Because of the electoral college, no less than 3 million votes are invalidated just to give power to less populated states. The electoral college is a great idea in a perfect world, but when it exists alongside things like gerrymandering, where district lines are drawn around red or blue household & neighborhood groupings, any attempts to balance power are superficially dismantled ex post facto. This kind of rigging subverts the will and power of our American citizens, rendering legitimate votes invalid and is the very reason our democracy is being destroyed.
