      Yeah sure he is. Were is the microwave prototype he stated in the video? This will only read the surface temperature of food. Another thing that will break in an overly expensive microwave? Check. This is just data mining to search of product evangelists. This is as useful as the solar panel, battery cooler. Sometimes simple works best especially since you can increase the quality of the device itself more expensive microwaves do microwave better.

      ***** like james p said, you can 'make it in this world' without STEM. A friend of mine doing scaffolding is extremely well off. Another friend in media (advertising) is well off too. There are still people going in to STEM degrees. But it's not necessary to succeed in this world, and it wouldn't be fair to say that to people who don't have the capabilities for STEM degrees.

      meh54321 james p No, you are right! I'm going to revise my OP. You just have to do what you love, not everyone has the mindset of being an IT specialist or engineer. Hell, my buddy Rahat on KRplus does this as his FULL TIME job. I guess living comfortable is the major goal and yes, a trade is an awesome route too. Thanks for the reality check.

      SkullSkillsSkates
      a) you can't use them while the microwave is running
      b) the inconvenience alone would defeat the purpose of using a microwave (for most people).

    • @SkullSkillsSkates
      @SkullSkillsSkates 9 년 전 +2

      eh. as much as inconvinient putting a cup of watewr so the food doesn't dry as it comes out. and you can use it. the lcd is big enough. if it can handle the micro wave radioation tho i don't know. while it is less convenient, it could work.

    • @InvisiMan2006
      @InvisiMan2006 9 년 전 +12

      SkullSkillsSkates Using a probe defeats the purpose of this heat sensing microwave design. It's redundant to have both the microwave and user check food temps.

    In addition to this awesome idea, you have the opportunity to introduce another sought-after feature to the microwave industry: quiet mode. Just press a button or set up a timer so that the microwave doesn't scream into the night, informing all of your sleeping neighbors and loved ones of your midnight food binges.

    Over range microwave ovens could benefit from this, since these appliances tend to be a lot more expensive than the countertop microwave. Microwaves with these features, would be the 'Pro' version of current ovens.
    I've done the microwaving a bit different lately, I would microwave the food for at least 3 or 4 minutes, then let the microwave sit for 5 minutes, then continue cooking, but with 30 seconds or so added to the cooking time. Seems to be fewer hot/cold spots that way.
    You would need this on foods, that require critical cooking times like 3 minute pizza, where adding just 10 to 15 seconds to the cooking time, will kill the pizza. The camera should have both infra-red, and regular video modes, plus the ability to pause the microwave from the smartphone. Another one is a smoke detector that stops the cooking in an instant, if the food is over cooking.

    • @Patchuchan

      Basic functionality of a thermal imaging sensor such as having to microwave be able to look for hot and cold spots in the food probably could even be implemented in a low cost uC like a STM-32,or even a MPS430 or AT Xmega so the only major added cost to a base model microwave would be the sensor and it's shielded window.
      The cheaper sensors such as the one inside the flir one are fairly low resolution and you wouldn't need a high frame rate so even an 8bit chip may be up to the task if you don't need the other features.

    Infrared for temps, cameras w/image search and weight sensors for size/distribution/type of food. Include phone-scanning of packaging/barcodes. + elevation + previous heat job results + community data = PERFECT HEAT JOB with ability to adjust on the fly, and improve with user input.
    Allow the weight/amount/type of food data to interact with fitness trackers (Fitbit) and Diet apps (Weight Watchers.) Food brands recognition from packaging/barcodes could trigger tips/recipes or view an ad for a coupon etc..

    It should also have programmable settings from the app. For instance, my popcorn button is constantly 20 over and burns it. Using the app I should be able to adjust and set the time on the popcorn button. I also heat water for tea for 3 minutes. There should be a quick button that I can program for items that I constantly use (i.e. speed dial). Hit the quick button then hit (1) which I have set for tea and it just goes. 2 quick presses as opposed to 4 with lots of movement.

    I'ts a good idea but mainly for thin foods. The heat map only shows the outside temp ( just like we learned in Predator) So for thicker foods you may need to heat then let the oven shut off and then watching the heat map do several heating turns until you see that the center part does not turn back cold too fast.
