    I recommend not mixing brands of acrylic because brands formulate their acrylic differently from each other, so whilst it is all acrylic, on a molecular level, the differences are more apparent. Please further your education about the chemistry of nail technology and discover the reasons behind not mixing brands, this is knowledge all nail techs should know yet isn't part of the syllabus to become a qualified nail tech. It is up to us to seek out further education and understanding of the chemicals we use on a daily basis. Doug Schoon and Marian Newman are just 2 authors of nail technology books that I have read and highly recommend, both are on Amazon so go forth and expand your minds x

    It’s cool to see you mix black/ white pigment to lighten or darken the colors and blend colors together! I’ve watched dozens of videos and no one custom the colors! This is unique! This is a magnificent video! I always wondered about mixing more colors together, now I know 👌... thanks a million

      @Rosa Gonzalez I have another video where I explain using black and white more in depth here's the link krplus.net/bidio/prOXhKN1aHmxo5w
      Black darkens colours and white makes them opaque. TFW 💖

    I do this as well! But I find if I am only using mica I don’t need the mortar and pestal.. i also don’t usually use white unless I’m going for a lighter look or I don’t want the color too be as pearly, and only then I use the white. I only put the clear acrylic in a small jar, add my mica colors I want to mix, put the lid on, and give it a good shake making sure to turn it all around while I’m shaking it. And I never have any clumps. Sometimes when I add white I have to shake it a little more. I only use the mortar and pestal if I am taking out my iron oxides /pigments which are much more pigmented and clumpy. But I usually will first use the coffee grinder. Anyways, thank you for the video. I love the colors you made!

      I find shaking in a pot doesn't work for me, that's why I use the pestle and mortar, but if it works for you great, means less work certainly. TFW 🙂

    • @NailDecadence
      @NailDecadence  4 년 전

      Hi Liz P, the reason that everyone recommends not to mix brands is because on a molecular level every brand is slightly different, I won't go into the differences, but I would recommend reading some nail technology books so that you will gain the understanding that you need. Two authors I recommend are Marian Newman and Doug Schoon, their books explain the science very well and will provide you with the knowledge of why mixing brands can potentially lead to service breakdowns and invalidate your insurance. Given that we're all in lockdown, this is the perfect time to learn more about your craft, unfortunately most nail qualifications miss out so much essential information so furthering your education is up to you to do on your own and I hope that you will take this opportunity to do so. Stay safe and well x

    Do u have the measurements of about how much clear, and how much white and the color I heard u add little bits at a time to reach the color you desire.

    • @NailDecadence
      @NailDecadence  6 개월 전

      Hi 👋🏾 sorry for the extremely late response, I didn't receive any notification of your comment until now. KRplus is weird sometimes. As to your question, I didn't really measure anything. But I can give you a guideline to work from. So say you use 4 teaspoons of clear, 1/2 teaspoon of white for opacity then 1/8 teaspoon of coloured mica powder. That would be a good starting point, then from there you add more colour as needed after you test it on a paper towel. Hope that helps. Best wishes TFW 💖

      @NailDecadence  4 년 전 +1

      Hi, it's called a Pestle and Mortar and it's meant for grinding herbs when cooking, although I keep this one specifically for mixing colours, as it wouldn't be safe to use for food anymore. You can get them in any shop that sells kitchen accessories or online. Thank you for watching, I hope you liked the video and found it helpful. If you did please click the like button 🙂

    Lol the way she says don’t mix brands and try to explain why had me dying laughing😂😂 but on another note I think if you mix “cheap” with “expensive” it won’t turn out so good. I know a lot of nail techs that uses different brands at once

    • @NailDecadence
      @NailDecadence  4 년 전 +1

      I probably should have explained better why it's not good to mix brands, I will bear that in mind for future videos. I would recommend you to read some books about the science of nail technology, authors such as Doug Schoon and Marian Newman have good books. The chemistry of every brand of product is actually different on a molecular level. My goal is to point ppl in the right direction with correct knowledge and understanding, if others choose to be uneducated and are happy to spread incorrect information, that's on them, but I will always try to be informative to ppl new to nail products. If you don't understand why someone does something one way and another does it differently, take that opportunity to question why and seek more knowledge and understanding, the nail industry changes often as new products are developed all the time, there is always something else to learn, the standard nail tech course doesn't give details on the chemistry of the products so it's up to us, to seek out further education. Thinking it's only nails, it ain't that deep, is so far from the truth, it is deep, way deeper than ppl realise, so I really hope you take the opportunity to expand your mind, if you are in lockdown like a lot of the world, now would be the perfect time to learn, not gonna lie, the chemistry side of things can be boring lol but it is knowledge every nail tech should know, it's just a shame that it isn't taught to nail techs as part of their qualifications. Sorry about the long message, I ramble a lot 🤣🙊 but TFW my video.

      Nail Decadence Ooookkk den lol. That message is wwaayyy to long. But you go ahead and not mix brands, I on the other hand the other 97% of people that do nails “mix” brands. Like I just did my nails and I used Valentino monomer, nude for my cover and Mia secret for my transition color ( ombré ) than encapsulate it with my cover color by Valentino again. When I make my own colors I just use one base color and different glitters and whatnot. I’m sorry your experience with using different brands didn’t work out so well but if you take the chance and give it another try I promise you you won’t see the difference.
