If you had more room you could still have a functional NES system
Stick a raspberry pi in there and hack an hdmi through the back, and usb ports into the controller ports. don't forget to add a Bluetooth dongle inside for wireless controls and keyboard. Load a MAME system into the sd card along with a library of games. You can also connect a USB bluray drive and conceal it in the cartridge slot to load software that won't play from the sd card. find one that loads through a slot in the front, rather than a tray. Yes, I plan on doing this myself.

I actually have an arduino uno, a music shield, a proximity sensor, a multidigit seven segment display and was trying to think of a project to tie all of them together. Theme music upon music entry is genius. Thank you for this idea and the code necessary to do it! I'm going to try to do it on my own first but it will be nice as a reference :)
