The #1 recruit in the country...could have walked into any room in the nation and had a full ride but stayed home and did this...awesome
Took every fiber of muscle to finish that throw for Alirez! Sure makes us proud here in Northern Colorado!
Spoiler damn I shoulda waited to look at the comments 😂
@@JaceHancock same lol
I'm amazed that such a small population state can churn out such high caliber wrestlers
He hooked his right leg which is legendary!!!!
He also hesitated with da first point!?! That's why I say fudge Iowa!!!
Bruh, I think I could have finished an entire game of monopoly during that review break 😂
🤣
They gotta make a better review system 😫
@@Cassirole13nah the review system is actually really good. Obviously isn't perfect but it leaves as we saw little room for mistakes.
Big night for University of Northern Colorado alumni. Wins for Andrew Alirez and Justin Gaethje
From a PSU guy, this is awesome and it’s awesome to N. Colorado win a title! He most certainly earned it!
Don’t forget Big Shane Carwin. Super stoked for the program.
@@MrToledo81 carwin went to western Colorado division 2 ! But is from the same town NCU is located in .
@@jacobfurlong420 that’s right, I don’t know why I thought he wrestled there.
Great job by the announcers pointing out how it should have been a 4 count. Gibbons pointing out how the ref moved while counting shows the attention to detail that made him a great coach. Burrows asking Roc to clarify. Excellent analysis. The the proper call was made.
Respect to Alirez for real. Stay downed and repped his city. Won it all.
Alirez is putting on for Colorado! Congrats champ 🏆
Great competitor
Ball don’t lie alirez earned those back points 💯
talked to him afew weeks ago at my son’s tournament. Great attitude and humble guy. He took the time to watch some youngsters wrestle while preparing for this moment.
The time spent on that review was ridiculous. If it takes that long, perhaps that's your signal not to overturn. I had no dog in this fight but who knows how else it affected the match dynamics.
17:30 woods said fuck it, in this moment 😂
Went for the flying squirrel
watched him wrestle when he came to Wyoming! glad he’s a champ! Mountain West champion!
One of the greatest matches ever in my opinion!
Deakin 🏆 in 2022
Alirez 🏆 in 2023
Colorado isn't looking so bad right now on the mat, is it?
Hell yeah! Schultz with the runner up as well in 22.
@@donroberts2115 Yep. And we have Daniel Cardenas now too.
Andrew Alirez unreal great body awareness stellar wrestler way to go young man stay in the fight and go out and get it champ
It looked like a lot of stalling in that last minute. I really wish they had better rules to keep the stalling from happening. In freestyle you lose a point if you go out of bounds.
It was 100% stalling, they didn’t call that but if you match up the time with the near fall… it wasn’t a full 4 seconds so it wasn’t a full 4 count, woods was definitely robbed of a title
@@crackshot3454quit meat riding, and I looked at it alright, 28 seconds is when the 2 got put up, 24 seconds is when woods was outa danger
@@crackshot3454the score is still 6-5 at that point. He still would need a takedown.
@@jomama969 or, if they had called his stalling at all like he had done multiple multiple times, he would been at 6-6, as well as they gave him more points for near fall than he deserved, so woods definitely deserved the win
@@crackshot3454 Easy to speculate. Alirez wouldn’t let himself get called twice for stalling with under a minute to go. He would pick up the pace and the entire final minute changes and we don’t know what would have happened. You can’t look at it from a vacuum and say nothing else changes if you throw 2 more stall calls at Alirez.
Rock on to Alirez and also kudos to the announcer. That's how to do a side-of-mat interview. Nice job.
I think it was a 4 count. One thing is for certain: I can’t wait to see them wrestle again.
Hell of a match 👏 🔥🔥
Putting Colorado on the map!
Well deserved by Alirez!! Even though the worst ref in the ncaa (angel) almost cost him the title
repping g town straight beast big win congrats
Nickerson is going to be one of the great ncaa coaches. He would have been top dog at Cornell if not for his injuries. He continues to build a small program into a great one.
This kid is a winner. Absolute stud. Greeley proud!!!
Great match! For wrestling to gain popularity something will need to be done so it's not as easy to sit on a lead.
Is the volume really bad on all the NCAA broadcast?
Completely shitty volume along with the referee’s calls
Great match! Congrats to UNCO!
Absolutely amazing teqnique
This was the best finals match hands down
I think rby vs vito was the best one
@@Auxz rby looked scared, it was weird
If there was a best match award during the tournament it would go to this match
The ref just stops swiping when alirez tossed him!!!
congratulations!!!! what did he let fly tho?
Woods was a NCAA Champ before going to Iowa.
G-Town baby!!! 970My lil Bro!!!! Keep on tearin shiz up my boy!! Get some gold for USA❤❤❤❤
The amount of stalling at the end is blasphemous
Definitely Alirez should've been hit with a point even if he goes on to win by 1. I think the ref was just scared after that long review fiasco.
He was smart. He could give up one for stalling and he would still be ahead.
It strategy, and it wouldn’t make a difference, Alirez had it won and was securing it the right way.
Lol so then what? He wins by 1...cool
Wow! What an AWESOME STORY!!!
Personally knowing real woods he used to come to my pool and swim we would wrestle and he would always beat me
This will be HUGE recruiting ammunition for UNCO.
7:24 that guy got a weird ass chop 😂😂😂
Why are NCAA wrestling reviews so long? At almost 7 and 1/2 minutes, this one was insane. But they routinely run several minutes. It's been this way the last couple of years and really affects the match.
Definitely 4 near fall. No question about it. And still after that long review The riding time was still wrong. Should have been lower.
I don't think so. His shoulders weren't past 45 for 4 counts. They missed it on this one.
