No. They have very different roles in the Raptor's scheme. Don't get me wrong, Thomas can shoot. He can shoot very well. But his defence sucks, and his playmaking isn't great either. McCaw is good at standing in passing lanes on D and pulling defenders out of the lane on the attack. Thomas is a very specialized weapon for the Raptors, brought out to score points when the other team's offensive heavyweights are tired or benched, when the other 4 on the floor can defend without him. McCaw is a rotational player who can replace a guard or forward in a tight game and give them a rest, without leaving a gaping hole on the floor. Now, if Nurse wants to drop McCaw from the rotation, and split his minutes between Powell, RHJ, and TD II, that might be a good idea, but until Thomas can get the rest of his game up to snuff, he will remain a bit player.
McCaw just takes minutes from better players, he often looks lost out there and he doesn't fight through screens. The stats just aren't in his favor, he can score, no doubt there, but he doesn't try to. Whether it's a confidence thing idk but he just isn't good enough for the minutes he gets
Although travel would be an obstacle, the NBA and Adam Silver should look into getting rid of conferences during the playoffs. There have been multiple instances where teams miss the playoffs in the western conference with a W/L record that would make them a 5th, 6th or 7th seed in the east.
Crazy Luigi fr man, it sucks. They gotta give the teams that deserve it a spot in the playoffs, regardless of what conference they’re in. Playoff basketball would be way more competitive and exciting.
