I wonder whether Clan Eshin would be moved here to make the dark lands less crowded as historically clan Eshin has connection to the land and it is in Cathay and Nippon that they became the assassin clan. I also wonder whether the High elves would have a presence since out of all the factions they visit and maintain relations with Cathay more than any other nations plus they have the Gates of Calith, Tor Ethilis and the Tower of the Rising sun nearby. According to the map the Gates of Calith are on the southern most tip of Cathay, so if Cathay's map goes to the coast it is likely we will see High Elves in the area.
Honestly, I see your point with Clan Eshin being moved. I think for Warhammer 2, the Land of the Dervishes was the furthest east CA was prepared to go; any further than that and they would have needed to explain away all the "blank space" that would have naturally been inhabited by Warhammer 3 races. I think it's very likely they'll get relocated when Mortal Empires drops for WH3.
There’s honestly nothing stopping them from doing this. Plus it could give another faction in the game 3 exclusive campaign. They’d make a lot more sense than Kislev tbh

It's most likely a GW's decision since they wanted to release the Old World at the same time and they had to delay it so they probably forced Warhammer's 3 delay. That's why this sudden new.
@Patrick Swan It is known that GW has put many conditions for CA and GW is overprotective with it's products. So it's not that unlikely.

Theres currently one on the Workshop. Quite solid, and along with Dawi Firepower and Hammer of grungni, Dwarf campaigns are quite entertaining. Especially as Thorek.
@@dektarey4024 that mod pairs well with Mixu's that adds a Dwarve LL that is a Engineer that focuses on flying units. Atleast I wanna say it's Mixu's might be a different mod.?.

There's already a very great mod for them on the Workshop. I'm using them now on my Very Hard campaign, they're extremely well done.

I hope they improve trade pathing, and allow trade to pass through lands networked by trade agreements (perhaps at a small decrease). I would love to see trade from Cathay to Miragliano!

I don't know if this would be good or bad, but I sort of wonder if they'd introduce a piracy system like what Stellaris has. Like the longer the overland trade route, the higher risk of losing profits to highwaymen, etc.

@@josephkush1032 judging from the og trailer, the map doesn’t go past the worlds edge mountains, so if any of Kislev’s actual territory is on the map, it will be entirely new lore territory invented solely for this game

I love the hybridized western/eastern dragon design. It's got the serpentine features of a traditional eastern dragon, but the legs aren't stupidly far apart like in traditional art. These could totally pass as western dragons if you slapped wings on them.
Those Kirins and the Tzeencth sorcerers on flying disks man. my hype goes even higher for WH3.

Looks like they stuck the landing aesthetic-wise and I had pretty big expectations for Cathay!
I wouldn't give them any cutscene to game credit. The first total war cinematics were full of massive siege maps with multiple levels, bridges, and sizes larger than a single unit.
While I'll keep commenting and flailing about that moment in the trailer where the hand cannons step back and swap with melee troops as if they're legionaires from Rome 1, where I doubt it'll be in the game.. But I really want it to

Those sweeping shots of Grand Cathay might be the prettiest thing I've ever seen in a video game. Utterly magnificent style. Love the creativity and variety. Still not gonna pre-order, but I basically just went from doubting its inclusion to "this is gonna be my favorite faction".
I really hope each Chaos God has his own unique warriors of chaos, with unique designs as with Khorne. Right now, with AoS miniatures they have plenty ideas to inspire them.
They have already implemented the Blood Warriors from AoS, only they inexplicably (and unfortunately) renamed them Chaos Warriors of Khorne.

