I hope everyone is healthy and well during this difficult time.
just hoping that this will be over soon so we can all go back to our regular routines.
Today's video is all about Wooyoo's fur! Having to live with a samoyed is a great pleasure. But surely it comes with a price, the fur. Personally, dealing with shedding is not too bad. You can as you see. That's it. But to me, it is much more difficult of a task to take proper care of her coat. Only a few days of improper care can lead to matts and knots, which can lead to skin diseases and ultimately, shaving of the affected area.
Since Wooyoo is going through a shedding season right now, I thought it will be a good time to show you guys how we take care of Wooyoo's coat, as well as find out how much of hair is hiding under her coat.

I’m a dog groomer from California and I love seeing how much you care about your pets coat health! I highly recommend using conditioner spray or even just spritzing water on the coat before you brush him. Brushing the coat dry can cause hair follicle breakage which can lead to more knots and matting. The Chris Christensen coral slicker brush is amazing for getting through thick hair, it is pricy but totally worth the investment. You honestly don’t need other brushes once you get it. I noticed that you had a furminator brush and I don’t recommend using the brush. It is meant for dogs with flat coats like pugs and English bulldogs. Even then I don’t recommend it as it caused hair follicle breakage and can be unhealthy for the skin.

I did fostering and rescue for this breed. No offense, but I can't trust groomers. You're too quick with a razor.
These dogs need a rake to comb them out, and it has to be done once a week. Do that, and beyond the constant vacuuming, they are pretty easy to have but you must be diligent and patient, and Samoyeds aren't always patient.
I never used any product on my dogs. I'd bathe them in I think Sauve shampoo - it's cheap and they stunk of flowers or whatever the scent was. Be certain to get ALL the soap out, or 3 weeks later you end up with a fungal infection - a hot spot.
A friend of mine used to blow his out with a leaf blower. It looked like it was snowing and left an awful mess - birds would pick up the hair though for their nest. These dogs are no trivial things to have. I love these dogs dearly, however, they are a ton of work. That's why I did rescue, people give up on them, because no matter how cute and adorable they are, how sweet, they are a lot of WORK.
When people saw me with a foster and expressed interest in them, my duty was to explain why they never would want one. It takes a crazy person to own one. Super hard to own, but they had no scent, just hair, hair, hair, hair everywhere.
@@richardwicks4190 Ill be honest and do take a little offense haha. I did not mention in my post about shaving this breed type. And I am in southern California.
I am a groomer who believes in educating one self on the different needs of breeds. I am well informed that these dogs are never to be shaved as shaving a double coated dog can cause a disruption in the oils of their skin and once shaved it may not grow back or won't grow back the same. The double coat helps them stay cool and protects them from the sun. IF maintained of course. Once a double coat becomes compacted and matted it can then cause discomfort to the pet and cause many issues to their skin.
Of course a double rake is a great brush to use on the breeds. If it's the right one. The JW double rake on Amazon has a slight curve to it and by far is the best rake to use. Personally I use the Chris Christensen coral brush because once I use it, I personally don't have the need for the rake. Unless the coat is severely compacted. Then of course use all the tools one has to bring that cost back to its healthy state. I did not recommend that rake because I can tell that these owners take wonderful care of their dogs.
I'm sorry that you have had bad experiences with groomers, but please don't project your bad experiences onto other groomers. I recommend that everyone that reads this post to always ask questions to any new groomer you will try. For example,do you shave double coated dogs? If they do, and don't offer why, then I personally would not trust them. The only time to shave a double coated dog is if it has medical issues or is a super senior. We're unfortunately not all educated equally and right now there is not standardized education for groomers. Although I do know that there are people in the grooming industry who are trying to change that.
That is wonderful that you are educating people and on the intense needs of these dogs as it does take someone who is very serious. And can handle their awesome energy.

These breeds are a serious commitment and unfortunately I have groomed dogs like this that are neglected.

