In case of rubber caps like this one, you can try a little trick if you have someone with you.
Reverse the cap inwards, fill it with water and have the other person simply let it fall on top of your head.
My swimming teacher used to do it back in the day

Hey! I've been doing this for years, with both short and long curly hair. Keep your hair down and on your back, tucked behind your ears. Put the cap on like the girl said, palms facing each other and starting by making the front stick to your forehead. Now take the hair that is out and make a bun leaving some space between it and the rim of the cap, then stick it inside and tidy up what hair is left out. I find this never gave me an headache as the hair is not as stuck in place and can find a better position on its own, without the tie (it's also less tangled with it afterwards)

Itโs also key that this type of cap is the thick silicon and not the thin latex one. The thick silicon are way easier to put on yourself
As a kid in the 60s when you went to a pool it was mandatory to wear a bathing cap. They didnโt have much stretch. They were so tight it was like your mom re-enacting giving birth to you all over again.๐
Headaches were awful.
My BFF and I printed ours with those gel paints that you could use on anything to paint by number. Our plain white caps were embossed so all we had to do was fill in the relief spaces and they looked beautiful! ๐

As the slowest former highschool swim team guy with short hair, as long as it gets on your head and nobody gets hurt, youโre probably fine.
Fun fact: some caps are made with different materials. Cheap caps are usually made with latex and generally those are just to keep your hair from getting wet. Silicone caps are much thicker than the latex and much more difficult to get on in one go, but are more aerodynamic and are generally used for your more important races. A fun way to put silicone caps on is to turn them inside out and fill them with water and have someone drop it on your head. Youโll get soaked, but the cap will b on your head w/ only some minor adjustments needed

Hi! Swimmer of 12 years here! You are totally correct that swim caps are made with different materials. Latex caps do tend to be cheaper than the thicker silicone caps. Whatever type of cap a swimmer chooses to wear is based off of personal preference. Many people think swim caps are supposed to keep our hair dry but unfortunately they do not. They are not sealed therefore, our hair is soaking wet right after we jump in the pool. The caps are just made to reduce the drag that our hair causes. Hope this helps!
For anyone confused, you hold the water in the inside out cap. Then you hold it above the head. The proper inside of the cap will be touching your hair when it drops, and will not be wet, while the proper outside will be wet but not touching your hair as it is currently holding the water. Let go of the sides of the cap and push the cap down a bit at the same time. I.e. drop it. the water will spill out, which pushes the sides out and down on either side of your head while the middle of the cap stays on top of your head. This has the effect of turning the cap right side out as the sides are pushed down by the sudden weight and force of the moving water, and it snaps on to your head. Your hair will be dry if you do it right and your body will be wet, but hey you're going in the pool anyway.
Another easy way is to put baby powder in the cap, it will be much easier to put on!

For all of those wondering, a swim cap has many purposes but the main one is to reduce drag. Hair creates a surprising amount of drag, same reason why swimmers shave their legs
I'm thinking of joining the swim team, since I'm in swim class at my school, and my swimming instructor told me my second day there, that I should consider cutting my hair short. I thought it was just so I can get into a swimming cap, because my hair is so thick, curly and long it's nearly impossible, but from reading these comments. It appears y'all are indeed right, when you guys say hair creates drag.
