First time in opening day history a pitcher has struck out 11, walked 0 and given up 1 or less runs. Historic performance
Sure. But JR Richard did 12 K, 0BB, 1 ER on openign day which seems marginally more impressive. Bob Gibson had 13 K, 0BB and 0 R in a complete game on opening day. Surely that's better. How to we feel about Bob Veale's 10 K, 0BB, CG shutout in 10 innings? Or Glavine's 9K CG shutout? Surely a shutout is better than giving up 1 run.
I love baseball. But these hokey stats where you need a million qualifiers to say "historic performance" are silly. Not everything has to be the best ever.
Burnes' start was great. He looks great in orange. And just about a perfect opening day for Os fans... but c'mon.

People with short attention span and no appreciation for athletic ability will find a way.
Easy, take your pick
1). Lack of a salary cap to promote fair play. All the talent gets bought out by these large market teams, leaving small market teams in the dust.
2) half of the league is owners by greedy owners who don’t offer any money, they try and Input the least they can and take out the most. ( trust me, I know , Ms fan here)
3) way too many games. The games in the first half of the season don’t matter because of the sheer volume of games. Most of the league is within 5 games of each other in August anyways, except for extreme outliers like the As and Dodgers. Losing and winning in the first half of the season matters a lot less than the seconds half.
4 hella inconvenient game times. Sorry MLB I got college and work and other commitments and can’t watch a game 1PM on a weekday

Ill admit it i moved to the area and was mocking the orioles for not spending and losing a 100 games multiple times. but this team is scary good what a rebuild they really hit on there draft picks. What a offense these kids can really hit and trading got burnes was a slam dunk.

Glad baseball is back, but I wish opening day was still played after the NCAA basketball championship like it was for a long time. It changed when they started adding all the extra playoff games. Now the season is about three or four weeks too long.
