I've never died so much playing Metroid, it's hard but fun
When more hard the more fun.
it's hard, but you're always getting that little bit closer or better each try. That is the key. Some games are just really hard and you're not even sure what's going on or how to improve.
I remember Samus Returns being super hard too.
I think the idea is that you use the melee counter to kill the enemies which in turn gives you a lot of health and missiles back.
I swear I died like 4 times to the first EMMI
I died an embarrassing amount of times to Kraid, his fight is so unforgiving
This'll be my first time with an actual metroid game so I'm excited!

I loved the metroid prime games
I keep finding myself stopping just to admire the level designs and atmosphere in this game. Mercury Steam and Nintendo have done an amazing job. It's been a very long time since I've played a platformer and let alone a Metroid game since Metroid Fusion and Samus Returns. This game is challenging and fun as I expected. Can't wait for more future 2D Metroid titles along with the Prime 4 game and any other projects they may have for the franchise.
I'm excited for Prime 4, as well. After playing the Prime trilogy, I'm super pumped for this one!
I'm still a little on the fence about design. It started off feeling kinda sterile and empty, but the more I play the more I find myself stopping and admiring the backgrounds, the lighting, and little touches of life. There are some very pretty rooms in Dread.
Edit: I've finished 100% on my first playthrough, and I feel like I can say with certainty that the emptiness of the first area is very deliberate. It gives you space to recognize your character, the enemies and everything you interact with. By the time you get to Ghavoran, not only is there tons of detail and color, but movement, effects and life- just sitting there in the background. And the high contrast dark spaces of blank foreground open up really dramatically when you discover new secret areas and tunnels and it's really satisfying.

I can say that the EMMI sections are extremely tense and finally shutting one of the not broken ones down felt so good
IKR! I love the EMMI zones! They add a really nice tension to the game and if you get caught and successfully escape their grasp, it is soooooo satisfying! Plus as you said, finally getting the Omega Cannon and blasting them in the head feels really damn good!

It can go from tense to downright terrifying if you are caught.

This game is amazing, the visuals are stunning, and Iβm only in the first part of the game and the game play is smooth and really fun!
I think they upgraded a lot compared to the Nintendo Direct reveal

Within my first 5 minutes of playing I thought Dread could easily win Game of the Year. The gameplay is so fluid.

Voters are just bunch of a..holes that only gives their vote to triple a titles. They didn't give Hades enough credit, they won't give Metroid too. (I know Metroid is huge, but still 2d)

Honestly when it comes to the quality of the game and how much they promoted it, they couldn't do much better... This was the make or break game for the 2-D Metroid series. If this fails then we'll probably never see one again.

I have full confidence in the βSwitch Effect.β Thereβs no doubt in my mind that this game is gonna outsell all its predecessors at the very least. Iβm thinking itβll probably be around a 5million seller. If it does better than that, then Nintendoβs really gonna start rethinking their position on the Metroid series just being this small, niche thing!
Currently it seems to be #1 in sales across eShops in different countries. Seems it'll do very well, hopefully.
@@sethfeldpausch4337 Just looked up the numbers that were available. Would have thought Super was the best selling 2D game in the series, but amazingly it was the original at 2.7 million.
I'm actually genuinely surprised at the sales numbers when compared to other Nintendo titles. While I didn't think the series was pulling PokΓ©mon, Mario, or Zelda numbers, I would have assumed that at least three titles would have topped the three million mark considering how popular the series is with speedrunners.
If the early indications are any sign, Dread is well on the way to being the best selling game in the series, and I would be shocked if it didn't hit at least four million sold.
I just finished this game. I have to say the plot, gameplay, and evolution that this title has really blew my mind. For the longest time I felt the series was going to die. To see it achieve a modern form on good hardware and developed by such a capable team, I'm glad to still consider myself a Metroid fan after all these years. I'm so glad this game broke so many sci Fi tropes and stood on its own two feet amongst all these other games on the market. I hope the series continues to grow.
The atmosphere that is felt from being in an EMMI zone is unmatched from any other game I have played in a long time

