Free healthcare, college costs $500/Year, they all speak english and are well educated. All christians (99%) as well but seldom practice. They pay about 50% of their income in taxes, and a 20% VAT tax on top of that if they buy a car. But, we're talking apples and oranges here. The Icelandic people have been essentially isolated for 1000 years, there's only 350,000, not 350 Million. They are a cohesive group and all essentially cousins of some degree or other. So it's all in the family so to speak. They also have huge geothermal power reserves and it cost's about $70 for energy for the average home. That won't work everywhere, including a country as diverse and fractured as the US. But even in the US no one is ever turned away for treatment, I had a terrible car accident in my 20s and was unemployed, uninsured. I spent 30 days in hospital, after getting what seemed like astronomical bills, I learned there were systems in place to significantly reduce my bills, by like 90%, so you see there are ways to do things without waving a magic pay it all wand. The mechanism I was able to utilize was called the Hill-Burton Act that basically stated that all state funded hospitals (they all are) must donate 10% of their care to people like myself, unemployed, uninsured, and unable to pay. So worry not, the problem you're trying to solve has already been addressed a long time ago, this is just political rhetoric, nothing more, nothing less.