Cathay is definitely in the wrong here, giant cannons were a thing in Medieval Russia (the largest cannon in history was in fact made in Russia), whereas China, in spite of inventing gunpowder, couldn't develop modern cannons without Western designs.
Cathay invented gunpowder so it's definitely Kislev who's appropriating

I can easily say I am more exited for Cathay than any other faction in warhammer 3 they look so badass and I love the constructs. Also I love them being Chinese since no one else in the game is it that makes the unik.

loved this trailer, im of the same mind as you Idny on pretty much everything, especially the Chosen look, they've gotta be more unique and special for each faction.
Cathay looks like the most interesting faction so far, gonna get the most campaign time out of them gameplaywise.
They do look pretty cool, but I'm still here for Kislev. Heavy metal cossacks pulling a Cadia is exactly my speed. This trailer though has thoroughly convinced me to atleaat give them a try

The Tzeentch units and the Cathay units look amazing! (besides the chosen placeholder,great video btw)
A smart thing about the balance mechanic of Cathay is that it also gives a very clear goal for helping defeating them on battle which is divide and concur, certain factions do alright or preform just as effectively when their units are separated so Cathay needing to be supportive of eachother works very well
i also want to bring up how fun cathay looks... what stands out to me is skaven, i see a screaming bell type orb, i see jezzails, THEN bretonnia, flying cavalry, mix this with solid almost elf like infantry and kislev like gunpowder lines... cathay is gonna be winning many tournaments, MARK MY WORDS
My guess is that like the Chaos Dwarves on the TT was just better then dwarves in every aspect but had a price point to match, Cathay will probably also be expensive units for the most part. At least that the best way to balance them from the unit I have seen.
Cathay is probably the Empire/High Elf Type of Faction for WH3.

The balloons, clouds, and floating mountains remind me of a trailer I saw for Asura Online. I never played that game but I loved the trailer - this setting feels like that and I’m very excited.
0:32 Didn't notice the first time I watched the trailer, but I love the lightly armored troops on the left of the elite halberds. My guess is those are either militia, or warrior monks?
We better be able to play on the whole siege map. That looks so dope
I'm hopefully optimistic about the map. The roads in the background look very wide, like they were designed with gameplay in mind, and they follow pretty linear tracks around the edges of the city. They don't look great from a city-building perspective, so I'm hopeful that they were specifically designed for use, instead of the massive unplayable background cities we see in the current games. Hoping it's not just a one-off quest battle map, and that other siege maps have been similarly expanded.
@@azeon562 Yeah it reminds me of the Shogun maps, which makes me optimistic. I'm just a bit worried that they do that thing where they show off the mao in cinematic mode so you cant see the lines at the edge of the maps. But hey new game new maps. I'm hopeful

slight correction that I didn't seen in the comments, the flying horse things aren't Kirin, they are Longma (literally translates to Dragon horse). they were name dropped along side Jade warriors, Celestial Dragon Guard, and a few more units in an article.
I know everyone wants sieges, but fleshed-out aerial mechanics has always been top a' my list. Hopefully that's what's happening here.

@@alfredoisaacponcearias7148 Amazing, but I doubt we'll ever get that. I just want more for them in regular battler. Units that can land, units that are anti-air, faster movement speed in the air. Less micro needed for bombing. Maybe swooping attacks (units charge and try to fly off immediately) and a few better animations.
I'll be interested to see any lore between Cathay dragons and old world dragons

@@Woeboez Nagash, Kroak, and Kairos are their own separate and exclusive league. Mazdamundi is one league below with Teclis. Nothing to scoff at, though, the drop in power level in the 3rd league is pretty big.
@@Khorothis Nahh. Kroak is the most powerful slann but even a regular slann eclipses any elf. And mazdamundi is anything but a regular Slann.
@@Woeboez Teclis isn't just a random dandelion-eater, you know, he is the most powerful mortal spellcaster alive, so he's probably the only one in roughly the same tier as Mazdamundi.
And Kroak, while powerful, is indeed in the same ballpark as the guy who invented Necromancy and became a demi-god (or a full-blown god if you take AoS seriously), and the top Greater Daemon of the God of Magic.

