I’ve always really loved how much of a love letter to fans this intro animation is, I love returning to this trailer for fun to watch it again after I first saw it years ago right before the launch of Sonic Mania. I’ve always been a very casual Sonic fan since childhood since I’ve always been a hardcore Mario fan ever since I was a child, but I did always love watching Sonic X on cable Saturday mornings and I loved playing Sonic Rush on my DS when I was a little.

You can really feel the love emanating from this. Music, animation, design. Everything is flawlessly presented. I'm not even big into the Sonic games but this was so good I got chills. In a better timeline these guys would have the rights to the movie

I've had Sonic Mania Plus since 2018 or 2019... yet this is the first time I watched the trailer. Oh boy, I can only imagine the insane amount of hype this game got! Can someone who experienced to months leading up to release ofter this trailer try to describe the sensation?

i grew up loving sonic and nothing had really done it for me like the earlier games had. there was a charm that it was missing in recent games. seeing sonic mania made me feel like i was a kid again and playing through the original 2D games. it honestly filled me with such joy and made me start loving sonic again. it's one of the games most dear to me

Sonic Mania started as a fan game called Sonic Discovery...they showed Studiopolis Act 1 to Sega and Sega asked them to work on it officially
It started as pitch to submit to Sega. If Sega didn't accept, they weren't going to keep working on it. There's nothing "Fan made" about this.

Wanna know my favorite part of this trailer...its this 1:27. i dunno, its just something about this part that just reminds me so much of the original personalities of sonic and his other 2 buds, the smug look on sonics face is classy and makes it clear that he's very confident in himself, I also like how knuckles isn't portrayed as a complete and sensless dummy and meets sonics grin with a confident smile of his own, and as for tails, well he looks really happy just being there, helping to save the world with his best freinds and seems as cheerful as always. This animation certainly does convey alot of emotions, but above all of them I think we can all agree that nostalgia is the strongest of them all : )

I will never forget the day when Sonic Mania was first announced.
Rewatching this, it’s actually quite clever, the elevator instead of showing only numbers, shows the initials of each game, 1,2,3,K, and M. And this game showed there was still a market for the classic games. Without it, we wouldn’t have gotten both Superstars and Origins

Sonic CD is the second game canonically. Then it’s SEGASonic The Hedgehog, and then Sonic 2.

If your saying that sonic cd came before SEGAsonic well I say no, and also sonic 2 was released before sonic CD making it sonic 1, sonic 2, SEGAsonic, sonic CD, sonic 3, sonic 3 and knuckles and goes on.
As for timeline spectrum sonic CD has no official timeline but here’s the other problem with SEGAsonic, sure it stars ray and mighty but where are any related level in the sonic mania game?
Smg7 Luigi I said Canonically. It’s a well-known fact that Sonic met Mighty and Ray before Tails. The same goes for Amy and Metal Sonic. If CD doesn’t have a place in the timeline, then where is Tails? Or Mighty? Or Ray? It’s the first game set after Sonic 1.
