What's even MORE amazing is that she sang this live on the set, ofcourse this is the studio version but she actually belted this while they were recording the scene. I'm also sure they blended some of the live vocals with the studio vocals! All the actors were shocked and I don't blame them! Meryl streep is one of the best actrices and singers out there!

Huh, I just realized that later in the song she sings that “The Post once said she was too old to play Eva Perón.” It’s funny because of two things:
1) Meryl Streep was almost cast Eva Perón in the movie Évita.
2) Streep also played Katherine Graham, the former publisher of The Post in the movie The Post.

Early in Meryl Streeps career, Bette Davis gave a very disparaging interview about her co star. I never understood the reason for the toxicity, but in the years since Meryl Streep has turned out so many incredible performances. Her range which hasn't included many singing roles, yet she surpasses herself in role after role. She brings to each role something fresh or unique as an interpretation or delivery of the character. The prom is no exception, when you have to ask "Who is that?" it's clear how diverse and unpredictable the catalogue of Meryl Streep is and continures to become.
It was actually Katharine Hepburn who disliked Meryl's work. Bette Davis was very complimentary. You're absolutely right, though. This week, Meryl has had two films released, The Prom and Let Them All Talk, and her performances in both are exquisite, yet the characters couldn't be more different. That's the mark of a superlative artist.
Meryl's Art-see Fart-see Book to Film Reference....The Miracle Worker, the SURPRISE Oscar Winning performance by a 16 year old actress that Bette Davis and Joan Crawford DIDN'T do, and was showcased in R. Murphy's one and only FEUD season! What Happened? R.I.P. Olivia DeHaviland!
Bette Davis sent Meryl a letter that said that she believed Meryl would be her successor as the Queen of Hollywood, basically, and thus she became. Bonus points for the singing ability.
Unfortunately I am disadvantaged by the fact the interview was so long ago, I'm guessing late 80's. The comment is what stays with me when ever I see Meryl Streep and my not relating to the truth or toxicity of it. I'd like to find the interview again to refresh my memory.
