I think it might be a reference to the "iron maiden" demon that has appeared in earlier SMT games, in fact the head design is nearly identical to the SMT design.

Its crazy, they actually put him in his own game back in 2017, but I think they were saying in nintendo to see their ideas.

Well I consider the Shadows to be a physical representation of a person's own demons so defeating those demons and that negativity shouldn't do harm to the person lol

@@guthetanuki256 A generic shadow lorewise is supposed to be a demon from the mainline games but degenerated into a shadow state. However the "other self" shadows are rooted in jungian psychology where it's not exactly an "inner demon" but rather a part of yourself in general that you don't want to admit to, It's not always negative. However I guess the easiest and laziest way to write a shadow is that it is a bad part of a person.

@@ils4844 I'm not talking about one's own shadow as I know what they are supposed to represent spiritually as well as within the context of the game. I'm talking about the Shadows that exist within someone's spirit. Not their own inner demons brought from their shadow self but from the world around them, the negativity, the energy. Those two aren't mutually exclusive. Because a shadow self isn't necessarily negative as you say.
What I'm saying is that the way I like to view it is that a regular old generic Shadow is a person's negativity or energy that isn't necessarily a part of them as in it is not their "self" but still exists within them if that makes sense.
Like for example you can have negative thoughts and feelings but that isn't you as you are as a person. I'd like to imagine the Shadows of Persona 5 in particular are a physical representation of that concept.
I'm suggesting a possibility that these Shadows exist as separate entities separate from a cognition which could also affect a person. I could be wrong but that's the way I like to see it.

The lore behind them is that they're demons from the mainline series called "Shin Megami Tensei" brought into existence by "human observation" which then the "Axiom" or "Great Will" would mold their observations and ideas into physical representations of religious deities. These demons were part of the early Persona games up until the big baddie of P2 was taken out. This started to push the demons into a degenerative state where they became the masked blobs we see in P3 and P4 (as noted in P2 EP's Tatsuya scenario). These could represent negativity which probably makes some sense since they're not truly demons anymore. However with P5 it seems like shadows have started to reform themselves back into demons. Given what certain characters have said (Jose in P5R mainly), it seems like this isn't just for gameplay reasons, but for rather something much larger at hand. All of this gobbledegook generally makes me excited for what Megaten has in store for the future.

@@ils4844 Oh I know where the demons are from. I know all about Mega Ten and the relation to the earlier Persona games just not too much about the specifics when it comes to the lore aspect as I haven't played every single SMT game yet. But I think I was trying to make that correlation too similar to you:
that the Shadows of Persona 5 have grown back into the actual demons of SMT that exist separately within someone's cognitive world. Which makes sense because in a lot of ways, Persona 5 is the game that feels the most like an SMT game after P2. So it makes sense they want to take it in that direction.
I think the Shadows are not being born from a person's cognition as P5 suggests at first because of Royal and how much it changed the way that whole cognitive world works especially at the end. I think these Shadows exist as separate entities brought upon by something else that retook their forms as the demons of SMT.
I think that's what you were getting at for a bit, correct? My bad just trying to make sure I got it because all of it is very interesting but could get a tad confusing lol.

There is an in universe explanatiom for this. When persona users are dormant in their activities, their personas weaken and lose their evolved forms. It's like muscle training. The same thing happened to the P4 cast in Persona 4 Arena but not to the cast from Persona 3 since they continued fighting

@@Taker369 that's both, the sequel of P5 and P5 Royal, like Arena is the Sequel for P4 and P4 Golden, we will have an other Persona 5 spin-off that reintroduce Sumire and Akechi like P4 did for P4AU, Royal and Golden are the complete version of they OG games.

Well I mean it has less to do with Nintendo and more with Atlus.
I agree with what you're saying but Mainline persona likely has some sort of deal with sony and even then this game sold horribly on switch in japan so unless something happens and it sells better in the east than the west by a truly significant amount, Atlus won't even consider it.
But look on the bright side Persona 4 Pc can run on lower-end Windows laptops with no issues so you're not out of options if you're willing to use things other than switch.

You might have some story loophole problems if you haven’t played P5 or P5R. Because they will be referring a lot of things from the base game. P5 Royal is really worth it though so I absolutely recommend playing that one as well. 😉😇🎮👍🏻

Look at it this way. Strikers is a sequel to P5 so the sprites reflecting that universe makes sense given P5R is separate universe which could be signified by the new sprites and such.
