I don’t know about it. If there was more development behind her character it would have landed better. It wasn’t mentioned at all before and then it’s never mentioned again. Makes it seem like a cop out. Lazy writing in my opinion

I full on burst into uncontrollable tears when she said that with no explanation as to why. Genuinely couldn’t stop crying but I wasn’t crying for any reason other than the fact that it made me upset
Molly Pinks I agree. You don't necessarily have to mention her dad, but just any development of her character would be great. When I watched the film I was rooting for her and Emma of course, and was happy they got a happy ending, but I'd just like to root for someone that feels more real.

Can we talk about how brilliant Ariana’s acting is in this movie ?! I mean her singing, dancing and everything else was also amazing obviously but every scene with her felt SO real like i’m not an emotional person but every time she was on screen i was really in the feels !!!

I just want to say that the casting team did an amazing job putting Ariana and Kerry as mother and daughter. They look so similar and if I saw a photo of them together without knowing it was from this movie, I would say they were related in some way

Yeah, but the point might be that she doesn't always achieve that blue ribbon, so she's always being pushed to do better. And even if she does get a blue ribbon, she still has to do more.
She says blue ribbon as a reference to blue ribbons being exclusive to 1st place but most medals and ribbons aren't only blue anymore that's probably why they're different colors.

I've seen a lot of comments about how they hated Emma for braking up with Alyssa and no, they both have their reasons and they are both valid. I'm going to be talking about Emma, she wasn't forcing Alyssa to come out but some of y'all don't know how hard it is to be in a relationship like that, be constantly hiding and with the fear of anyone discovering your secret.
They are both right, nobody is the “bad” person in this relationship.

@@samrobles471 is not only singing but also acting and such plus y'all won't like it but Ariana Debose has a stronger voice than Ariana especially for Elphaba. Elphaba ain't a character just anyone that sings good can play it takes a lot for it. Cuz Ariana didn't really made Penny feel like Penny ( it felt like Ariana grande dressing up as Penny) in the hairspray live. And penny is an easier character to portray than Elphaba. Ariana grande could do an amazing Glinda honestly speaking.
@@samrobles471 I do agree to some extent. I think her cover of "The Wizard & I" was amazing and blew me away. However it did sound like it was turned into a pop song, which is fine because it was her version. However for such a huge not very modernly styled broadway musical, that pop cover would just not work well. I also think Ariana Grande, while having a broadway background, has more of a pop voice and kind of evolved into this pop voice (which nothing wrong with that but again for a musical such as Wicked her style would just not work). And I believe that if Ariana was to keep her pop-sounding voice and be casted, a lot of people (including myself) would be upset. Also Elphaba is also an emotionally demanding character and Ariana's acting is good, but personally I don't feel it's the most amazing. Ariana Debose, as we have seen, can do these super emotional scenes and out of the two, I would pick Ariana Debose (if you disagree tho, totally cool)

Ariana’s acting was amazing in this!! She was very relatable and I’m sure many kids, including myself, related to Alyssa’s character. Be it coming out, or wanting something else besides the life your parents want you to lead you know your parents work hard to give you the life you have so you don’t want to disappoint them. I loved her performance both in Hamilton and in The Prom and I can’t wait to see her in West Side Story!!

Staying in the closet isn't ideal for Alyssa but she feels like she has to be perfect or she'll disappoint her mom, someone who she still cares about despite everything. Then on top of that she's also trying to juggle a relationship with Emma. Now, I am glad Emma broke up with Alyssa because her feelings are completely valid too and she was no longer comfortable having their relationship be a secret. Secret relationships only work if both partners agree and are comfortable with it but even then keeping it a secret can only last so long. Emma wasn't pressuring Alyssa to come out by breaking up with her, she was merely saying that they no longer see eye to eye on keeping their relationship a secret and that's okay but their different view points make it difficult to be in a relationship together so the break up was a good call. It's just a sucky situation for both of them seeing as they are still in love but it had to be done. So for all the couples like this in the world support your partner if they are in the closet but only as far as you are comfortable with. You deserve to be happy in the relationship too.

i really related to this song because im a supposed child prodigy, succeeding in all but really i do it because i cant face disappointment from my parents. my parents are somewhat christian and my brother and sister straight but i'm bisexual and in the closet. long hair is a must from my mom until my sister disobeyed the unspoken rule for the warren women and cut my hair. my mom is still upset about how i stand out in my family of russian dolls. i commented on my weight and how much sugar i consume every time a crumb is so much near my mouth. its made me insecure and i've developed anxiety from it.

This is a very well written lyric, I must admit I did not expect it to be this good of a song. I really really liked it. Had I still been an auditioning girl, I would most likely have considered adding this to my repertoire
The ONLY plot hole I found in this movie was that Alyssa's mom didn't find it the tiniest bit suspicious that her daughter, who she demanded perfection out of, didn't have a straight date to the prom. She was just totally okay with her going stag....to the prom.
This is the woman who said she had to win homecoming queen. And in that scene clearly had a date since the king was wearing the same color as her.
