Splatoon is a third-person shooter video game developed and published by Nintendo for Wii U, and released worldwide in May 2015. The game centers around characters known as Inklings-beings that can transform between humanoid and squid forms, and hide or swim through colored ink sprayed on surfaces using gun or brush-based weaponry. Splatoon features several game modes, including 4-on-4 online multiplayer and a single player campaign.

I remember watching this back when the trailer first came out, I begged my dad to get me the game when it released and he decided to because Id been doing well in school.
I remember playing for the first time, my first ever match was on camp triggerfish and I had so much fun just painting random things aimlessly.
I love splatoon with all my heart
I got a Wii U for Christmas in 2014 because I wanted the newer console to play new games on, I mainly got it for Skylanders Trap Team and Disney Infinity 2.0 releasing that year.
About 1 to 2 weeks before Splatoon came out, I saw the commercials/advertisements on TV, and I thought the game looked interesting. My mom even saw one of the commercials and said "you and your brother might like that game." So I went on KRplus and saw some of the trailers for the game, including this one, and I typically don't buy into hype for new IPs, but I was able to see that Splatoon had the potential to be something really special. There was a testfire before launch so that gave me the opportunity to try out the game, and I was having a great time and I was officially on the Splatoon hype train. My mom bought the game for me from Walmart during launch week, I started to main the Krak-On Splat Roller, and the rest is history as they say.
I got a Switch in October 2017, making it the fastest I ever bought a new console, and it's also the first console I spent my own money on, and I bought Splatoon 2 as part of my first lineup of games for the console. Then, on to Splatoon 3, I was skeptical about it at first tbh. I felt like they should've waited until the next console to come out before they make Splatoon 3, but as time progressed, I warmed up to the idea of Splatoon 3 happening sooner than later. Once they showed the Salmon Run footage, I was officially on the hype train, and Splatoon 3 is one of the only games I ever pre-ordered. The game came out at a perfect time, where I could use a new game to play, and it also came out right before my 20th birthday, so it's like Splatoon 3 was the finale of my transition from teenage-hood to adult-hood.
I'm here right now because I'm making a playlist of nostalgic stuff from my childhood. I'll probably be back to watch this again whenever the Final Splatfest for Splatoon 3 happens, to relive the journey of what I am now considering to be the greatest game trilogy of all time.

I don’t remember much from when I started the second game. But I do clearly remember playing with a Japanese dude named snowman on the conveyer belt whatever map. That dude is still on my friends list for whatever reason. Haven’t been able to sneak into their games because of time zones but it’s nice seeing a little Afro man hologram.

Now that Splatoon 3 is coming, this makes me even more nostalgic. We even have the Inkzooka back now! I remember the days when Miiverse was still a thing and I can even faintly remember years ago of when I was just getting into my first Splatoon match. I can't even believe that 2015 was 6 years ago.

I might be wrong here, but I remember the best reactions for this announcement at the time being among the lines of "OK, that's interesting." A lot of people didn't think much of this, I even remember some thinking it looked like an eShop game. I got pretty excited after they showed more of it, but even then, I didn't think it would go far. It was a Wii U game with a pretty out there concept, odds were stacked against it being successful. And here we are now, it's one of Nintendo's biggest franchises. You love to see it.
Same actually, I remember watching this E3 with some friends and we all were ''Hey, it looks fun and the concept is a pretty original spin on a third person shooter'', but nothing more than that. We were not super hyped or anything else. Cue a year later and I bought a Wii U just for Splatoon after trying their copy out.
Aged Like Milk brought me here for that very reason. And yeah, I remember all of those posts on here and other places.
I think it was when the story mode was revealed combined with the testfire that hype began to pick up
I'm probably one of the few people who, from the first trailer, felt this was going to be big. Same thing when the first trailer for Spider-Man Into the Spider-Verse came out - most people liked it but didn't think much of it, and there I was losing my mind having this gut feeling that it would change the industry (and it did).
I don't like being the one annoying "I told you so" person... but I'd be lying if I didn't say my intuition about these things is rarely wrong.

I remember before I got the Wii U how fascinated I was with this game. This (and Wind Waker HD) were the main reasons of why I wanted a Wii U so badly. And now that it's come this far, it's amazing to see what Splatoon was like back in the day and to see the hype that was built around it.

