Yes he is a kingpin, he took over the underworld and filled it with drugs and goons.
But he is also a revolutionary, a man that wants to free his home from the clutches of an opressive government and create an independent nation.
And yet he would sacrifice everything, because he loves his daughter. He is a true father.
You cant call a man that loves his daughter and wants to free his people a one dimensional bad guy.
He is the villain of this story, of Vi's, Jayce's, Caitlyn's... But he is also the hero of his own and you can feel that, its very good writing.

Violent Schizophrenic, not psychopath, common misconception. Jinx has empathy to a certain degree, and does regret some of her actions, ergo can't be a psychopath.
She does however, have vivid audible and visual hallucinations, a hard time telling apart what's real from what are her hallucinations, violent tendencies, an EXTREMELY intelligent mind and the emotional maturity of a tween girl.
So again, violent schizophrenic, yes. Psychopath, no.

LMAO He basically runs the Undercity but the thought of him just yelling at Jinx for 30 mins and being forced to listen to "Get Jinxed" on repeat and having almost no power to stop it until he FINALLY does is somehow a smidge funnier😭

He shows up when she's spinning on the chair singing into the spinner. Then she's leaning over the workbench. Then she's looking at the blue prints, then she's looking through the magnifying glass at the firelight wing.
I think that in the time it took him to get her it's perfectly possible for her to spin on the chai then lean over to take the blueprints, look at them and then grab the magnifying glass to check/start working on the device.

So Jinx either has ADHD and can't focus, or has ADHD and was hyper-focused?

@@justaghostinthesea No, she has PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) and went insane due to her trauma. There's no ADHD here. ADHD stands for 'Attention Deficit with or without Hyperactivity Disorder'. In her case it's not an attention disorder, it's a trauma disorder.
Also, anyone can be in their own bubble. It's completely unrelated to ADHD.

In 24 years of existence and countless of anime I've watch, there is not a single anime that comes even close to the quality of the micro expressions shown in this masterpiece. You can basically watch the whole serie without sound and you can understand everything just by looking at their facial expression and their non verbal actions.

It kind of makes me sad because of memories though. I mean it's so typical of someone going through a manic episode. I remember asking my loved one about the harmful consequences of their actions several times while they had a manic episode. They were proud of their actions and didn't really seem to understand or care that I/others were hurt. It was really upsetting, knowing how gentle and considerate this person is usually. It's painful when you see someone you care about change so much. Arcane is so well-written and it pays attention to detail.

He didn't had that look before he met her. At that moment he was about to kill her. But when he saw her crying cause she was left by her sister, he saw himself in her. He was not the same since that moment. He said we'll show them, WE will show them all". He realized he's not alone anymore.

Silco was a wonderful father to Jinx. He gave her unconditional love til the very end. Even when she killed him, he still tried to smile for her after he called her perfect. T~T After re watching the show, Silco really was the only positive reinforcement Jinx ever had in her life. And looking at everything she had, you can tell Silco tried to spoil her rotten. Even keeping the mug and ash tray she made him in his office. Jinx was desperate to be useful to him, yet she failed to realize how much Silco actual loved her. Only as he was dying, did she believe/realize his previous praises and assurances.

Also take note of his body language; he's fully aware of her desire for affection being her adoptive father, and once she presents the gem to him, he softens as he realizes she must have undergone a crisis earlier following her mistakes, and this act is essentially an apologetic expression of love.

@@heartshapedlace I wouldn't say manipulation, more like *projection.* From meeting her to his death, Silco honest-to-God believed every word he said to Jinx. All his lectures and lessons to Jinx were his way of raising her, but his values themselves are wrong. And he projects everything he is and has been through to her. The only time that Silco acted for himself was when he learned that Vi was in the Lanes and hunted her behind Jinx's back. Even then, Silco believes everything he said about Vi because to him she's just a carbon copy of Vander.

The show does a fantastic job with body language

Yes, she wanted to prove that she was capable (as she did with Vi)… to Silco.
With “not to prove anything” I mean that she didn’t do it for glory or general approval. Only for the approval of Silco.
A consistent character trait of her, is that she heavily clings to a particular person and makes that person her whole world.
In her Powder days that was Vi, which lateron changed to Silco.

