You gotta admit, even for an NES game for the 1990s, they really did as much as they could for the dialogue and sprites considering how small and limited they have to be. The battle animations are actually pretty good for an early console. Yeah it’s not as convenient or easy as the later games (aside from the notorious FE: Thracia 776 game and it’s aforementioned difficulty) or as fast as they are now, but it’s got an old charm to it in my opinion. Feel free to disagree or criticize me.

It's an excellent looking game. I tend to dislike most 8bit games and I was playing them when they were current lol. Just something about that look I don't like. I'm fine with 16 bit though generally!

Thracia is easy in my opinion, once you promote Asvel you pretty much win the game.
@@maxyaju4293 definitely not blind. You can still get screwed from warp trap tiles, enemy staff use, poison+hell, not having door keys in the final chapter, etc.

I love how at the start of this video they try doing a “going back in time thing” by showing the entries in the series until the beginning, yet they skip like 60% of them.
Yet they showed Thracia, probably the most obscure FE game... Curious
I want to play them all but haven't been able. Played 3 Houses, Awakening, Fates Birthright and Conquest, Echoes and now I'm playing through Shadow Dragon. Echoes is my favorite overall so far but I really liked 3 houses and Awakening too. I liked Fates gameplay and map layouts but the story is straight dogshit.
Cause like half of them are still Japan exclusive

Imagine if Nintendo never gave players all the best Pokemon for nothing in high-level wild encounters. Those monsters might actually be worth something to people then.
Took me 15 years to get a Steelix. Guess what I find hundreds of in the wild now? Being a Pokemon fan was a big waste of 20 years. They had to ruin it at the same time they finally started offering Pokemon storage. I can now store the Steelix it took me 15 years to get by trade evolution.. and the 100 Steelix I found in the wild. Cool, so these monsters are trash and mean nothing now. I'll just save myself the time it takes to play the games and just collect the legendary shines with perfect stats that the company gives away. Be the best and don't step a foot in the wild. That's what being a Pokemon Trainer was all about in the 90's. Being handed everything, not having to do any work, and not having any difficult challenges on the way to becoming the master. Imagine Pokemon was real and we could all ride on the newest legendary Gundam robot-looking monster after downloading it from the internet. Great way to ensure the longevity of your product.. by devaluing it to the point where once rare and hard-to-get Pokemon are worth nothing and bested by free ones. Can't believe the company had such poor decision-making skills and now it's too late to revert the effects. I was all excited to keep playing the gameboy originals on 3DS and transferring my Pokemon to the current gen but what's a level 36 Charizard worth when you can hatch a Charmander, put it on the last slot, and beat two level 70 Pokemon, and have a level 38 Charizard with better stats. They didn't even throw it all away on a great game. The new monsters are above average but the game design is lacking hard. At least throw the franchise away on some cool crazy ultimate anniversary game or something. Not Soccermon: Easy Edition.

I am proud to say that I have every Fire Emblem game that was localized, as well as original Japanese copies of Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light, Mystery of the Emblem, and Genealogy of the Holy War

@@ravenwraith1017 it's redundant? Sure. But it's extra money for basically no effort on them, once you translate FE3 it makes sense to just backport the translation to FE1, translate the 10-20 extra lines cut from that and release it earlier to get both FE1 cash and FE3 cash.

I would say that Shadow Dragon is the worst of the modern FE games. I know its a remake of an old famciom game, but they didn't do enough for the remake on a presentation standpoint (though I will give some credit to the localizers for putting in some actual effort with the line translations). Not to mention having some bland and ugly character designs (which also unfortunately carried over to New Mystery, though at least some characters were thankfully redrawn). While there are upsides here and there to the gameplay; like the game introducing the ability to skip enemy turn animations and replacing all the dedicated promotion items with master seals, however, there were some bizarre decisions such as how gaiden chapter are unlocked, the infamous dodge formula that was unfortunately carried over to New Mystery of the Emblem, and completely removing support conversations. While this game was the first to feature reclassing, it's still not the best implementation of it and whether or not they should have included skills is up for debate; especially with Shadows of Valentia having weapon skills.
@@tidepoolclipper8657 In general, I think that the period after Path of Radiance and before Shadows of Valentia was the "Dark Age of Fire Emblem". Shadow Dragon DS, Radiant Dawn, New Mystery, Awakening, and Fates were all garbage games and the worst that the series has to offer. It's good that we're back on track now with SoV and Three Houses, but it's like all of their talented developers just quit after PoR or something. I totally agree about your points, though. Honestly, I even think that reclassing sucks, TH is the only game that's managed to make it work well. The problem is that part of the identity of a FE character is their class, and being able to completely change that ruins the RPG aspect of the game where every character is unique and instead tries to turn it into a generic strategy game where you just pick all of the classes, like Xcom or the Wars series.

Smash fans sleep on so many good games. I always credit smash for introducing me to new games I never heard of. The game hits different when you're actually familiar with all the characters on the roster lol.
This is the franchise that allowed others such as Disgaea and FF Tactics to thrive. Thank you Nintendo. Give us more of them lol

I remember being 5 years old seeing Marth and Roy in smash and being mystified by them. When I was older I played awakening, fates, echoes, and then three houses and I knew I loved these games

Sadly, wing spear does not exist in this game. Luckily, Caeda can use the silver lance at base, and her promotion is super broken.

@@Emiturbina well, I wouldn't call caeda broken in fe1. She's fantastic early on with the silver lance but her terrible strength really hurts in the midgame, and her promotion is really late. Her flight utility is, of course, great at all points though.
Yeah, it truly is a bummer, that’s why I prefer to play shadow dragon on the ds. But yeah, silver lance and flier movement make Caeda pretty useful
Marth is broken in fe1, what chu talking about? Swords are the best weapon, good bases, high growths, has 3 personal weapons, one of which makes him invincible to non dragon enemies

I played an English fan translation and the ds remake and now I’m playing it again on switch.
