NJH didn’t make an impression on me till this drama. In Start-Up, his expression has many faces, which is interesting to watch. Nerdy, boyish, masculine (after success in US), vulnerable (after breakup with DM), tender (with family, friends, esp girlfriend), uncertain (especially asking DM why she likes him). As for Suzy, she is flawless!
Then you should watch his 2 dramas the light in your eyes and school nurse files. He did an amazing job there and his level of acting is the same as in start-up. I do agree about what you said, you noticed the same thing as me, he nailed his roles as dosan

Well nam joo hyuk was personally picked to play Nam Do San by the critically-acclaimed writer of startup because of his performance in the Light In Your Eyes.
He was also chosen by the screenwriter and director of Josee to play the lead because of Light in your eyes.
You should check it out. I think that series really made NJH stood out especially in Korea

Nam joo hyuk is full of innocence and charisma
I like director Han but Nam Do San is the best Kdrama character I have ever seen in a long time. I usually never have fav male characters because they all somehow resemble each others (while they are great they are not iconic). Nam Do San is different. He is a breath of fresh air. Dorky but genius. Hilarious but sincere. Kind but realistic. He keeps surprising me in every scene and I love every second of this drama mainly because of him and the rest of the great cast. Heck everything about this drama is great. I feel blessed to watch it and wish it never ends.

I don't remember seing Han Ji Pyeong character in other korean dramas either. He's also very smart and ready to help if he can, but at the same time distant and cautious not to get hurt in the process because he'll be left alone again if something goes wrong. So all in all he's looking for the most painless way to find a familly for himself, but he'll ultimately suffer for such approach. He's not somebody that tried until now to "use his money" to get the girl of his dreams like in so many other korean dramas, which is also a breath of fresh air, not that it'll work with Dal Mi but still... They are both well thought caracters that are experiencing and still need a lot of
personal development. That's why I think that the creators should have taken a different approach to develop all the characters evenly trough all the episodes and not leave the most crucial part for the last 2 episodes. All the characters had so much potential and the time would not be enough, they'll skip interesting moments to show us the final picture.
We all can save ourselves from being disappointed if we collectively accept the fact that this was a rather character driven and not a plot driven show.
NJH played another unique character named Baek Yi Jin from Twenty-five, Twenty-one. I heard that the BYJ in the script and drama are really different since NJH added his personal touch on the character.
I hope Nam Joo Hyuk and Suzy do photoshoots together and play jenga like other actors. I hope THE SWOON can share more videos about them.

Honestly, I love Do-san's character more than Ji-Pyeong's. Why? Because he has a rather very imperfect character which you don't usually see in kdramas but always do in real life. He is a nerd who's soft spot is holding onto others' kind words, and he definitely has the most human approach to every situation he's going through. The most genuine character I've seen after watching several dramas in my entire life!

jipyeong is imperfect character too, i think more imperfect. he is an orphan, never be loved by anyone in his life. broke as hell when he still in high school. have emotional issue due to lack of love. but with all of those problem, he still try to working hard to get a good life and he still a good boy..
@@ilyichelgar4493 I agree. But Ji-pyeong is the typical rich guy character with personal problems which is commonly seen in kdramas. On the other hand, Do-san is a more unique one - a very specific type of person rarely but vividly-portrayed in this drama and absolutely true-to-life.

I liked both but I realize that Do-San fit Dalmi and they were the best match. However I still loved Ji-pyeong and wouldn’t mind seeing a spin-off of his character even though I know kdramas don’t do that lol

Nam joohyuk and suzy both are so good looking. The typical beauty that's comforting/peaceful to look at, giving off similar vibes like flowers idk how to describe them precisely. Anyway they delivered superb acting & chemistry in start up. I've watched some of their projects before SU i think start up is definitely their best chemistry so far. Cant help it bcs they looks so good together.

In this interview, we can see that Suzy is really mature and charismatic, she's calm, have a soft voice, always smiling, funny, and her laugh is precious. Same here, there’s still that thirst that we haven’t completely quench. Idk, maybe because when this drama premiered all I could remember was the toxic battle bet. teamdosan and teamjipyeong. I was hurting for Do San back then because of the backlash that his character got from some immature fans when we were supposed to just enjoy watching it. Some even took it personally and hated NJH for real. Like ugh! I had to stopped at ep 7 and resumed watching it after 3 mos. because I felt bad for how this drama and the reaction of others turned out disappointing. Can we please have another drama from them and eherm excluding a possible annoying second lead character. But all in all, it’s just their chemistry still has a lot to offer and explore.

Nam jo hyuk is honestly so handsome. I have always wanted them to end up together rather than her ending up with hjp. Although his character is very emotional, I felt like dosan loved dalmi way too much than hjp. Also nam jo hyuks character was very unique. And not to mention the most adorable ever.
