In the programming world of racing we call it “catch-up”, obviously if it simulates an actual race, you’d get dusted 😂
Basically the cars you’re racing against use your position in the race as a type of tone setter. Should you find yourself in front of the pack, the pack will be moving at its near max potential. Should the opposite be true, the race will officially rely on a timer for it to be complete, otherwise the cars in lead slow down to near zero essentially allowing you to “catch up” (the closer you get the faster they become)
How’d you fly past like dat : due to the need of acceleration ( for the pack to reach your speed of approach), you wiz by as they all start to try & accelerate also so they “catch up”
Interesting... i remember this as the AI being "elastic" which makes sense too.
