    Korea can only farm for half of a year so Korean's staple diet was mainly preserved veggie foods and fish/seafood hence there's so many veggie pickles & seafood varieties. Koreans also have huge variety of meat cuisine, there's 80 different types of egg dishes (using just egg ^ limited ingredients.

    Watching several of these asian food history videos lately, the one thing that stands out the most compared to western food, besides the higher skills, is that they seem to actually care about promoting health benefits! Even their "fast foods" have some sort of health promoting qualities! It's so different than what I'm use to, and it's really attracting me to it. These qualities aren't even represented in the westernied asian foods here in North America, or at least at the food preperations places I've visited. Here we have a heavy theme of "buyer beware", which is one of the things that makes me loose faith in capatalism.

    This movie misses 젓갈.

    Traslation states that soy bean came from manchuria.
    But they failed to understand that manchuria was part of korea long ago and the people (koreans) there brought soy to the land which is called korea now. This also means that soy sauce was originally made by the ancient koreans.
    Discovery channel failed to understand that people lived in early manchuria were infact koreans. Now that manchuria is part of china discovert channel thinks soy and soy sauce came from china.
    One other thing that discovery channel failed to interpret correctly in the earlier part of this film is that they called "chinese doctor". Infact, the kimchi competition-er should have been called "korean herbal doctor".

    • @gsgaidan10
      @gsgaidan10 9 년 전 +2

      Sorry, but Manchuria was never part of Korea nor were they Koreans in any form. They were largely Jurchen peoples of the Tungusic persuasion, ethnic Manchu who came from that region. Furthermore, soy sauce was never "originally" made by ancient Koreans. We can place with absolute certainty through historic and scientific means its original invention by the Chinese in the 2nd Century BCE.

    • @gsgaidan10
      @gsgaidan10 9 년 전 +1

      bada bing That was the Korean Peninsula. Manchu was Northern China bordering Russia. Two different geographic locations. In fact, there are studies indicating that Koreans themselves may have possible Manchu origin. (I'm just repeating the stuff from my anthropology texts. These aren't my opinions). You are entitled to your own opinions not your own facts.

    Even though I'm a Korean, I don't like how we are arguing the name of the sea. Japan can might as well argue it is not East sea, since it's on their west side. You see the similarity with Korean arguing why it shouldn't be the Sea of Japan? We are just running around circle as you can see.
    What we should be doing is, we should pursue for a new name that both side can agree on. Or else, the argument will run forever.

    No, it is not 'fact'.
    The International Hydrographic Organization recognized that the only official name for this particular sea is the 'Sea of Japan'; I'm guessing most likely attaining this title early on due to the adoption of Westernization/globalization within Japan in the 17th - 19th centuries. It is referred to as the 'East Sea' within South Korea, and 'East Sea of Korea' within North Korea.
    I myself stand neutral on its name, but please do not present something as 'fact' when it is not.

    scholars today refute that claim anyway, we don't know if he was Chinese, modern Koreans are genetically different from modern Chinese. Modern Chinese cultures are influenced by Mongol, Manchu, Cultural influences goes reverse now, Chinese now follows Korean culture.

    Korean Culture is heavily influenced by Chinese culture for thousands of years. Korea has been part of China for many times and many commanderies were set up there - namely, the most famous two, Lelang 樂郎 and Xuantu 玄菟. So no surprise there. Their music is also heavily influenced or borrowed from Chinese

    I don't why people should be a shame to eat dogs. I don't see anything wrong with it as long as it's not someone's pet. And no, I have never eaten a dog but would try it, if there was a restaurant that can cook and make it taste delicious. Pigs are just as smart as a dog and they are just like dogs too. So people should get over it.
