    First time I'm commenting publically like this. But, I just think it's amazing that you're doing this. I'm a science and biology teacher (kiwi right here!) and I'm just a beginner teacher so I struggle with lesson planning and the documentation side of things. My school is also in a poorer community, so I have a lot of students who honestly believe they can never do an "academic/smart" subject like Science. A lot do not know the basics in Science which can be challenging. This video just reminded me to continue to let my passion drive me in class so my kids can see how much I enjoy science, then they know that they can too! While I wish I took physics in school, at least I can learn bits and pieces from you now! I think you would make amazing physics teacher, really wishing you the best on your teaching journey! :)

    Thank you so much for doing this! Back at my school b4 all this, we had a teacher with a similar background to you who loved his job and found a way to make myself and many of my friends fall in love with science. After completing his Chemistry class that was the last science class we ever had to take, we made the decision that we wanted to be his students for another year and so we excitedly signed up for his Physics class our junior year. It was the hardest and yet greatest class I've ever taken. I personally hated Vectors as I was always slightly off on my calculations, but I eventually got better. Now that its all over, I have a better appreciation for the things I see in life. I now know how rainbows work, the mirage where the road looks like water, mirror illusions, electricity, and sound. My new understanding of all this has made everyday life much more exciting and so i thank you for sharing that with the world here on KRplus!

    You know this is actually live when mark says at 10:02 that "Oil is heavier than water, and it goes to the bottom and the water 'sinks' up". Actually it's reverse i.e. Oil is less dense than water and therefore for a given amount of volume weighs less than water. (So when we mix oil and water, Oil floats and Water sinks).
    This actually shows what Mark said earlier that he has a fear of public speaking and all this makes me appreciate him more about the efforts he is taking to provide us some good science content during this corona crisis.

If you get to read this comment, i’d love to contact you sometime about college and career stuff. I’m an 11th grader in texas aspiring to do aerospace engineering/mechanical with aerospace emphasis at a major university (U of Ark, Georgia tech, etc.), and it’d be super cool to hear your thoughts on some decisions i have to make about my pedigree and future career options. I love physical science, especially the mechanical world of sound physics, and I think that you might understand the situation i have found myself in. Do you lose weight when you fart?
    Let’s break this down.
    What are farts?
    Well, farts are the gas that is produced when the bacteria in your colon breaks down food. So it is basically some of the food you have eaten in gas form.
    So when you fart, you are releasing matter in gas form, so technically you are losing weight *mass*, but the amount is so little that it might be almost impossible to measure the amount.
    *Correction*
    As Mark said in the new video, farts are less dense, so when you fart, your body becomes more dense, thus you weigh more.
    *Correction*
    I probably should have use the word mass instead of weight as weight is dependent on other outside factors.
    But I also did some googling, it turns out the fart's consistency depends entirely on what you have eaten and how much air you have swallowed.
    And so there isn't a definite answer to Do you lose "weight" when you fart, because sometimes, there might be more methane , while other times more of other gas.

    • @lucaswalters2181
      @lucaswalters2181 4 년 전 +21

      It's also not a permanent loss because your body turns around and make more gas when you eat more food. So it's kind of a trick question, because technically you do but you also don't at the same time

    • @ma9ici4n
      @ma9ici4n 4 년 전 +10

      Thats oversimplified. Most of the gases whe fart are BYproducts that get produced when we digest food. We do NOT fart our vaporized pizza from dinner straight out again.
      So essentially the question Mark was asking is if that byproduct gas is denser or less dense than air.
      If it was for example helium it would make the scale register us heavier.
      But if you think about it that doesn't matter. If we don't take buoyancy into account and focus on the actual mass, not the scale measurement, then no matter what you fart it will make you loose mass because all gases, even helium, weigh something.
      Edit: Most of the gas you fart is swallowed so you dont actually gain/loose any wheight from that. Other gases may be heavier/lighter.