This game is so amazing. The combat is so smooth, the visuals are amazing, the story is interesting, the EMMI sections are new and creative, and I love the boss fights. So far Im about halfway through and I definitely think that Metroid Dread should win game of the year

Same here! I love this game so much, that I'm already 8 hours in! But I can't continue, cuz no joke I got carpal tunnel after playing this game... but the second I'm able to play video games again I'm gonna finish this game. But this time I'll play with a pro controller instead of handheld mode so hopefully I don't get carpal tunnel again.
This is not only the best Metroid game I feel in the series(having played all of them), but this is also quickly one of my favorite games since Metroid Prime. Easily one of my top games ever so far.

Right? I was concerned the E.M.N.I wouldnβt be very scary considering theyβre confined to certain zones but just that whistling sound they make already gets you on your nerves. Fantastic work by the sound designers

Iβm like 45 minutes into the game, and itβs already the Game of the Year imo. The atmosphere is absolutely perfect, the movement is smooth, gameplay is tense, and itβs just so damn coolβ¦

Mercurysteam and Sakamoto straight up killed it. The way this games story ties the whole series together was incredible, im so happy for Sakamoto finally being able to get the game that was stuck in his head for over a decade out to the world.
Honestly, Metroid deserves to be in the big league of Nintendo games. And they want it that way too, it seems. This game has a huge chance to shine, and hopefully it does. I know Iβm picking this game up soon, and I can already tell itβs gonna be a blast.

Every time I die in a game I always get angrier and angrier, but for some reason each time I die in Metroid Dread I just feel like I have a new chance to plan my actions, such an awesome game!
I just want to say, thank you Mercury steam for bringing us a amazing Metroid game to the switch! I bought the special edition, as well as the amiibos to show support to Nintendo for this franchise. Again I can not thank you enough for bringing back my childhood memories of me playing my original gameboy advance with a copy of Metroid fusion :)

Metroidβs first game on the Switch and itβs 2nd 2.5D platformer looks amazing. These levels, these bosses, the new look for Samus - I can already sense the new Metroid stuff coming up in Smash 6. Metroid Dread is one heck of an adventure.

I will never understand how you made a game so perfect. Combat is smoother than butter, graphics are phenomenal, backgrounds are beautiful, monsters legit look like aliens and not some random "let's throw things together" it's got everything.
They need to buy the studio behind Dread and Samus Returns ... Mercury Steam is amazing and needs to stay with Nintendo!

Play Hollow Knight than if you like Metroid Dread. Itβs a Metroidvania as well and youβll die a ton of times
@@Gintoki_Freecss ufff, thats a gem right there fella. I know Metroid and Catelvenia are the queen and king of the genre but, I hope "Dread" to be even better than Hollow Knight, thats pretty hard though, but far to be impossible if you take in count the people involved in the game development.

After this game released, Metroid Fusion sales on Wii U skyrocketed. I think Metroid is now more mainstream than its ever been. Good stuff.

I don't play Metriod but seeing fans so happy and so many people saying "THIS IS THE BEST!" really makes me want to try the game out for myself.
The controls are perfect and the gameplay is phenomenal.
The only people I see who don't like this game are just ones that are upset about it not holding your hand every 5 seconds. It's challenging, but never punishing. It's fast and fluid, but also makes you stop and think out what you're doing. It lets you learn from your mistakes, and let's you feel like a badass when you succeed. It's very fun

I am absolutely *loving* this game right now. Whenever I stop playing it, I keep thinking about the next time I'm going to play it.
The first lady of Metroidvanias is back to reclaim her throne.
My copy arrived today and I played for about one hour and a half the visuals are breathtaking the cutscenes that gives the first person perspective, which gives us a glimpse on how amazing prime 4 will look and feel like and when emmi is chasing you is thrilling and the urgency to get out and escape is off the roof. Amazing, this game is the, best, samus look badass, just if youre on the fence BUY THIS GAME

