the cdc site has continued to understate the number of cases ever since that day.
I do not use it as my primary source because it is clearly always wrong/lagging.
The numbers as of yesterday and especially today are suddenly down. Why are they hiding the real numbers and not sharing when we know how hard other states are being overwhelmed?

In S. Korea kids and adults are gathering in parks still. Sharing food. In Switzerland people are completely going to coffee shops restaurants. They preparing for the second wave. Any one arriving at the Airports. Have to fill up a form and placed in hotels for 14 days in mandatory quarantine. And the stuff are completely protected. Here Shief I strongly desagree with you. And I'm a Democrat. So flights from any Country in Europe comming must be assolated not voluntary but obligatory. And that is the infected are coming from. Switzerland are spreading the virus. In China they are experts from Australia, Canada working on developing a vaccine. They able to crate antibodies to prevent from the virus penetrating the virus enter the virus in the systems now they are in a testing trials. Here you did do your homework. And still 4 states here have not implemented any messures I can't rely on the numbers that being reported here in America. So China still have some cases they are treated under good conditions since they have all the supplies and have a lot of ventilators. US should be getting ready for the second wave. But because we are so poorly behind we are not ready for the second wave.

What the House Intelligent has been doing past three years.
Overall what Adam Schiff said was very balanced and thoughtful, I understand that the question about China was a leading question and he dealt with it quite well except that I am in China and I can tell you as a person sourcing medical equipment for various countries at no time has China used the "successful containment" of the virus to promote the sale of medical products. On the contrary most companies I deal with are genuinely concerned that life saving product is made available to everyone. Of course there are unscrupulous people that will make false claims but as a buyer you need to do a proper due diligence before buying from any country.
I just want to add that the USA is also "hiding" the real number of infections by not testing. If you go back and look at the graph in China in the early days there was a sudden spike in the number of cases reported it was at this time that China introduced mass accurate testing for the virus - this spike alone should have lite up all the warning lights globally because it made it very clear that the pandemic was a lot worse than anyone had first thought.
Another point that shows a big difference in the way that China was able to track and minimize the spread of the virus was that China tracked and published 2 sets of numbers for the infections, the one everyone reports today are the number of confirmed infections, China however also published the numbers of suspected cases that had not yet been confirmed by using contact tracing people that had been exposed to a confirmed infections case were tagged as being at risk and were immediately isolated - I don't see this anywhere else.
So there are some very logical reasons why China was more successful in slowing the spread of the virus, unfortunately some of the methods used in China are simply not possible in other countries. We could debate these methods but they are deeply routed in the Chinese and Asian Culture and as such are basically impossible to implement in the West. There is no need to vilify China because of their cultural differences rather step back and understand them and in this case you would need to figure out if there was some way to translate that principle to a Western Culture and make it effective there as well
One last thing - WEAR A MASK ... #wearamask - please spread this to the world.

Just to place the efforts in relief to other countries. In Denmark, we have a paradoxical conondrum, we've managed to stem the curve to the point where about 100 patients are in respirators (out of a capacity of approx 1k respirators), and we're now discussing how to open up society to allow more ppl to get infected at a rate the healthcare system can manage and still protect those who's most endangered by the virus, we'll be doing this because a vacine is about 18 months away and you can't keep everyone cooped up in their houses for a year and a half, so how to do it as safely as possible?
Another thing I'd like to address: Who cares about the numbers in Iran, Russia and China? What matters are the cases you have and the effort you do to stem the outbreak. We could all wish for a modern healthcare system in the entire african continent, but it's not there. So the pandemic will ofc hit hardest in those areas that either doesn't have a modern healthcare system or doesn't include all inhabitants in that healthcare system.. There will be no secure way of knowing how many are infected and who to quarentine from those countries other than at points of entry. Only fix in those scenarios is to screen all travellers from foreign countries and that ofc includes countries that you trust/don't trust. So far: I'd screen every single american travelling to another country because the lack of testing in the US, combined with a healthcare system that caters to those who are insured (with unemployment numbers racing through the roof), ensures that there's a huge number of cases that will neither be detected nor treated. And that's the real human tragedy. The disenfranchised poor die so that the enfranchised few can keep their priviledged lifestyles.

We trying to put half their population on quarantine and started building hospitals at the B end of January, that was a pretty big clue that this was serious. I finished my preparations on February 10th. Why didn't the Trump Administration start preparations until March? They were still denying it was dangerous all of February and halfway through March. After my video visit with my Dr., I went into quarantine. I didn’t qualify for a test, so I fell into the non-confirmed category. My symptoms were not typical, but I’ve not had these symptoms before. That put me in the ‘I’m sure I had it, but know one knows.’ Category. I’m convinced that that category outnumbers the ‘confirmed’.

this is true. The numbers from China is WAY higher then what they have released. In December there was over 21 million more mobil phone users in China then there is today. They are mass ordering body bags. The stats from China does not add up. The World Health organisation are in China pocket sadly. They showed that after getting a few simple questions about Taiwan.
