sane here, I think that a big difference between today's football and football 20 years ago is the lack of strong, prominent characters. this game is a perfect example, players such as Roy Keane and Patrick Viera are two big characters seen in this match. I don't mean that you have a strong character if you fight,(which they do in this match) but if you look at their careers they have something in common, they are both fierce and passionate leaders that are have a massive presense on the pitch.

Definitely there are very few teams in football history who could claim to have a captain being as good or better than Keane (I mean not as a player but as a captain, with his capability of pulling the entire team to victory, and making every player give his 110%...then of course, he was a super strong player as well). Definitely there are very few teams in football history who could claim to have a captain being as good or better than Keane (I mean not as a player but as a captain, with his capability of pulling the entire team to victory, and making every player give his 110%...then of course, he was a super strong player as well).
In the latest years my mind goes to Baresi, and I think Simeone could have been a top captain of Inter, but they decided to give the armband to Ronaldo instead.... Also Tony Adams was a great captain.
Still among all of them, to me Keane is The Captain..

It's crazy to think that the standard of these two sides since the late 90's is better than the level they are at now, considering this is nearly 25 years ago. Both united and Arsenal from this era would still be good enough to compete for the title now.

Seems like players actually fought a bit back then. And then some player discovered that if you fell down and over-dramatized your pain, your opponent could get a red card. And thus, was born, the diving/writhing in pain culture.
