Not only bus drivers but people at Walmart, Costco, Lowe's, CVS, etc. We're very close to not having any businesses open. If a few people get sick at those places, they'll have to shut down and do a deep cleaning. But who knows how long it would be before it's safe to shop at those places again.

The Captain sent it up the chain of command, and made a judgment call and skipped a step to the next rank when he found a broken link. Sad that he's taking the fall for it rather than the staffer, as he clearly cares about the safety and well-being of his troops, which almost surely leads to higher morale and a stronger military overall.

As far as I'm concerned, that Capt. is a hero for preventing a situation, that is already INCREDIBLY hard to manage, from becoming A LOT worse!! Those sailors are out at sea for months, in tight quarters, they have to share bunks, and their small medical staff can't handle that!! Anyone who doesn't realize that should be sent on a cruise ship for a lil vacation to think about it.

sergio scarponi -- the driver is clearly showing symptoms of being sick while working with the public -- the media could have used this a teaching moment for workers, instead , everyone is bashing on some 'woman' that we have no video of (city buses have cameras -- they could have blurred out the face but leave the audio )

We are on the front lines also as a first responder with my wife is also a nurse, police are trespassing Trump supporters going on attacking us calling us thieves now while occuring taking equipment and supplies out the back door. I am not sure what hospital you are in sir but the Trump supporters have been steadily doing this at least once or twice a shift in mine. The hospital admin gave orders to the on duty officer now thankfully to trespass family members of patients that abuse us now with that. I hope many more are taking notice.

There was this young guy in the restaurant last month who was laughing and coughing about 800 feet from me. Wouldn't cover his mouth and kept coughing and laughing...
I left and before I made it out the door the cashier guy had said are you paying for your foods and I just kept exiting out their business door.
If you see somebody coughing in an closed room area leave immediately. I did notice his nose dripping so it might have been a cold.
I was wearing hazard gears, 3m mask with side filters and a very thick latex gloves. Trash the gloves got in the vehicle. Hand sanitize both hands and remove the mask into a big plastic bag.
Later on I spray down the outside parts of the mask but I realized all clothes have go in the wash machine.
Grateful I'm still alive and not being sick and not wondering r if I'm going to die in a few days.

Grocery Stores in Iowa are starting to require all their workers to wear masks, and they are also not allowing more than 1 employee in the aisle at some (Fareway the one I noticed). On the opposite end, I went into a Gas Station wearing my mask and the employee, Assistant Manager even, exclaimed she wish she could wear a mask, but the supervisors deemed that it would cause a panic, so they were not allowed to do so. Ridiculous.
I work for PepsiCo, and even though I'm not required to wear a mask, I wear one, not for my safety, but for others. I don't want to pass it along if I am asymptomatic.

You can be a carrier of this virus and show zero symptoms, so it is not necessarily the lady who coughed that gave him the virus. Hence the 6 ft physical (or length of a hockey stick) distancing rule. If you have to cough, cough into your shoulder. The virus lives on surfaces for up to 3 days. That is why most cities disinfect public transit nightly, it will live on hand rails. When you grocery shop and unpack items wipe down with soap and water, or disinfectant wipes. Virus can even live on a ceral box. Wash all veggies/fruit with soap & water. Throw out plastic grocery bags you used, or put them aside for 3 days til virus dies. Most importantly wash your hands.

Right. When I was looking for a job before this pandemic, there was a lady on the same train and bus that had a mask but kept coughing. Sometimes she would remove her mask and I had to walk to the back of the bus. Some people are very inconsiderate.

I stopped riding the public bus in February because people cough and sneeze all the time without even trying to cover their mouths. Too busy texting or playing on phone to raise one arm to cover their own mouths. And it’s not just children, teenagers, people who don’t know any better... I’m talking about corporate commuters, educated folks, adults, very grown people, etc. Some think ‘oh I’ve got allergies’ or ‘it’s only a scratchy throat, I’m not sick’. Problem is that this virus got out of control when people with ZERO symptoms started spreading it. So it didn’t matter why they were coughing or sneezing, if they were carriers, coughing/sneezing/talking was unleashing it. Now we know. Hopefully things will change, but even with the high death rate, I doubt it. Folks still think it will never happen to them. I was in Whole Food last week and saw a woman, clearly sick with something, pushing a cart and repeatedly coughing into the air while choosing fruit. I just turned around and walked out.

They had a port stop in Asia before the military advised not allowing sailors ashore (as you point out, before things blew up in the US and we realized covid19 was actually thing).
Ships, even carriers, don't stay at sea the entire time before returning home. Whether it's for supplies, crew leave R&R, or diplomacy, ships make stops.
Remember, covid19 incubates for 5 to 14 days. The sailors that became symptomatic in the last couple weeks were infected several weeks weeks ago when ago when the carrier made a port call in Da Nang, Vietnam.
Worse. The sailors have been spreading it amongst themselves, unknowingly during the incubation period, in the time since the first sailors became symptomatic.
