I wrote this during the successful scrimmages and you can find it under the last Zo interview on the Pelicans channel: "The Pelicans have to be careful from being overly confident. The Nets team was weak. The Pelicans will need Zion against squads with a bigger line up and will need Favors too. If the Pelicans are lucky enough to get to that 8th seed to play the Lakers, they have to play smart. Iso ball doesn't work with the Lakers and most elite teams. Ball movement becomes even more important as well as defense. Ball movement keeps the defense of the other team off balance where good offense creates problems for the other team's defense. Teams with length give the Pelicans team trouble. The Pelicans have to remember that Zo is the point guard. Against the Nets, I saw the team revert back to some old habits that can work against these weaker teams but will not work against the elite teams. Lastly, the Pelicans have to move without the ball. Stagnant offense leads to turnovers as the passes become predictable." The Pelicans have reverted back to their failures at the beginning of the season. Poor rotations in the lineup. It's as if they are sabotaging their own success. We know Jrue and BI are more ISO and there is nothing wrong with that against poor teams. But the lack of ball movement against these 2 elite teams make it more obvious. Now against the Clippers, Paul George and Kawhi were hitting 3 bombs and it threw the team off guard as they had no plan on defending either. There are no rebounds to speed up the pace when they were hitting those bombs. But on offense, to begin the game, I saw a lot of Zo handing the ball off and other players forcing things that were not there due to lack of ball movement. No one was moving without the ball. Everyone was basically forcing shots or making bad plays for turnovers. There were 5 turnovers in the 1st few minutes which led to easy basket. Paul George and Kawhi are elite defenders so it ball movement becomes even more important like cuts. The Pelicans do not have players like that except Zion, which is why Zion and Zo had so much success predicting what the other will do. But I saw periods where Gentry decided not to go with the Zo and Zion lineup and had Zion playing without Zo. But the biggest error the Pelicans made in structuring their team this year is having too many guards and not enough forwards. Why would they have a team with Zo, Hart, JJ, Jrue, Frank, Moore, NAWS. That's 7 players in your rotation that are guards. There are times when Gentry rotates them all and will play 4 guards on the floor against opponents who have players on the floor 6'8 and up. The lack of defensive rotations becomes a problem when you throw 4 guards on the floor.

But the biggest error the Pelicans made in structuring their team this year is having too many guards and not enough forwards. Why would they have a team with Zo, Hart, JJ, Jrue, Frank, Moore, NAWS. That's 7 players in your rotation that are guards. There are times when Gentry rotates them all and will play 4 guards on the floor against opponents who have players on the floor 6'8 and up. The lack of defensive rotations becomes a problem when you throw 4 guards on the floor.

Also when players don't see the ball they tend to be worse with it when they do get it, this is what I saw with lonzo this game and his shooting. But yeah at one point tonight Gentry had jj, hart, jackson, favors, and I believe zion on the court. Wtf is that lineup.
@@AK-hg9qw The scrimmages gave me a hint of his strategy. I didn't understand his rotations even then although there was no Zion. What was he saving Zo for in the scrimmages as he gave so many more minutes to NAWS and others. I know players were trying to prevent injuries but I saw Giannis in scrimmages playing significant minutes so why wouldn't you play the key players. There is no way to shake off the rust sitting on the bench and not playing.
