- In a surprising twist of events, BMF champ Jorge Masvidal will fill in for Gilbert Burns and take on UFC welterweight champ Kamaru Usman in the main event of UFC 251 on Fight Island. Burns was removed from the fight card on Friday due to a positive test result for the coronavirus.
The implications of this arrangement are important. Masvidal was sitting out from fighting out of protest for what he considered insufficient fighter pay. UFC had matched his pay for his bout opposite Nate Diaz at UFC 244, but that was previously not enough. Did they meet all of Masvidal's demands?
This also changes the fight as Burns and Masvidal, while both well rounded, are not exactly the same kind of fighter.
And for Masvidal, this is a major opportunity to not only cash in on his relatively newfound fame, but achieve something in the sport that has long eluded him.

Usman was already prepping for the fight before it fell through. Usman training with Trevor Whitman who I think is top boxing heavy striking coach in the UFC. Usman is prepared. Jorge is the BMF striking is better. Wrestling defense is solid. This could be a barn burner. Later rounds I give it to Jorge...

Masvidal, if was in fact a clean athlete, he was competing during the peak era of PEDs. No surprise that it has taken him this long to get a title shot. Of course he has to make 170, it's a title fight but regardless him and his team have been saying he's not stopped training and he's been staying ready for a while.
Masvidal isnโt a big welterweight, id say while training heโs only about 180ish give or take.
He probably is walking around 180ishh I doubt heโs over weight or else he wouldnโt take the fight cause he would have to cut too much weight
If Jorge Masvidal can defeat Kamaru Usman on Saturday he will go down as one of the greatest complete MMA fighters ever to do it. A true legend, on mount Rushmore and all that good stuff, I'm sure he'll even come into GOAT discussion. If Usman wins he defends his title and begins his possibly long title reign but the significance it will have on the general MMA world doesn't even compare to the impact that it will cause with a Jorge Masvidal finish at UFC 251.
Thank God we get to see Masvidal fight for title this could be HUGE!
