It feels so weird that Middle Ages runs on a random encounters mechanic unlike the other chapters.
Probably since it’s a “traditional” RPG
makes sense once you realize takashi tokita was lead designer of FF4 and this whole chapter is basically a deconstruction of that
this is agrugably the most important chapter in the game

I was spoiled about this chapter and the finale before playing the game
honestly, playing through the other chapters and experiencing them for myself were a blast, especially when I played it with my friend
do yourselves a favor and don’t look any deeper into this part of the game
I didn't and I'm here just checking some stuff having failed already the final battle ... But DAMN was good not knowing until it hit me

Played the chapter earlier this week at last. I had seen some out of context spoilers before getting the game late last year, so I had assumed Odio killed the Princess and took Oersted as his vessel. What I got was something I did not expect at all.

The fact that we are getting this so soon is unbelievable. I have been waiting for this for a long, long time and it still feels slightly unreal that it’s coming out next month.
Between this and getting Moon last year I'm hoping we keep getting all kinds of formerly JP exclusive games.

Honestly, I wish they didn't make a trailer for this one, it should've been kept a secret.
Terrible idea to show the Middle Ages chapter before release. The grace was that the players did not know about this chapter until they had already completed the first 7. This enters the spoiler zone.
Quite late for that since this was uploaded in the same day as Wild West, Edo Japan, and Near Future's trailer in SquEnix Japan & Asia channel, but yea.
I understand but it shows enough, seeming like the average jrpg plot, without spoiling the real twists...
I mean, at the very least they don't end up showing the plot twist. That honor goes to the comment section.

What a nice young man, surely he defeats the Dark Lord and goes on to live a life full of happiness and fulfillment after defeating the villain with the power of his friends at his side.
of course, he gets the girl and gets accepted into royality for saving Alicia/Alethia by her dad!
Also Alethia is a perfect maiden that didn't basically married for being told to, abandoned her real love and said love being the first domino into [redacted]

Play this chapter when I was 13 back in 1994. He is the hero did everything right.
this only chapter make this game one of the best jrpg ever was, the execution and the way of descontruction to jrpg cliches and tropes is damn good
if you like jrpg and you have played a lot of them, this chapter gonna be a big blast
I agree, but...
I think I got so used to play this kind of "deconstructed" jrpgs thanks to Megami Tensei games or this one (Definitely these are the ones I enjoy the most) that everytime I play a jrpg with a too sweet story, when you're a super triumphant hero at the end it feels a li'l out of the place for me lol I still enjoy them but not having a "dark twist" is something weird now.
Live A Live btw turned into one of my favorite jrpgs ever and I knew about it just recently thanks to this remake.
Boy I sure do hope nothing bad happens in this chapter!

Can hardly wait to play this again. Seeing Streibough and Hasshe get properly translated is a bit unusual, but Uranus is still here to bellow like a champion.
Reminder: the Hero must always have a true friend to their side or something that reminds them about their humanity...

Gotta say, I'm a little disappointed they didn't use the names from the translation, but these do sound more medievally.
アリシア is literally "Arishia" which translate closest to Alicia. But yeah... ALETHEA
The main character shown here kind of looks like Isaac from the Golden Sun games.
The design of oersted is a reference to the warrior class in the first ff like the main character of the first seiken densetsu
Basically it's just the stereotypical jrpg hero design. Made on purpose in this game for the point of the game as a whole.

This was a well written story. I got spoiled for trying to look up the endings since I like to avoid bad endings. Still, I enjoyed it, as it still felt impactful when experiencing it first hand.
My expectations for this chapter are high, if they don't get "that part" done correctly I will be very disappointed.
Sounds like the VAs will at least put their heart into it.
