorrow!

I remember voting for a werewolf pack and being so disappointed when i saw they chose to do Star Wars instead- now my only gripe is the way the werewolves look (i personally like them looking more scary) however i’m sure there’s people who are happy with how they turned out. Either way, i’m totally going to get this pack, just gotta get the Sims 4 on my new computer lol.

Replay value of this pack is insane. Lore galore! There are collectibles that have lore associated with them. The fact that you can reread the books for new nuggets of information is so cool. And apparently the baby wolf sims will howl when they cry??? Saw a clip on twitter and it was so adorable. I will have to test it myself. Overall best occult pack, and one the better game packs in general.

I like occult parts of Sims, because they change the game for me from just a random life to fantasy. Werewolves has been something I enjoyed the most, and since they start to look more like wolves and not some harry angry sims it's a plus for me. So, yeah, I'll get it.

i was really on the fence about this pack, but it definitely seems like the sims team put a lot of love and time into it. i love vampires personally, but this feels like a huge step up from them in quality and replayability. very impressed!

Fun fact: Surname “Volkov” literally means “wolf” in Russian. Love this detail.

I get they tried to make the werewolves more like wolfmen, but I personally love the more wolf like werewolves

I really wanna see that painting feature for humans too, custom freckles and moles and body paint would be so nice.

I’m so excited- I’ll probably would’ve bought it even without any gamechanger reviews because of what I’ve seen from the developers so far. AND this pack is just to my taste aesthetic wise, I wasn’t even very into werewolves until I saw the complete vibe of the pack lmao.

I feel like the other occults could do with a refresh after this pack to build on the lore about them that was included but also just to improve the worlds like they should get simmers in to redo the lots at least

Ok but we should talk about the furniture- I absolutely LOVE the broken down (but most importantly, lived in) look, from the book under the table to patched up blankets I think I would personally use the items in this pack for rags to riches or similar challenges ALOT

I'd love to see them do a vampire refresh while they are working on all this occult lore, and honestly all of the occults could use a refresh to match this

I really really want the sims team to refresh vampires. I loveeee the idea of vampires much more than werewolves but it's so obvious how little there really is in the vampires pack when you compare it to this new one. And because the main issue is that its OLD, maybe a refresh will do it justice 🤞

I love vampires and always will. The CAS and Furniture and just everything about it was so appealing to me. I do hope they go back to it and add more because I genuinely believe its one of the best.

I know the vampires pack might not be the best when compared to this but I honestly kinda want to buy it along with the werewolf pack just so that I can make a vampire werewolf enemies to lovers.

I'm freaking ECSTATIC about this pack coming out! I like Occult sims (even though I don't have all the Occult sim packs) and I think they are fun breaths of fresh air against the "normality" of normal Sims.

I wish I had more time for playing Sims, I need werewolves in my life 😭

I was holding off from getting this pack, even though werewolves are one of my favourite occults, if not my absolute favourite. The werewolves looked very off to me but knowing that we have a lot of customisation I can make them appear scarier! :D

What Kayla said about StrangerVille is SO true. I played through the whole story 1 time after I bought the pack and I have never done it again. I have tried to have some other sims live on lots in the town but I always moved them or just stopped playing because the crazy sims got really annoying. I wanna live there without having freaky sims walking around my front yard and randomly having it happen to my sims when I am trying to play a storyline.

They should update the vampire and spellcaster packs because there is just so much missing from them

They have such a compact head, making them so incredible catlike…
Canines have elongated skulls…they were just too lazy to adjust the eating animations, so they would fit the wolves.
Absolutely catastrophic!

I love that you included the replayability of packs. Personally I often move my sims into Stranger Ville just because I think its such a beautiful world

lol I want to buy this pack definitely. It seems so awesome. I've always enjoyed like werewolves and shifters kind of fantasy world so definitely want to make like Twilght wolf pack and Originals and Teenwolf characters and have them all live in my sims save. I feel like I'm not going to really remember to get thru the whole skills tree aspect there's just so much to it. but i definitely will move this one up higher on my "next to buy" list based on you and Kelsey's feedback. I think a cosmetology expansion pack would be so cool! Like so much gameplay, build mode, and cas objects would have to come with it! They could put a playable career as a cosmetologist (hairdresser, makeup artist, aesthetician, nail tech, etc.). They could also make a cosmetology school and complete a certain amount of hours. I think the school should be as long as it would take to get through a university year or semester or whatever. The point is that would be so cool and so fun! Maybe they could even make a new world with salons and the school and a sim version of cosmoprof and Sally’s beauty stores!

She is a great sales woman I don’t have the money to buy this pack but now I really want it 10 out of 10 salesmanship

So, with the tunnels, I would LOVE IT if you could get into the cave systems in Oasis Springs and that shortcut spot in Windenburg.

