- Chess has never been as alluring as how it's presented in The Queen's Gambit. The miniseries follows a chess prodigy by the name of Beth Harmon, played by Anya Taylor-Joy. Orphaned at a young age, she soon discovers she has a serious knack for the game of chess, and she goes on to become one of the finest players in all the world. It's captivating material, and there are a few similar movies that deal with the same themes. If you still need your fix of competitive sports and talented geniuses, check out these great movies.
Anyone in the midst of a chess kick will definitely want to check out 2019's The Coldest Game. It follows a math genius named Joshua Mansky who gets roped into a high-stakes chess match between the United States and the Soviet Union after the previous American competitor ends up dead. The movie is set in 1962 when tensions resulting from the Cold War are at an all-time high. American spies capture Joshua to get him into this tournament in what turns into a proxy war between the two global superpowers.
The Coldest Game earned positive acclaim when it first came out on the festival circuit, and now it's ready to heat up your queue all over again.

I will watch anything with Anya taylor joy in it
Thoroughbreds is great. It’s got the girl from Ready Player One/Sound of Metal and Anton Yelchin in it as well.
I’d recommend The VVitch, but I’m sure you’ve already heard of/seen it.

I never watched any of Anya Taylor Joy's movies/shows, but after seeing this mini series I'm definitely going to see her other works.

They didn’t mention Pawn sacrifice :/
The Speed Cubers is definitely worth a watch.
Searching for Bobby Fischer....The speed Chess part made me think of this instantly.
Netflix needs to start acquiring actual good films again... they only care about TV. Most of these films pale in comparison to the Queens Gambit and the majority of them don’t even really correlate.
Reply 1988. It's on Netflix, too. It's Baduk (or "Go") instead of Chess. It's an ensemble story. But there is an achingly beautiful baduk player among the leads.
Confession of a Dangerous Mind has a similar feel to Queen’s Gambit
AnyaTaylorJoy ❤❤❤❤❤
I haven't seen gambled queen yet but I dunno if it catches my interest yet..
it’s suchhh a good show ! it’s different idk it is about chess but there’s so much more about it . it lowkey makes me want to play it lol
it's a really good series. try to watch first 2 or 3 episodes. i only watch bcs i want to get drawing references ended up watching the whole series and not drawing at all.
March Comes in Like a Lion (Sangatsu no Lion) is a great anime series that is about a teenager pro shogi player (Japanese chess). It shares many themes with the Queen’s Gambit, like young orphan kids surviving through their respective sports (chess for Beth, shogi for Rei), finding meaning and connection, and discovering themselves through great struggles and many life experiences. I highly recommend it.
This youtube channel clearly have not watched any anime yet ... lets ssuggest some :D
"He Knows Good Breeding!!!!"
I love this
Searching For Bobby Fischer? No? Jeez
Woke chess show, sounds lame
