I think a lot of it comes from the visuals. For me personally, I don't think the new big line flash art style of the new one looks very good, and the screen is zoomed in far closer than the original. Super Meat Boy had a real distinct style that had really cool uses of lighting on some stages, this one just looks rather flat and uninspired. I was a huge fan of the original, which inspired me to pick up drawing and game development. Although I'm sure this one is mechanically sound, something just seems off about it. I think many people are upset because of the difference in developers this time around. Super Meat Boy gained a huge following not just because of the gameplay, but because of the developers who were discovered through Indie Game The Movie. This time around we don't have Edmund since he left Team Meat, and they no longer work with the original composer, Danny Baranowsky who has some legendary tracks, and for me perfectly suited edmunds art, and the style of Super Meat Boy.

@@viledestroyerx8441 Hollow Knight is a metroidvainia with 1 (2 if you do the optional Path of Pain) difficult platforming section. It is more combat focused.

How far we've come from the first Super Meat Boy exceeding the WiiWare file size limit.
This game is a walk in the park... if that park was filled with spikes, saw blades, laser beams, and meat.

Try the first it's ridiculously fun. But be ready to die all the time..like 40 times in a 14 second long level haha
First one is a masterpiece. Not only platforming, but the soundtrack. So amazing!
Play the original first. You will get a way better understanding of the Meat Boy world.
