I saw Flying Lotus at a grocery store in Los Angeles yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.
He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”
I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying.
The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.
When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

@@Monocheto1 Yes. Portuguese came to Japan do some trading, as they did periodically during this time period, and they went to meet with Nobunaga. Nobunaga saw Yasuke and immediately asked why this man's skin was painted black. When the Jesuits tried to explain to him that it was his natural skin color, he didn't believe them and ordered to have him scrubbed for an hour to remove the paint. After that when he realized that apparently humans did come in such colors he decided to buy Yasuke's contract from the Portuguese and even gave him his new name. Supposedly after Yasuke learned to converse in Japanese, Nobunaga became quite fond of him as he was supposedly a good conversationalist and really strong, so he made him a samurai and gave him the position of swordbearer/spearbearer (can't remember which).
Eventually, after Nobunaga was killed at Honnouji, Yasuke still loyally served his son Nobutada, until they were captured by the forces of Mitsuhide. Nobutada was forced to commit seppuku, but Yasuke was not on account of (according to some sources) the samurai claiming that he "wasn't a person" and therefore didn't need to preserve his honor through suicide. So he was exiled and placed on a ship, where he supposedly was shipped off to India, but there sadly isn't enough informaiton to corroborate whether he arrived there or not.

Not to mention there are not many African-Japanese people. Japanese people also don't care about race and politics as much. So, Yasuke will always be semi discreet. Yasuke may have been the first black Samurai, but's he's also (one of) the last black ones. Not counting post-Meiji Samurai, who are more like modern Knights; they don't hold much of anything and they're more there to respect the ways of the old. When it comes down to it, they're irrelevant.

Buddha Statues being painted black has nothing to do with ethnicity or race, it's ties to Metaphysics of Mahayana to Vajrayana sects of Buddhism, whereas most of Japanese Buddhist schools are from Vajrayana Sect and has emphasis of depicting boundless Emptiness (Shunyata) of The Buddhas and Boddhisattvas as dark empty or blue sky

Thats the reason l have been waiting to watch Yasuke. Look like the story will start after Nobunaga's death. There is a scene Nobunaga commit suicide in honnoji temple in fire which is ended up Yasuke's nightmare. Too bad l want see how he met Nobunaga.

@@karmabhutia1012 point being that mappa studio's animation, especially relating to their fight scenes, aren't nearly as detailed or epic as those done by wit studios. Compare the fights scenes between the beast titan and Levi from attack on Titan season 3 and four for a proper illustration.

Yeah so was I. I believe that Yusuke was actually a Ethiopian Warrior also known as Shotelai or the Elite Warriors. The reason his name is Yasuke because its based off the Ethiopian name Yisuke. The Portuguese were allied with the Ethiopians and they needed a interpreter to speak the different languages of Asia. This is how Yasuke or Yisuke travels to Japan. I would've definitely preferred to see a story that shows both Yasuke and Oda Nobunga lives before and once they met.

He wasn't a slave apparently read the book by Thomas Lockley a researcher and expert of Japanese history who studied Yasuke's life story. Yasuke was a warrior before he came to Japan, it believed he was a Habishi warrior (African soldier in India). So he was a trained warrior who worked as a bodyguard or enforcer. Yes Habishi warriors were slaves at first however, many became free men who gained alot of power and influence in the region of India called the Deccan the most famous being Malik Ambar. So Yasuke most likely was a mercenary and bodyguard for the Jesuits not a random slave.

actually dororo is a collab with tezuka production (which is a semi-decent studio but not reputed for its animation) that's why some of dororo animation were a little bad but the episodes that mappa have done were godtier

@名無しさん it's not the same. Black face refers to a different colored person painting themselves black to portray a black character. Black voice is referring to an actual black person doing the voice. This is important since before other colored people (typically caucasians) would do the voice over.

I actually prefer it this way. I absolutely hate getting trailers for things that either are not complete or 7 months in advance. Also they promote their shows on their app specifically to people with similar tastes to the current product their peddling.
