1:25 I can’t believe the flagpole base was actually done right in the beta
LordRotule And so was the giant acorn tree being in the background. I have no idea why they decided to remove it in the final game. It looks so much better with it. My only guess about the flag pole is that they wanted it to be the same size as in Mario 1 and for you to be able to place blocks right next to it, but I still think it looks better in this.
NightWolf If you don’t think about the fact that the background isn’t 3D, they actually nailed the original. It looks much better and more accurate to NSMBU.
LordRotule Yeah, I know. They changed a lot of the backgrounds for no reason and made them look worse. They zoomed out the desert, removed the big plant and changed the lighting of the forest, and removed the trees and mountains from the Snow and Forest Night Backgrounds. In fact, one feature I’ve really wanted is the option to choose between multiple backgrounds. It’s very dull seeing the same backgrounds over and over again. Super Mario World has tons of backgrounds to choose from and New Super Mario Bros U has two per theme I think. It would also be nice if we could choose the New Super Mario Bros Wii backgrounds.
NightWolf I’d really love to use all variations of the different themed backgrounds! In my opinion, the 2nd version of the desert from NSMBU is better. The bright blue sky and the pink from the ice cream cones make up a really good contrast with the dull yellow of the sand. Too bad the one they used is all yellow...
The sky theme could also use some color variations (like desert sky) or even adding the polka dot mountains. I feel like it would add so much depth to the background and would be much more enjoyable to look at.
Personnally I don’t mind the lack of the big leaf in the jungle theme but it is weird indeed that it isn’t there. I also wish that the tileset used in the night version of the theme was the dark blue one seen in a couple levels in NSMBU. I mean, they did a great job with the ice tileset from the nighttime snow theme so why stoping there?
My last complaint is about the castle background in the NSMBU style. Why dis they changed it? It was perfect in SMM1 and was accurate to the original game. Now it has some stupid clouds in the windows... what if one of the castles in my superworld is in the underground theme? It simply doesn’t fit. The orange sky from the previous game was much better as it fitted with pretty much anything.
By the way, I know I only talk about the NSMBU style but it is my favorite and the one I work with the most. Too bad Nintendo doesn’t even bother giving it 3D models...
LordRotule I don’t really have a huge problem with the change to the castle background but it would be nice if we still had the option to use the original and the other castle backgrounds in the New Super Mario Bros series. Same with the water theme. Personally, I think I prefer the new darker version of the water background but like I was saying, I think it would be nice if we still had the option to use the lighter one. By the way, I subbed.

Aramaru 1837 managed to sell extremely well in what can be seen as Nintendo’s poorest years, late into the WiiU’s lifespan (4 million since 2015 on a console that sold like 13 million and released in 2012)
Nah. This didn't look impressive. It looked like a crappy bootleg game. Compared to SMW hacking and Mario fangame level editors on PC, this was just not interesting.

This game was the first time i was really hyped to play, i loved the idea of being able to make my own mario levels, although my first look at the game was a later trailer as I wasn’t keeping up to date with Nintendo at that time.

2014 Nintendo came up with the idea to create a Level Editor making it possible for players to create own Super Mario-style levels... This firstly happened roughly 14 years ago by the community. 4 years ago the first New Super Mario Bros Editor came out... 9 years ago Lunar Magic for SMW.... All free ways to modify the game giving possibility to in fact even modify it so hard you can't even recognize it anymore. To quote Sonic:"You're too slooooooooow!!"
And now they are putting all of those (and new things) ideas into one game. I see nothing wrong with that! I

Changes to be made:
- Improve the framerate of NSMB U mode
- Include a Super Mario Bros 3, Super Mario Land, and Super Mario World mode
- Include ALL the enemies, obstacles, tiles, and collectables of each respective game
- Let player share their levels online
- Have each game mode include their own respective physics
- Replace the spinning enemy death animation with the proper death animation of each mode
- Let the player be able to store hundreds of levels
- Have the player be able to change time limit and level length
I hope Nintendo changes this primitive creating tool into a robust and fully customizable level editor.
I hope Nintendo goes all out with this game.
Its confirmed that there will more graphic styles, options and the ability to share your levels thanks to miiverse.
If they really do go all out with it, which I hope they do, it will be super amazing and totally worth the effort!

That is the smell of my hype, in sweat form.
This may seem like a silly idea to a number of people but I think it has a lot of potential! It's bound to be a great idea for sending levels to your friends and exercising your own creativity...heck, I've wanted a custom Mario game for years, now...I just hope there will be enough options in the panels to keep it interesting for as long as it deserves. I've seen game ideas like this before and their downfall has been not enough options in a world that's supposed to be custom and free. I'm interested to see more updates!

I love the Mario Paint aesthetics they had going for this game when it was first announced. That black Mario Maker logo with the white background reminds of the title screen for Mario Paint.

Tachin1994 You should check out smwcentral.net sometime. There's countless Super Mario World rom hacks with everything you mentioned. The level editor used to make these is called Lunar Magic.
