People are dying in Italy because they didn't take it seriously soon enough and they spread the virus so far it's overwhelming their healthcare system altogether. The same situation would only be worse if their citizens also had to worry about the cost.
Single payer & universal healthcare systems have been saving lives in many other countries (South Korea, Sweden, Germany, Canada, etc.) by making it so their citizens don't have to worry about the costs of testing or treatment. What percentage of Americans can afford $35,000 out-of-pocket after losing their jobs (& subsequently their healthcare plans) for testing and treatment right now?
Also, if common sense in the US existed, our healthcare system wouldn't be run by for-profit companies and tied to our employment status.
