It was hard for me, because even if my grandma is alive, she doesn't remember us anymore, and it's heartbreaking seeing her like that. She was so full of life and character and now is just...there. Even if it has nothing to do with me, it made me happy seeing you taking care of her like that and enjoying a few days with her :)

My halmoni also raised me when my parents were both working, and she lived with my family in the US until I was 15 years old. Then, she moved back to korea. Seeing you reminisce on your childhood with your halmoni and cherishing the time you spent together now, too - it struck a chord with me. I definitely feel the same way about my relationship with my halmoni, too. Seeing her get older and her body start to fail her really hurts my heart, but I'm still grateful for all the time I get to spend with her, even when it's just a phone call or video call. this vlog was everything. being an immigrant and away from the family that you grew up with is so hard. last time i was able to visit Nicaragua was 2014, and have been in the US since 2010. On my last trip there i spent it truly getting to know my grandma and spending time with her, i found this trip to be a blessing in disguise for little did i know those times would become so precious. 2 years ago she was diagnosed with a bad and rapid case of dementia and alzheimer’s, so she no longer remembers me when we video chat. Before even watching this video, last night i was reminiscing of when we used to end our video calls, how she told me how proud she was of me, how much she loves me, and to keep on studying hard. Sometimes it’s so hard to remember her voice, as she no longer talks. This video touched a special place in my heart. i know too how bittersweet those moments feel. 🤍