Havent finished the vid so might be an already answered question - but is there going to be a new lore of magic with the Dragon sorcerers/alchemists from Grand Cathay? I know we are getting Ice with kislev and probably some demon lores as well.
It looks amazing, very impressed. Although a bit worried it might not fit in, worried their level of fantasyness wont be on the same level as dwarfs or empire, especially tech wise.

What would be really cool for the choosen of Tzeentch is that they look normal at the start of the battle and slowly mutate/change to monster hybrids. This would be really cool mechanic. You would think you are fighting normal infantry which are slow and armored, which then suddenly change into fast monsters infrantry . If they could change back and forth, it would make mele infantry way more viable vs ranged units. This would give Tzeentch such a unique playstyle that would fit in its lore.
The unit designs are on point. Those golden halberds units have me salivating.
I hope my stunty boys get some toys in the future so they aren't just Cathay lite. Cathay looks amazing, but I am seriously worried about power creep with this faction specifically(why do they have Jezzails?), so I hope that CA clarifies what truly brings them in line to be competitive and not just dominant. Also, I can't wait to see more Tzeentchy goodness.
The reason they have Jezzails is because Araby invented them and then traded them to both the empire and Cathay, and the Skaven have also commandeered them.
And my guess they will be like the Chaos Dwarves on TT who was just better at everything compared to Dwarves, but had the price point to match. At least that is probably the best way to balance them.
Make it where they either have really cheap fodder units or really expensive elite unit and not have an actual middle tier type of unit. And possible make it where like the empire they have to rely on a mixed arms army to be the best bang for your buck.

@@singularleaf3895 No problem, the old lore makes sense with the real world equivalent being invented and implemented in south/central Asia, but I do wish that Cathay would have been given something a little more original.
@@NCcody811 Well the lore has changed again with Cathay. it is very likely that the use of gunpowder originated in Cathay now since that is how actual history happened. Those riffles they have are likely older then the skaven or the dwarfs as a race.

I think the cinematic really shows the re made siege mechanics. From what it looks like, heavy artillery is able to be on the walls and shoot down into the fray. I really hope CA doesn't mess this up.
I really wouldn't take the cinematic as evidence, given that the cinematic trailers for Total War Warhammer 1 showed the same thing.

To be fair to the Yin and Yang thing. It was an existing concept magic wise in earlier editions. Though it was interpreted as a variation of Light and Dark magic at that time. Similar to how Celestial magic of Cathay was though to be a branch from Heavens.
And it does seem like Cathay is going with a bit more inspired approach to it. Instead of the usual "Yin good cause white, Yang bad cause black" dynamic people tend to go for. The concept is a lot more complex than that, and from the way they appear to be thematically applying it, it appears more in line with the actual ideal than the pop culture picture.
The way they named the two LLs is super interesting too. Since it ties into the four cardinal guardians of China and the idea of the dragon kings too; someone on reddit put it better than I can.

I had hope for those from the moment Cathay had been confirmed. I do think this game is going to be supported for quite some time, and I think we'll likely get at least one of those three as a DLC later on.

Anyone think they're going to make ME spherical? As in you could travel East of Cathay and step into Dark Elf territory.... It'll be an interesting way to make the absurd map slightly more traversable

I think it's possible but very unlikely. There has never been a single suggestion at all that the map will be spherical. We would have heard at least some rumors if that were true as it would be the central way to operate the main main. That's just a pipedream I'm afraid.
Even Vampire Coast existed in tabletop through a White Dwarf list, though the models had to be entirely converted. This will be the first playable faction that is completely new.
Makes me really curious for The Old World tabletop now as well.
Honest opinions needed. I thought of a secondary faction mechanic were the faction can take out loans from a sort of royal bank. After a certain amount of turns, you need to pay them back. If you can’t do so, then you receive some sort of debuff that’s quite severe. The amount of gold that you can borrow has a few fixed amounts, and the larger the sum, the longer you have to pay the bank back.