I have one werewolf sim causing chaos, and one trying to be peaceful.
The 2 I made are:
Rohan. He is literally just the embodiment of chaos, he randomly attacks other sims. I even got him to attack the Grim Reaper. He attacked Lilith twice, and the injured moodlet caused a vending machine to kill her. Lilith now continues to live in Wolfsbane Manor as a ghost containing a soda can.
Celia. She’s peaceful. Instead of all of her perks made to annoy everyone, she has the practical perks like immortality, hunting, and even diplomacy with Caleb Vatore! Yup, my first werewolf to gain sympathy did so with a vampire!
Also, after Rohan beat everyone up, my Spellcaster sim retaliated with Inferniate, lol.

I'm really excited for the Werewolves pack! As someone who was born with the condition hydrocephalus (water on the brain) and has had many surgeries because of that condition, so I have a lot of scars on my body. Most of those scars are actually on my chest and stomach, so I absolutely love that they're adding a body scar feature to the create-a-sim mode! 😀

Werewolves, spell casters and vampires are so well made. They absolutely should refresh and update aliens and mermaids bcs they are basically just normal sims that looks different

I hope the sims team continues to incorporate storylines and personality to towny sims, like they did in cottage living, it makes the world so much more personable

i like that you mentioned the difference between werewolves and different occults. i think recently there hasn't been consistency with what's in the packs that are coming out and it's getting hard to know what to expect? which is both good and bad because it seems like the team is seriously taking what the community wants into consideration but then we look at past packs and are like ????? hopefully we get a pack refresh though for the other occults! and other packs lol.

I'm most excited about all the broken/grungy stuff honestly haha I've spent SO much time looking for mods and stuff that look good w/ broken and damaged stuff. I just like making run down lots for some reason.

I'm a big fan of occult sims and can't wait to get it! Mermaids really got the short end of the stick but I feel like this is because they were only part of the expansion so they don't have a full game pack dedicated to them. This is sadly a big miss opportunity because they really could have lean into the Island spirits by making their legends be more entangled and maybe even a feud between the two. (Since the traits seem to be one of land and one of sea.)

I'm definitely into it. I was a big fan of Teen Wolf when that show was running and I have some Teen Wolf Sims I play with occasionally. Now that they can transform into werewolves, that's going to make their gameplay so much better!

So excited! I’ve been playing Sims since 2000 (yes, like Plumbella 😂) and I LOVED Sims 3 Supernatural. I love occult sims. I would regularly make households with one of each occult and had so much fun. My least favourite occult - werewolves. As you said, they were essentially just angry, hairy human sims. They were the only ones I didn’t care about. Although I was excited for more occults in Sims 4 when this was first teased, I wasn’t sure if I would have the same feeling as I did with them in S3. I’M SO EXCITED! I love that they actually look like wolves. And all of the detail, lore, and gameplay!! I can’t wait for tomorrow! Also weirdly hoping that they integrate it with the Cottage Living pack as it would be interesting to have to deal with your werewolf sim trying to attack their own chickens when fully turned. 😂🐥🌕

I pre-ordered it yesterday and I'm so excited to actually play it now, I also was a bit thrown off by how humanoid they looked on the cover but I figured it was like photo touch up or something 😅

I just want to say thanks for always being such a great ally to the trans community, it’s so refreshing how you incorporate us casually not only into your sims games but also in what you want for the sims, without trying to be a martyr. Top surgery scars would be awesome in the sims and i hope we get them soon!!

I see myself using the build items quite often, especially if I'm doing a rags to riches thing or just want to develop a complete scroungy looking neighborhood or just one lone scary house on the block of normal houses. You know, the one that's the eyesore that all the neighbors hate and brings down the property value. Love it! Thanks for the review and showing all the options.

This is really interesting. I'm looking at buying some packs/expansions and trying to rank the merits, and this was really helpful, both in terms of comparing Werewolves versus the Vampires and Realm of Magic packs, but also in rethinking packs that I had previously thought I'd want (Strangerville, Island Living) and packs that I had written off (Dine Out). It seems like it definitely has elements that I would enjoy that I would've overlooked just based on "It's werewolves." Thank you for the great analysis!

I haven’t actually played the sims myself in a hot minute, but I might need to to try this pack out. Definitely reassuring to hear your positive review, especially knowing your history with occult sims.

You and Plumbella's reviews so far have made me feel a little easier about this pack. I really, really want this pack, but I'm so afraid that EA will release it broken. It doesn't need to be perfect, it just needs to be fun and good. I'm hoping that's what it will be. I love the vampires and I want werewolves in my worlds.
