Warner writes to Gov. with no answers made: Here is his letter; Governor Wolf, there are thousands of small business owners in my district and across this commonwealth that have gone three weeks with little to no source of income. While many have applied for various SBA loans, they have yet to receive a single dime in their bank accounts. Your office, nor the Department of Labor and Industry, have provided any information on when the applications for self-employed unemployment compensation will be available. I understand the task of creating a brand-new system in order to administer these funds, and while I do not wish to dismiss the difficulty of this undertaking, I’m concerned by the lack of communication that has been provided to these Pennsylvanians that are in dire need. Not once on your social media pages do you even mention that self-employed unemployment will be available, needless to say communicate an estimated timeframe of when they may apply. The only message that you have announced to these business owners is that they must close. Maybe the answer isn’t going to be pretty, but Governor I grow tired of telling my constituents that, “I don’t have any details and I will let you know as soon as the application is available.” I’d rather tell them the truth, even if it’s a difficult truth. I understand that you are in a challenging situation, and at times have near impossible decisions to make, however you have granted yourself unprecedented power and with that power comes unprecedented responsibility. So, with that, I ask you when can these people expect to be able to apply for unemployment compensation? I ask what is our plan going forward? What data driven goals are we looking at to put Pennsylvanians back to work? Is there a plan to let certain age groups or regions return to work? The vast majority of Pennsylvanians understand the need for focused solutions to protect the most vulnerable in our society and are willing to take extreme measures to ensure success. What they cannot do, and we should not ask them to do, is sacrifice indefinitely without a clear plan for a return to work and a normal life. Give these people some type of metrics, give them some type of guidelines, please give them some kind of hope.