..annnd in trying to please silco and prove she isnt weak, she attacks the square and sparks the rest of the conflict between Piltover and Zaun/the Undercity. She was the inciting incident for the rest of the season
if she doesnt attack the square, jayce never gets on the council, and that means Catlin get the order to free Vi.

In the scene before she does the attack, she worried that he thinks she’s weak and she says “I’ll show him”. I think she was trying to make him see that she wasn’t broken and useless. But this scene does make it seem like it turned into more of a gift for him less than something to prove.

There's no real villain. Silco is portrayed as the main antagonist just bc the series is about Vi and Jinx (mainly). The people from Piltover have their beliefs and they act based on that. The same happens for every character. Everybody has enemies.

They were still bad guys, but they weren't monsters.

Yeah, and while Silco is the villain and everyone fears him in some way, jinx doesn't. This bad guy figure doesn't has any effect on her, like she knows he wouldn't hurt her

I think the biggest thing to notice is the way Jinx was so comfortable to not listen or even act immaturely and not take Silco seriously. Especially since Vi got angry at her when she was young and also hit her for killing people on accident, this would normally traumatize kids and fear their parents being angry at them, but Jinx wasn't afraid of Silco being mad at her or scolding her. She isn't even scared when Silco took her pen away showing he's more angry now. This just showed how patient he's been with her and how he's been raising her and it also showed how comfortable she is with him.

I loved that as well, they made all her mental breakdowns look very realistic, from the way she was moving until the way she was breathing , voice actors in this show were incredible ,I struggle with schixzophrenia and manic depression myself but unlike Jinx, I take medications and can function quite well, but I can totally sympathize with the character and I never expected that because I was never really big fan of Jinx , never understood what is the appeal but now I totally understand and she is definetly my favorite soo far from Arcane, never would have expected her story to be soo tragic either , would want to give her a hug, but she probably wouldnt let me :D

Well, Harley is defined by the Joker, but Jinx is her own character, defined by her own acts, she defined herself, and it’s even more clear in the final episode, the difference between her and Harley is like oil and water

Sometimes I don't even think that Silco is the bad guy. He has a bad way of doing things, yes. But he's doing whatever it takes to try to achieve the undercity's independence because the overcity is abusive and negligent. He had the best intentions for the city but just had a bad way of getting it done.

Silco is a classic case of doing the wrong thing for the right reasons. He's manipulative, cold, cunning, and willing to make sacrifice after sacrifice in order to save the majority, but he only became a monster for the sake of his people. The way I see it there are no real villains in Arcane. Everyone had their reasons and circumstances for doing the things they did.

Himerdinger, who I believe is the oldest member of the council sitting at well over 300 years under his belt (if I'm correct) was genuinely surprised to see the Undercity in the condition that it was. The problem that the council had was that they just saw what the Undercity did, but they never stopped to consider why they did it. Which is something a lot of people in the show on all sides do, and it's a very, very, VERY common habit in real life too.

Well, in a way Jinx, or Powder at the time, was Silco's re-run. She wanted to help her people the only way she knew how and her sister left her to die for trying. Silco wanted to help his people the only way he knew how and his brother left him to die for trying.

the scene where vi “abandons” powder and then silco finds her crying is so powerful. this child has just lost literally everything and just needs someone to love her, and silco, while being a crimelord, is still a person who sees a crying child in need. he comforts her and takes her in. it just all feels so human.

I love how she does the "teenage girl getting scolded" thing where she lays her head on her arm and goes back to doodling, forcing Silco to take her pen. Arcane is a masterpiece.

He's an easy guy to just hate until you see how much he actually loves Jinx.

@@jennagarcia9411 Yeah. Silco was a trashbag of a human being. He definitely emotionally manipulated Jinx by socially isolating her and reinforcing her feelings of abandonment and betrayal. He doesn't get a pass for that shit but I do think he genuinely believed he was doing what was best for Zaun in a sort of Machiavellian no-holds-barred way. I also believe that coaching Jinx to become dangerous and volatile was the only way he knew he could help her survive the deadly jungle of the undercity.
I do believe he genuinely loved her but I am not suggesting they had a healthy relationship at all.