I just started getting into Splatoon 2, and I'm in love with it! Can't wait for the third game!!! :)
As of me writing this comment, Splatoon 1’s servers will be shutting down in just a few days. I cannot begin to describe how much this game series has impacted my life. I love this game with all my heart and it’s sad to see it go. I’ve met countless of people and made many friends throughout this series. From the moment I saw this trailer when I was 10 years old I knew it was something special. Although my time with the first game was short, it has cemented my love for the series as a whole. I got a Switch primarily for Splatoon 2. I bought Smash Ultimate just because Inkling was going to be a character. I even played the whole 12 hours of the Splatoon 3 Splatfest premiere and got Splatoon 3 the second it was released in my state. I’m trying really hard not to cry while typing this and it may be strange to some but this game is a big part of my life. Goodbye Splatoon 1, you’ll be gone but never forgotten ❤.

This honestly looks like one of the best games coming out of E3 so far. Colorful, frantic, multiplayer action... to me, this is all the things that make gaming fun, wrapped up into one package that also has squids.

matt4045 Yeah I know, but when almost all of the biggest games on the console meet the standard, no one should complain about the graphics since they are literally just incorrect in what they say. Those PC fanboys ranting on about how "ugh, consoles suck! They can't even run 1080p, 60 fps! PC MASTER RACE PEASANTS!" It is quite annoying considering they are completely false.

Haven’t played Splatoon 1, but I remember my first match, I was up until dawn, because I loved how the game was so simple yet so complex. Splatoon is probably the best game I’ve played before.
To think when I first saw this I thought "This looks cool, I might buy it." I love this game so much.

I played this game when I was 8. Now I’m 16 turning 17 in this year and this breaks my heart that seeing this game already shutdown. This game was my childhood, I got this game when it was my birthday on 2015 and played it with my sister cuz she was obsessed with this game. I remember playing the Gobal Testfire when it was out. Believe me, you wouldn't. Upon closer inspection, these maps were barely balanced. Just look how closed off beta Arowana Mall was.

Me now: i have been fundamentally changed as a person
3 years ago, Splatoon 3 was announced.
I remember watching along to ZackScott since 2015, saving every penny I could scrap up for a used Wii-U and game disk. I eventually got it, and played religiously, not a care in the world. I bought plushies, amiibos, all things I still have now.
To this day, playing the third game, I still love Splatoon. I even bought a Wii-U again, just to experience online gameplay one last time before it sits down next month, April 2024.
Splatoon is one of the lists of things I can say shaped my childhood. I’ll miss Splatoon 1 gameplay and it’s chaotic nature.

Looking back at splatoon 1, this game was honestly a massive gamble, and the fact that we got 2 more games (so far) is insane.
truth be told, i had absolutely NO idea this game existed until my mom bought it for me right after my fifth birthday. i know i was young but i was so hooked to this game, and to think that we're already on our third game is insane. i love splatoon so much :)

This was legitimately one of the first games I was ever hyped about. I can't believe the third one is already coming out. It feels like yesterday I would rewatch these Splatoon trailers over and over again.

The thing with this game, is that there is heavy focus on needing to use the gamepad for normal play. Maybe Nintendo is finally keeping to their promise of being able to use 2 gamepads per console, so to include local co-op for games such as this..?
Also, I'm not saying that local co-op isn't likely, just keeping in mind what the developers have said about the game.
I don't even play shooter games, but this one looks really cool and fun. Really creative mechanics.
You know what's the best part of having a new Nintendo IP? , imagining all of the crazy combos that the characters in it could have in a future Smash Bros. Just imagine one of those Inklings using those paint powers and turning into a squid. So awesome.

Coming back here after the servers were shut down. I never played the first game, but without it I'd never have the second, and likewise the third. This franchise has been a large part of my life, and I'm so glad the creative minds of this fantastic AAA studio came up with it. Thank you Splatoon 1, you meant quite a lot to me.

Gotta love all these people arguing about which games are more innovative, graphically superior, more features, etc. Here's an opinion for ya: Shut up and play your games, whether you like Call of Duty or Splatoon... Mario Kart or Forza. PS4, Xbox One, PC, Wii U, whatever. Personally, I prefer the games coming out on the Wii U, because they look fun, in my opinion, but there is no right or wrong opinion. Just enjoy your games! :)

Wow, almost everything in this trailer was changed. Just about every map showcased here never made it in (except for the first map) or was changed in some way. Really interesting.
Remember they played in the trailer the ALPHA so they change stuff in the full game
Close analysis shows that most of the maps resembled a fusion of 2 or more of the final maps, there appears to be a fusion of SaltSpray rig with the top half being the same but with the lower half having more curves like in Arowana mall. And there appears to be a Walleye Warehouse prototype but with lifts like the one found in SaltSpray rig.