@@b.b.5048 Yes and the Colorado wrestler stalled the majority of the match
Not a lot of stall calls in the finals esp In the last minute of matches when ppl usally stall
Eyyyy my alma mater finally got a (individual) wrestling title
What’s the song during the review of the call 😂I’ve heard it so many places
Proud of you boo. Way to make Greeley proud
Who else loved seeing woods get tossed around like that 😂
I remember Troy nickerson from Binghamton area. Hey man JP O'Connor from Oxford New York.
Tough tough kids. My God was that officiating tremendous 🙄
Wow , a call actually goes against Iowa. Might be the first one ever.
It's great that they can challenge but it does undermine the endurance aspect of the match.
Great match
Awesome. Congrats to Alirez. Go Bears!
Congratulations it’s awesome but last one before is from my hometown Fruita Colorado Jack Flasche
Everybody wants to be the Monday night quarterback when the thing is these dudes got in there and banged and did there thing and ALIREZ brought it home so sit the fuck back and give credit where it's due and Andrew sr. You must be so proud hell yeah .....GTown BABY🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉PAPAZ..
Bro was stalling at the end
And that’s nothing to complain about, everyone does it because it’s strategic and stall penalty wouldn’t do as much as a takedown if he didn’t stall.
970 in the House!!!!!
The volume on this tape is way too low. Someone needs some instruction.
He got caught slippin foo!!!😂😂😂😂😂
Whats funnny is that hawk fans were blasting penn state for Bartlett loosing a match to northern Colorado….just wondering if those hawk fans are laughing now??😂😂
Why post this video? You can't even hear anything. It's way too quiet.
Turn up the volume on your Bluetooth, just so it can almost blow out your eardrum when it switches to adds. I came to the comments wondering if anyone else is having this problem
Real one!! Nate Diaz Vibez haha
Awesome
never thought about ref technique
Okay some people haven’t watched this yet especially me being new and you guys put in the description of your video who won? Gotta do better
Way too long on the replay.
They need to get rid of the brick deal. Challenges arent made for wrestling totally ruins the conditioning and pace factor of a match
Imagine growing up being called "real"!! Lol
That first reversal is such a crap call😂😂
Final 2 teams reviled for superb owl 58 on sun 2 11 2024 cbs
Am I the only one that likes the independent review, buuut it takes way too long!
I find it ridiculous how us average spectators can call these "challenges" better than a committee of veteran refs. The review and over turning call should have taken 30 seconds tops.
I say don’t fake that big level channel. Big level change and go right off the bat. Be a great finisher.
Change.
5:50 woods totally locked hands I saw it
You can lock hands if the guy is exposed
That’s a legal locking position.
Near fall counts can be silent
hell yea colorado
Believe Believe Believe!
OMG that pink jacket is ridiculous. Lol.
Go Bears!!
Sorry, we never landed on the moon
Truth
Litty🔥
Having character , something Woods lacks of.
Angel is one of the best officials in the game. The announcer in the blue suit coat needs to not assume so much!
You can see how pissed Angel Rivera is that his call on the mat was overturned. Hes quite possibly the worst official in the NCAA currently. That goodness his poor officiating was overturned.
Not quite possibly. He is the worst ref in college wrestling!! As a psu fan, I've seen him enough to know he us terrible!!
@@j.r.dewyer7163 the fan base youre part of is irrelevant. Hes simply objectively awful and incompetent as an official. Its pathetic.
15:50 we not gonna talk about Alirez starting top position with a full-on tight-waist?
Exactly‼️ And he did it multiple times. The refs are so frickin inconsistent it boggles the mind
Just stop and give Alirez credit. He won fair and square.
@@yourdaddy6030 I never said he shouldn’t have won, it was just very obvious.
Not a tight waist. If the very bottom of your palm is at the belly button its cool. Received that clarification a few years ago from NCAA ref Jeff Cook.
Why didn’t Woods get back points??
When? He was given the right points every time.
The Woods arrogance and sense of entitlement cost him a NC. Alirez was just bigger, stronger and more intelligent. Woods refused to change his tactics. Very similar to Dayton Fix inability to understand at this level you need to be able to change and adapt when your opponent is bigger and stronger.
I'll admit: I wanted Real to win since he went to high school in Chicago, but when they showed him back stage, he just seemed so arrogant and too sure of himself, while Alirez was focused and getting ready. This time, Alirez deserved it more.
🇺🇸
No way that was 4. Real was closer to 90 than 45 degrees.
They always call it when it’s past 90. I know the rules say 45 but it’s never actually done.
@@thesneakygamer4343 Yes it is, maybe you should try watching it more than once a year casual.
@@randyh.7817 wrestled for several years and watch a ton of high school, college, and freestyle. My observation is when they break 90, they call near fall. Sorry for my “casual” opinion
Go Bears
Holy stall 😂
Should hv taken a point for stalling.
Since when they allowed to have beards??
Alirez = Stalllllller
Thankfully that totally annoying and distracting announcer isn’t flapping in the finals. Get rid of the announcer NCAA.
Which one?
He should’ve been hit for stalling
Woods wasn’t doing anything either.
Congrats woods gave up
Hearing people crying about stalling blows my mind if anybody is in alirez position your stalling makes absolute no sense to go on the offensive you’re gonna play defense I’m baffled by the low iq people in the comments
That's some entitled Iowa wrestling crap!!!!
That was not a 4 count.
Real Woods for the win!!!
He did what Jayden eiseman couldn't do
😂 you forgot to watch
.... Real Woods lost...
bro commented before even watching 💀
Nothing against Alirez, he did what he needed to win, but that is the worst championship officiating ever. They wouldn’t know stalling if it bit them in the ass…. Pushing out of bounds, holding on, and one offensive move the entire match…. Pathetic officiating….
Real woods robbed