It was an unhealthy relationship. Silco was an enabler, he saw potential in how vulnerable Jinx was. After she thought Vi abandoned her, most of her loyalty went toward Silco because he was all she had left. Silco saw this and used it to manipulate her to getting what he wanted. It's apperent he truly did care for Jinx, but his love toward her was twisted. Up until his final words he was trying to make Jinx into what he wanted her to be.

It may not be important to her, but to Jinx, Silco was just as important as Vi, and Vi can't even see that, can't see her pain and regret for killing Silco, she has ZERO empathy for her ACTUAL sister, she only cares about own image of her little sister that she forcefully projects on Jinx. SHE is the toxic one, not Silco.

For silco perception, he learn by marcus that Vi was imprisoned during all this year and Caitlin free her ? he can supposed that Caitlin is after the stone because she is a enforcer and the position of this family that it and marcus.
For Vi case , he already know what she want her sister why ? because Vi fight sevika and asked her "where jinx is" that it, she's never asked for the stone and sevika had of course talk in detail his interaction with vi and that was no good at all, she is clearly not a fan of him for obvious reasons
Caitlin did not even know who had stole the stone ( marcus clearly said everything that silco need to know about her and he never said to Caitlin that jinx is responsible for the incident )

Vi did not see his sister for many years, she don't know what she become during his absence until she sees again, jinx said to vi that she change and Vi don't care but to be fair she still don't know how much she change until she saw his face when they fight ekko group. After ekko also talk to Vi how Jinx is not the same anymore and work for silco by choice who had kill many members of his group.
So what his the choice of Vi ?
resonate his sister maybe because she become a murder who even kill innocent people and work for the guy who responsible for the death of her step-father ( vander ), indirectly responsible for the death of her step-brother, people of group ekko and virtually want to make the war against pitover ( Vi already know the consequence of a war like that and don't want that happens) so yeah it seem she had a valid reason.
So I don't know what is you problem for said that Vi don't care about jinx when she clearly do even after learn what she become, even after she try to incite him to kill Caitlin.

Silco couldn't know for sure just based on that. On the bridge, Vi literally prioritized returning gemstone to the Piltover over Jinx. Jinx is not a "crazy maniac", she has hallucinations - yes, but she integrated them in her life. She controls them, to a certain degree. And she'd be long dead without them.

I can't believe you call Jinx "crazy" based on her shooting that "innocent" girl. She was a firelight, AN ENEMY, how is it so hard to understand? Not to mention that she and the rest of Ekko's dogs were the aggressors in that situation, they were the ones who initiated the fight, not Jinx. So no, that girl wasn't "innocent". She chose to participate in a war against Silco's organization (which Jinx is a part of), her job was to destroy the cargo that Jinx was supposed to protect, and she DID destroy it. That's not "innocent", it's called being on the other side of the conflict, and dying for the cause. She knew what she signed up for, same way that boy at the factory did, when Jayce killed him. That boy wasn't "innocent" either.

@@aez2259 Even though Jinx grew up into a teenager, mentally she is still a child. Hence why she is very clingy to Silco. It feels weird to the audience to watch it because as a society, we expect children to "mature" and become less dependent. But both of these characters definitely do not see each other as romantic partners or anything. They just have an out of the ordinary father-daughter relationship.

They definitely aren't sexual with each other. In fact the animation has a lot of visual storytelling to it, like how extremely comfortable Jinx is jumping on his lap. It's like there's still a child in there, stuck in a young adult's body. It never got to live out its childhood because of trauma and being forced to become a ruthless killer instead of getting to be a child. But none of that is sexual. It's sad. Because she *should* have grown out of that phase by this point, but hasn't. She doesn't even really seem to have any notion of romance or sex. If she did, she'd definitely not be as comfortable getting physical with Silco, a man who isn't even related to her.
Silco really does just view her as his daughter, and Jinx is a traumatized young adult who's still acting like a little girl around the only anchor she's got, the only parental figure she has. It's wholesome to see, but sad when you realize why it's like that.

I mean... when the rebellious daughter had her childhood and the scolding dad is a violent crimelord this is more or less how it would look XD
