I was hit in the bicep from a foul tip (90 mph fast ball). I was a high school umpire. I had a bright yellow bruise for 2 weeks before it finally started to turn purple. That latest another 2 weeks or so. The mark was twice the size of the baseball and it took several seconds for the real pain to set in. I called time out for at least 10 minutes trying to recover.

I'll never forget when I had an incident similar to that happen to myself, when I was Managing Little League baseball at the time.
The game was yet to start and my team was already on the field getting their throws in to each other.
I was standing by the open gate in the dugout on the first base side, filling out my line-up sheet, when my Second Baseman over threw my First Baseman and the ball hit me directly in my chest.
They both got scared and immediatly started apologizing. I picked up the ball and got it back to them, and as I was starting to tell them not to worry about it, that it was okay, during that interaction, my hearing went muttled and I started to feel like things were going in slow motion and my voice sounded(to myself) like a record in cartoons when they would slow it down and it becomes rather deep sounding and rugged.
Right as soon as I finished telling them that, I felt my heart starting to skip beats and I got extremely lightheaded to where I had to sit down on the bench for about a minute. It soon went away after a couple of minutes and didn't return, but damn that was pretty scary!
I'm sure had it been a Junior League ball player or High Schooler, it probably would have been worse.
I've taken ground balls off the chest before as a player and took it like nothing. But the ground is slowing the ball down enough to where it's just not gonna have that kind of force of an impact. So I can only imagine how a 115 mph line-drive must feel directly to the chest.
That's dangerous and has gotta hurt like a S.O.B.!

I've only been hit bad by a ball once. Big bruise on the shin, could see the stiches from the ball in my leg. Swelled up like a grapefruit. Couldn't walk to well on it for a solid couple of days. Can't imagine a hit to the chest, at MLB speeds. That's gonna hurt for a while. Hats off to him for still getting the out. Damn good player.

This guy is a true gamer. If it was indeed the rib cage it's not fun. I had brused ribs after a car accident and was in severe pain for almost a month.

At first glance I thought this was new and that it involved the Astros so I was calculating the suspension the batter would get for his purposeful and malicious attack with the batted ball. I was leaning towards lifetime band when the details became clear.