Exactly :) I think it's so important for people to consider the pros, cons, and specific demands of different dogs/animals in general. That way, you end up knowing for sure that you want the animal, you know you can provide and accommodate for that specific animal, and you end up with a happy, healthy pet in the end :) ❤️

My highest about of dogs was 8 but that was how many were alive, we had (not counting when we found them) 10 or 9 each.

I saw a post where a dog owner was gathering all the brushed floof and put it in some kind of caged bird feeder. Birds would come take the fur and used them in their nest, so the baby birds stayed warm.

@@moogleydoot Yeah when I brush my cats I have to keep the fur hidden. I once got a large amount off one cat and the moment I set the fur ball down he grabbed it in his mouth and took off.
they actually like to use hair and moss as it is lightweighted and keep the heat. Even after you brush your own hair and a lot of it gets suck on the brush, you can gather it and leave it in a bush outside!
The birds will happily use it!

@@LadyHeathersLair I read about some native American tribes that had used a special type of dog for its fur to make fabric. I think it said the dog was extinct, which is sad. I think it said that the tribe was on the west coast of BC.
If you blend it with a longer and more resilient fibre (e.g. sheep's wool), samoyed hair apparently knits up nicely into soft, super-warm garments. I think you could create a whole new wardrobe of clothes out of this one dog.
Seems Wooyoo prefers mom's brushing techniques. Dad is more fun for play time. :)

This is so good that you guys are showing people how much work it actually takes to keep a dog like wooyoo - unfortunately a lot of people make impulsive decisions about getting pets and I hope this makes people more aware of what they are getting themselves into :)

Very true. I love dogs but I knew I would not adopt a breed that needs this much care. I adopted a little deerhead chihuahua that needs hardly any grooming. Much respect for these owners its a lot of work.

There is no way I am EVER getting a Samoyed. So CUTE, but too much MAINTENANCE!
I grew up with a Samoyed . She was smart and clever and she was an outside dog .we had a beautiful dog house and preferred it . The house was too warm for her . So the shedding wasn’t a problem . Lovely memories .

I have thick high maintainence hair, so I feel like getting a Samoyed would be pretty easy for me as maintainence wise there would be not difference almost

i have friend that has a samoyed dog as well and makes pillows, cushions and blankets out of her dog's shedding fur, all for her own dog's use of course. she said that letting a dog have pillows and blankets that smell much like them can make them calmer, especially if they're a young and playful dog.
How does she do that? Does she spin yarn out of the fur?

@@dave5194 yes. Unlike other dogs' fur, samoyed fur is actually very easy to spin because of much longer strands. My friend, a dog trainer, who has six huge Samoyed dogs give out a lot of yarn or sometimes even sweaters and beanies every year to family and friends.

목욕도 하루 날 잡아서 해야된다고 하고 털 말릴 때도 드라이룸으로는 속털이 완벽히 안말라서 드라이로 꼼꼼히 말려야된다고 들었어요
사모예드는 여름에 취약해서 에어컨도 24시간 풀가동 시켜야되는데 전기세도 어마어마하게 나온대요 무엇보다 털빠짐은.. 이번 영상이 말해주네요!! 오늘도 랜선이모로 만족하자고 다짐 또 다짐하고 갑니다 ㅠㅠㅠ

this just shows how much work it is to take care of a super fluffy dog like a samoyed. they may be cute but if you’re not willing to take proper care of its fur let alone its other needs then you may as well not get a dog at all. this applies to all pets too.

Personally we have a dog that doesn’t shed a whole lot, obviously he still does though. We have an Airedale Terrier, he doesn’t shed as much as a lot of dogs. But I’m sure it can depend on the dog.

It makes me sad because my neighbors parents impulse bought a Samoyed and it’s got matted fur and looks horrible (I give it treats and food and water when I can) edit: ok so just to clarify one of my other neighbors noticed the poor condition the dog was in and called someone. The dog is no longer living with them. 🙂