Nintendo giving us top tier title after top tier title. I just finished it and it was incredible!
This game has no real flaws. One could argue its soundtrack isnβt great, but I honestly quite like it. It has everything I want from a 2D Metroid game. I think its story is better than Fusionβs. My new favorite 2D Metroid! Easy 10/10.
Soundtrack is really kind of "okay". Otherwise, the whole damn game is a masterpiece. I give 10/10
I don't get the soundtrack complaint from people. Like they expected bumping tunes like Brinstar despite the obvious subtitle "Dread" and the tone that sets for the entire game. The soundtrack sevices the mood of the game. Could you imagine walking into an emmi zone and it just blasting Serris theme from Fusion. Would completely drown out the amazing sound design associated with the emmi and how tense it makes the experience.
The soundtrack for exploration doesn't really stand out, but I would say that the EMMI tracks more than make up for the rest of the soundtrack
It's everything I expected it to be. I'm really enjoying my time with it. Amazing game. Instant classic.

I haven't been seeing much complaining on my end. Just people acknowledging that its hard, which it is. Definitely harder than any previous 2D metroid. That said being hard doesnt make it not fun or rewarding to complete. If hard equaled bad then games like cuphead wouldn't be successful and beloved.
@@ians_parks I donβt know if Dread is harder than Fusion, honestly. The EMMI and bosses will cause many player deaths, but I think the basic enemies in Fusion were a lot more threatening than the ones in Dread, especially the late-game Fusion enemies.
Absolutely worth the wait, and a phenomenal final boss battle.

This is my first time playing Metroid and I love it. I always wanted to play one but never did. I happy that this one put me on the franchise. Happy I got it π€―
This is the best 2d side shooter in the longest time. Not complete stress inducing bull like cuphead or those 2d souls clones. Everything down to boss animations makes it feel like I'm not just dying to learn a pattern but I'm fully aware of the possible range and attacks right from the go. It's brilliant game design to say the least.

Uh what a chad, you've my respects.
The challenge falls between a good balance between unfair at points and a focused thrill at others. I found myself straying as far away from EMMI doors as much as possible and genuinely feeling dread when I had to go through one.
The slide and general fluid gameplay makes it really easy to get cocky about your skill, making you feel powerful, while the EMMI sections do a great job making you feel truly helpless. Beating one gives me such a sense of truly making an area my territory that Dread stands as a masterclass at managing the player's state of mind.
GOTY for me.

Play this game! It has been a long time since Iβve played such an enjoyable game. Absolutely phenomenal in just about every facet of its combat, exploration, EMMI rooms, cutscenes/story, and overall atmosphere and design. I will be replaying this game a lot!

Mercury Steam hit this game out of the park! Hats off to their whole team. Not surprised judging by the incredible job they did on Samus Returns. I loved every second of that game also.
Smooth and fluid are the two non technical Word which describe how amazing the gameplay is. Transitions from one frame to another feel so mesmerizing and the visuals are on point.
Never has a 2d game felt so Snappy and modern all the enemies are fast and aggressive get ready for a Thrill Ride

Im expecting this game to outsell all of the previous entries. It's so good, so fast paced, and so well put together.

Amazing game!!! I am not finished it but if anyone is interested in this please buy it. You will not be disappointed at all. Combat is amazing, the world is so varied, my personal favourite being the Burenia water stage ;the music is also great with remade original tracks from super Metroid and a bunch of new ones. I also thought the Emmi would be a constant threat through out the whole game and thought u couldnβt defeat them but u can! So once u do u are free to explore that area at your own pace. I really like the diversity in gameplay that they offer! I hope that Nintendo sees this has enough popularity to warrant more titles in the Metroid series. Hope u have a wonderful day if u have read this far!
One of the best games I have ever played. Great job Mercury Steam and Nintendo also. Game of the year definately. I would like to see more of this game in the future maybe DLC
