I spent 2 months in the hospital for an infection, and I was in the surgical/oncology ward for recovery. Over those two months, I had about 18 'roommates,' one of them a 19-year-old girl who had stage 4 inoperable colon cancer. Basically, they opened her up, realized how far along it was, and realized there was nothing they could do. I lay on my bed on my side of the room while I listened to her family yell, scream, and beg the doctor to do something. Then I heard her speak:
"So, I'm just waiting until I die?"
It's been nearly four years...and that statement haunts me to this day. F*CK CANCER!

When I was a nurse aid, the hardest part of the job wasn’t dealing with death or grieving families, but the realization that as nice and compassionate and giving as you can be as hospital staff, the pharmaceutical companies we rely on for medicine have fucked us over. Similarly to cancer treatment, dementia and Alzheimer’s treatment hasn’t moved an inch in the last 20 years but every year makes a new “trial” pill that rakes in billions. Makes us feel like we’re good intentioned, but we’re playing for the wrong team.

7 1/2 yr lung cancer survivor here. Dude, I cried. When I was diagnosed--you would be surprised how many of my "friends" disappeared--just when I needed friends most! NEVER EVER abandon us--we need you! My Daddy died of the same lung cancer I was diagnosed with. I am also a nurse. The more my Daddy needed me to be a nurse, the more the little girl in me came out because I kew my Daddy was dying and I couldn't help. I consider myself a chemotherapy survivor...first treatment almost killed me--don't remember the 1st 3 days in the hospital. Never listen to the time table they give you. They gave me 5 yrs, I beat those odds so far. The chemo and other treatments are outrageous. My hubby and I had to file for bankruptcy--now, it's all I can do to keep my home and get food! The part when mom climbs in bed with the daughter killed me. When my Daddy was dying, I curled up behind him and held him til he breathed his last breath,

That song really hit home hard cause I had a welms tumor, which is a form of kidney cancer. The nurse told my grandmother that the tumor was the size of a mans fist. They had to remove my left kidney at 2 months old. I'm a 31 year survivor of cancer.

Cancer is actually rare in other countries like Cambodia, it’s most common here in the states, it pretty much boils down diet. I lost my grandpa from Cancer beginning of 2020, this song hit differently for me. Thank you shaq for keeping it real 💯

Man, my uncle was expected to die because of birth defects and cancers, before reaching a year old. He surpassed those expectations. When a teenager, he became parilised on his right side, and was expected to die the next year, but he didnt. The doctors tried to predict every couple of years when he would pass, because of how rare it was for someone to have such conditions, but when he got to around 30, they stopped guessing.
Today he is 63, alive, healthy, and moving around.
He may need a wheelchair, but hes living a happy life, when the doctors guessed he would die at birth.
His name is Roger.

My Grandmother died back in 2009, still think about her all the time, Mildred! Miss her so much.. bone cancer and lived for about 4 years and passed in hospice.. that destroyed my whole family and my parents stopped taking with my aunt and my uncles 😞... fuck cancer.... This one really hit home with me..I lost my mom 25 years ago to cancer. We had to watch her take chemo and radiation at the same time. We watched her decline everyday, would listen to her talking to her deceased relatives and two days before she passed away, we were all in her room with her and she looked in a corner and asked if we could see the angels. The whole room turned a bright white color for a good minute or two then it went back to the normal lighting. That was a super hard thing to digest because we knew that at any time she was doing to leave us. I'm keeping you, Jojo , her dad and y'alls family in my prayers. He will beat this 🙏🏼🙏🏼

I was Stage 4 when they found my Cancer. It was already in the lymphatic system and spreading. I threw everything they had at it. Chemo and Radiation together..the real world hell on Earth. It was the most brutal experience in my life. But I survived it all. It took more than I had to give. Honestly. I'm still paying for it almost 3 years out.

I lost my father in 2000 to mesothelioma (cancer from asbestos) 5 months before my daughter was born, last year my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer which she beat but unfortunately it's hereditary, and I just lost my half sister on April 1st of this year to pancreatic cancer. I was diagnosed with Leukemia 6 months ago. I think the hardest part was watching my family and especially my wife and to see the pain they were going through. Since it was during covid there were no visitors allowed for the 3 months i was in the hospital. My mom and dad were a mess and seeing the pain it caused them was very difficult to watch. I can say now i am in remission and have been declared cancer free after 4 rounds of chemo. Anyone out there struggling keep your head up and stay positive because you may be the difference in that persons life or your own

Emotional song. My daughter is a cancer survivor. She had a bone Marrow transplant at 9 and she is 25 now. Watching her go through radiation and chemo, about killed her. But she is STRONG soul. I'm still no good after all these years especially when a song like this comes out. Tom is real.

My grandma had cancer 6 or 7 years ago she beat it and she had to go back to the hospital at like the start of the mouth because she had symptoms that it was coming back but luckily it wasn’t coming back.

The hard part is to realize that a lot of cancer surgeries can be in the hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars per surgery, then you have to look at all the different types of cancer. It's like trying to fight a thousand different viruses at once which is what cost so much money. You would think that they have a cure and you would be right for many types of cancer but wrong for even more, my son is an oncologist and is always looking at the new treatments and trials but the reality is is there's over two thousand types of cancer and we don't have a cure for all of them

My grandfather Henry D Pangle served honorably in the Air Force, first military funeral I’ve ever attended and was honored to be a Paul bearer. He lost the fight to cancer earlier this month but I have faith he is in a better place now. I also have believed from a young age that there is a cure. You are the absolute goat Tom your music has motivated and inspired me to have a relationship with god and to stay sober and to change my entire career path.
