I always knew he was a good defender, his footwork/hands/strength is great. Its just about work load effort if he needs to carry his team on offense its harder to put full effort on D in regular season especially.
He's not a bad defender. Anybody saying that they were shocked to see how play defense probably hasn't watched much Mavs basketball. Hes aggressive in the lane which causes him to get out of position alot but he's always played within the confines of team Defense and he still has the ability to block shots and post up smaller defenders. Overall hes above average.
Whether he is a PG or SG, he will be a top 5 all time in the category, Ik this era is a lot easier in terms of tough defense and physicality, as well as scoring. But you can't hate on luka doncic man, this kid is a future mvps and NBA champion. He's a def first team material

His shot selection also was great today he attacked the basket, posted up and only took 5 3s instead of 10. He's finally realized he can't be stopped in the paint.

@@pcs54 I think he's always had the IQ but, maybe it is the fitness, he almost never seemed as engaged/active as he was in this game. You could see him bouncing on his toes, rushing to cover ground and legit jumping. His D normally feels more like Dirk's I'll just anchor and use length and shuffle around. This was different.
