    0:35 - the absolute reference look of a human who cannot be bought, trying to be bought by someone she neither trusts nor respects. Not sure who the young actress in this, but she absolutely nailed this scene.

    Seeing both of the scenes one right after the other makes u realise how great Scorcese really is ,not only in creating both of the scenes , but for leaving the chance for some of us to find out that these rather separate pieces can only become greater when they get linked to each other . A master

    I think the the door being left open a little bit is Frank basically wanting someone to come take him out. It can be interpreted in multiple ways, but I think he's waiting for death.
    I also love the correlation between the first Christmas scene and this one. It's brilliant.

    • @louistehrani4093
      @louistehrani4093 3 년 전 +1

      Interesting interpretation, I always thought it was a way to show how frank has changed and how his softer side has come out since all of his loved ones have gone away and no one is watching anymore to impress.

    • @billionairepayday3459
      @billionairepayday3459 3 년 전 +1

      I always thought it was a way of showing how lonely Frank has become as a consequence of the life he was a part of. Here he's left alone on Christmas in dead silent. He asks for the door to be left open incase someone does show up but nobody ever does. The doorway is opened only slightly to a man who is small, lonely and stuck somewhere similar to that of a jail cell that he is too old to leave.

  • @goodkidbarry
    @goodkidbarry 3 년 전 +31

    Reason why Frank leaves his door a little open at the end is because that is what Jimmy used to do when he was about to go to sleep

      Naman Shah The reasons Tigon mentioned, plus the difference in his life as an old man. A huge theme in the movie is growing old and the pain of living with your choices over the years, and looking at the first clip in constrast to the second.. Frank/DeNiro just becomes old and very lonely as a result of his life choices

      Some parts were eh, like the scene where he beats up the grocery clerk. It looked horrible but then again it's a really small reason to hate the entire movie. I think this movie wasn't as good as other Scorsese movies, but it's not bad either. And I think a lot of people don't like it because of the theory of how Hoffa was killed. But tbh, Hoffa's death in this movie seems like it was the most plausible.

    As far as I know this was never in the book. Nobody ever mentioned how Russell got along with children. He never had kids. He had many nieces and nephews. I dimly recall a special needs nephew who lived in New York State and who needed support. This was a trivial thing for Russell.
    Peggy was angry at Frank Sheeran, but only later on. She abandoned him because she became convinced that he murdered Jimmy Hoffa.
    She might have been upset that he was not there in her life too. He was "running with the crowd in Downtown" early in her life.
    One can see the real live Russell Bufalino being grilled in court. He does not seem like a bad man.
