  • I bought a used Apple ProDisplay XDR for a fraction of the retail price. Now that it is 2024, is this still worth it?

      This... I purchased new from apple in December. I use it for my photography business. I make money on it. Sure it's expensive but it's a tool that I use every day. Only professionals and people with lot's of money to burn should buy this. Also, I don't care that it's 60hz. The point is color, dynamic range, and clarity.

  • @JohnSmith-zl8rz
    @JohnSmith-zl8rz 2 개월 전 +2

    you should keep the studio display on vertical, 32 horizontal + 27 vertical will be great. I hate big monitors like 42 or 48, 32 is enough.

    It’s definitely overdue a spec bump to 120hz, more dimming zones and what not.
    Same with the studio display, how are they selling a 60hz non HDR screen for that amount
    Or will Apple just push Vision Pro or a stripped down version in future as their desktop display tech

    • @evancycles
      @evancycles 5 일 전

    • @walmartpimp2
      @walmartpimp2 5 일 전

      @@evancycles Yeah, you're right, the money was rightfully mine all along. If my employers would have paid me what I rightfully earned from the get go I could have saved up and bought the display after a few months. Then again, I was very undisciplined with money at the time and would have never saved up $6000 plus 8% for sales tax, so it's a double edged sword. Either way, I love this display. When a successor comes out I will buy it on day one.

    I mean it’s cool that it’s 6K and HDR but no 120hz kinda hurts. Especially when the 14+16 MBPs have it (of course it’s not 6k but still) and the 12.9” iPad Pro. The XDR doesn’t even have a built in web cam or speaker like the cheaper yet still overpriced Studio Display. It’s not even the most colour accurate display. For this price tag you’d at least want it to compare to the even more expensive reference displays. I just don’t understand the need for this product.

  • @zaaap0

    I also bought this monitor second-hand, and after not even 9 months of use, it broke. The screen suddenly turned black, and nobody, including Apple, could repair it; only a replacement (not new) with a warranty of only 90 days, for the sum of 3000 euros. It didn't seem like a good deal to me, so it became a significant loss. It now sits on the other desk as an object with a pleasing appearance. Now I have opted for a new studio display with a 2-year warranty.
    Setting aside this experience, the monitor is absolutely phenomenal. The colors don't compare to the studio display panel. The 32-inch screen does help me more, to be fair, with a thinner bezel than the studio display, although I didn't use HDR. I wouldn't buy it new; it's not worth the price difference for my productivity work compared to the studio display, but if I were to find another second-hand one with more warranty, I wouldn't hesitate to buy it again.

    Creatives should save money on the matte coating, matte coatings objectively deteriorate image quality. It's essentially a 'pro mist' filter applied permanently to your image. It raises black levels, it reduces sharpness, contrast and saturation.
    There's a reason no phone, no tv and no macbook or high end laptop comes with a matte display coating.

    I don't mean to make you feel bad about your purchase, and I'm happy that it works great for you.
    This display is mostly for those people who are super rich and simply like the aesthetic, it is objectively a bad deal price wise, you can buy an m3 max macbook pro with 2tb of storage for this money and STILL have a display with better technology than this (albeit smaller.)
    Or even you can buy an m3 max macbook pro with 1tb of storage and a 42 inch 4k 120hz LG OLED 10bit native display which blows this out of the water tech wise, so two better displays and a computer and you're still under budget of a new one of these and bang on with a used one.
